After some bad experiences with 2018 Fourrier, this was a lot nicer. Showing typical Gevrey typicity with dark cherry, spice, some forest floor, a bit rustic. Lovely wine, not sure it has made up for the past experiences though.

Classic Gevrey nose. Pallet showed much darker fruit than the 17 I had a few months back. Finish was savory and a bit clipped by the structure. This wine is dark and brooding, the savory structure is hiding a lot of what this wine has to give. Still a lovely wine, but needs a few more years. Great pairing with pepperoni pizza!🍕

Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 2016. Medium pluss konsentrasjon. Litt kantete finish. God lengde med bestemte tanniner. Dette er solid, men må lagres. 91p

Similar impressions to those noted in my TN from 2022. Clean, dark fruited and fresh. Classic for this cuvée - my favourite Burgundian Villages cuvée. In its prime now.

Decanted two hours. Bright, ruby in colour. Some reduction. Sharp nose and body red berries -- rasberries and red currants. Plenty of acidity and very well structured wine but a bit short and lacking a bit of soul.

Drunk over two evening, during which it barely changed. Bright ruby, clearing at the rim with only the faintest touch of garnet. A typical, expressive Fourrier Gevrey bouquet, although more black than red cherry. Also, dark soil, chalky minerals, cocoa powder, sous bois and a little pine needle. In the mouth, a dense and full entry, although a more mid weight flow across the palate. Vibrant acidity. Suave, quite fine-grained tannins, somewhat strict, with some bite on the finish. Moderate alcohol (13% ABV). Dark fruited, earth, herbs and wet limestone. Darker fruited, less lifted than the typical Fourrier Gevrey, very 2016. Acceptable length. More characterful and preferred over the recent 2019 Dujac Morey Villages. Drink from now until say 2032+. 92+.

DAY1 Served with the Vinloq System 👃Lovely perfumed fruit. High toned. Sweet with a candied edge. Cherry liquer and mint 👅More restrained than the nose. Fruit is also darker. Somewhat closed and not giving up too much. Med acidity. Tannins have astringency
Remaining wine Slow Decanted in my refrigerator
DAY11 👃Very floral and sweet red fruits. Blood orange, medicinal herbs and mint 👅Floral and sweet, mostly red fruit. Wood/hay and earth. Mild tannins
Slow Decanting helped this improve some on DAY11 but this still needs a few years of bottle ago to reveal itself and improve its precision, which I expect it to do🍷

(ST) This wine impressed me when I first tasted it in 2018, but today it’s a bit disjointed. It became enjoyable with 5-6 hours of aeration. I’d give it a few more years. 90+

Red cherries, medium acid, salty tannic backbone and greenbriar sappy on the finish with a bit of a bite. (Hey, its young). Today its awkward and jangly, but all the parts are here, they just need time to settle and integrate. Give it 3 years. 92+ potential. In the meantime, the 15’ version is great and open for business.

On the nose it reminds of a young California pinot. On the palate it is not. Menthol+cherries. Very lively. Elegant. Will further improve with bottle age. Excellent quality. Impressive for village level.

Quite Fourrier in style with sappy purple fruit and candied violet. Midweight palate with flavors of purple fruit and earth. Good, better in a few years.

Wines Watching the White Sox Beat the Cubs (Riverwoods, IL): Tasted double blind. Ripe and lush black fruit with slightly sweet character and slightly sweeter styled spice throughout, but also ending with a good burst of structure. I was torn as to whether this was a great New World Pinot Noir vs Burgundy, but I think the wine's youthful exuberance make it tough this young. Very good potential.

Opened 24 hours in advance and double decanted shortly before drinking. Less reduction than expected even on initial opening. Good purity of fruit - cherry and flecks of other red fruit - with earthy hints. Enjoyable now and suggests Fourrier did well in 2016. Maybe hard to find excitement in the wine though ***1/2

Deep ruby to full cherry at the core. Glossy, vibrant, dark-fruited. Almost velvety in texture cf the 17’s silk. Impressive as ever at village level. There’s an undercurrent of broodingness here that suggests it really needs a few years to meld. ****. The remains of the bottle held well overnight in the fridge, the wine melding a little, but perhaps losing a slight frisson of energy.

Drank along side the 15 and liked this better. The group was mixed. I guess maybe right now the 15 is more giving and open, rounder and riper. I think over time this 16 will be better. I got a very nice stemmy, whole cluster note in spite of the berries being completely de-stemmed. Was reminiscent of Roumier or Dujac. Nice red fruit, red candy, polished and high toned. Great acid backbone. A really really good 16 esp for $75. Upside to the score.

Okay but the 2015 Fourrier is a lot nicer. Lovely village wine but comments have to take into account price point. Maybe needs a bit of time but the Albert Bichot Premier Cru drunk alongside was much better and the same price...

Light ruby red robe with translucent watery rim. Aromatics of deep red cherries, floral and ginger spices. Slightly disjointed but offers medium bodied flavors of red cherry fruits, earth, stony minerals and spices. Fades towards the finish. Approachable but doubtful if it could use some more time in the cellar for better integration.

Fourrier shake done. Poured through Vinturi aerator into decanter and then poured back into bottle. Drank at home, in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral potpourri, light earth, sweet spice, herbal stems, red cherries, ripe strawberry. Developing. On the palate, dry, juicy high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, ripe strawberry, red licorice spice, herbal stems, metallic iron earth minerality. Medium finish. Good quality. Easy village Burg with a real nice nose. Other the few bits of 'Fourrier'ness, it doesn't go much further beyond that. Fades and gets thin towards the finish. Drink over the next 4 years or it's fine now with aeration. No longer worth the asking price.

Candid sour raspberry, perfumed laundry powder and unripe currant on low temperature, turning to wild strawberries, gooseberries, bergamot and a mix of spices and exotic herbs on higher temperature. Savory, juicy palate with primary red fruit flavors of good concentration.

Strawberry, rasberry, some cofee, slight oriental spice and floral notes. Medium body, red berry fruits, delicate minerals, and fine tannins. A little lean fruit on palate and not impressive acidity. Classic fourrier Gevrey Chambertin VV and a good village level burgundy. However, 2016 is not a great vintage for this wine.
