A dull orange colour for this wine of vines over 90 years old of Massal Selection Trebbiano Abruzzese. No oak. All free run juice. There is a Smokey note on the nose as well as lime and lemons. Mineral driven wine with lime, lemongrass, white flowers, bruised apple, and a kind of lemon tang in the middle palate. Very high acid. One could mistake this for at a Minimum a 1er Cru Chablis or even Grand Cru without the oak. This wine is beyond anything else out there from Abruzzo. Wow.

1/6. Wanted to give this a try in its youth in the knowledge that it would likely be early days which it was. On the nose there is peach, flowers and pepper. On the palate there is quite a bit of weight, citrus, a touch of peach, pepper and searing acidity. On the first day the acidity was a bit overwhelming but by the second day that had mellowed slightly giving an indication of what this is going to be like down the road. Fantastic quality but definitely worth leaving this for at least another couple of years before trying again.

Fonte Canale Vertical with Cristiana Tiberio & Levi Dalton: The nose was wonderfully fresh, with crushed stone dust, young peach, smoky florals, and hints of undergrowth, with an underlying richness that is still holding back. On the palate, I found silky textures with an almost-oily feel, with zesty minerals up front, giving way to citrus-infused young peach and spice, as yellow inner floral tones developed. The finish was long, resonating on saturating minerals and spices, with lasting notes of tart, cheek-puckering green apple. This wine simply needs time in the cellar to blossom.

Abbruzzo study (Chicago, IL): Not a huge fan of this version, especially with the far more complete 2015 served alongside. Incredibly tart, with an unripe green tinge. There may be other good elements underneath this, but they seem to be obscured by the slightly astringent acids right now. Time might help smooth out these rough edges, but for now, this feels too taut for me.

Decanted for 90 minutes and just singing. Has a nice herbal complexity with lots of orchard fruit and minerality. Precise, long finish. At peak.

Here we go atruffling... (aka Piedmont... and Veneto); 11/16/2018-11/30/2018 (Alba, Guarene, Modena, Barolo, La Morra, Lake Garda .....): From the wine pairings as Osteria Francescana. Went with the first two courses of the tasting. I'd say it worked just fine. This isn't a wine that jumps out on its own. It's more on the bland side. Played back up just fine though to an eel and then an interesting fish soup of a sort. The second perhaps a slightly better pairing as it brought out a bit more fruit in the wine.
