With beef stew. At opening, acidic, thinnish and astringent. Then it just blossomed. Never got fat or flabby, but put on some heft, meaty notes, fruit notes, mostly black fruit like dark plums, blackberries. This is N. Rhone syrah, where a lot of C-H is modern, riper than tradition dictates, more New World. If Rosso di Montalcino can be baby Brunello, this is baby Hermitage. Wish I bought more.

On the night I drank this, I was drunk enough at the point when I opened it that I don’t even remember if it was white or red. This is why you should put in tasting notes ASAP after drinking, like the next day. But hey, it’s a good producer, so it probably tasted good!
Nez engageant de cerise sûre et d'épices douces. L'attaque est toutefois très acidulée sur la canneberge, ca se poursuit sur cette longueur acide. On en perd du plaisir.

High acidity, medium (+) tannin, ripe rasberry on the nose with honts of chocolate, a touch of stewed rasberry compote.
On the palate, rasberry, touch of meat, a bit of ripe cranberry. Leaves a bit to be desired that might come with age. Some of the other single vineyard wines from ferraton have been phenomenal, so I believe there is potential here.

$20 at The Wine House in SF of real northern rhone syrah from a fine producer from a good vintage. What's not to like?
