This wine needs decant for a long time. Overpriced even after discount from holiday season. Before opening, I tended to think that this might be a balanced drink It turns out that the acidity is overwhelming and the finish is medium and short. That said, the berries and oak flavor with good tannins are still there. This may be a potential wine for longer period of aging and SIGNIFICANT decant time for consumption.

Quite wide and appealing aromas with darker red berries, graphite, very clear tobacco, leather, licorice, pencil tip and really clear summer flower. Medium to full-bodied and quite juicy wine with a good mouthfeel of black currants in the tea in front of semi-ripe blackberries, leather, tobacco and light barrel seasoning. Good finish with nice acidity and tannin structure. Very good wine that can withstand 15-20 years. 93 points

2017 UGC Des Bordeaux, San Francisco, nose of black berry, mint, boysenberry, and slate, on palate, big body, very tasty, lovely, rich, mouth filling fruit, needs 4 years to peak, and a long finish, blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Carmenere.

Union des Grand Cru de Bordeaux: Seattle: This was just great. Smooth, medium length finish, supported by great full fruit. Not overly complex, but so enjoyable.

UGC Bordeaux (Drake Hotel - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Good black fruit with reasonable weight, but not for the level of tannins start-to-finish. Little pleasure now. Will need plenty of time.

Tasted next to 2017 d’Armailhac and Mouton Rothschild. Good depth on the nose - notes of spices, dark fruit, crushed stones, smoke. On the palate good tannic grip, but quite polished, fresh with lots of fruit and a persistent, lingering finish. Very nice. 91-92+

Joanne Bordeaux Trip 2018 (Bordeaux): The nose showed wild red berries, herbs, and perfumed florals. On the palate, I found a soft expression, with gentle red berry fruit, rich yet at the same time fresh and floral. It finished long on wildberry, and herbaceous hints of tannin.

Minerality and salty tannins heighten the natural sweetness of the deep, red fruits. The wine has vitality, gentleness and the structure to age. The finish delivers ripe cassis, blackberry, licorice and even more rock and stone. Certainly this is one of the best vintages for Clerc Milon. An arrangement of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% old vine Carmenere, the wine reached 13.2% alcohol with a pH of 3.64. The harvest took place September 13 to September 29.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London): Sour red berry and currant, cedar, cream, palate same as nose, fresh juicy acid, drying chalky tannins. Not one of the better 2017s I've had.

Amsterdam UGCB Tasting and Winemakers' Dinner (Beurs van Berlage / Eden Hotel): Trade tasting, brief note. Classic Pauillac profile, cassis and a touch of mint, nice concentration, well judged tannic extraction, good persistence.

Tasted after 2017 d’Armailhac. Less expressive, more depth and structure, darker fruit, quite mineral. Good length. 91-92+
