After a five hour decant I get notes of blackberry, blueberry, tobacco and cedar. Tannins are high, but with a fine character. At this young age, it’s drinking well.

Surprisingly approachable, this bright, elegant & ethereal Langoa-Barton (v17, 13% ABV) - smooth-sailing through December darkness w supreme balance & freshness, although lacking a tad of ’character’ for any excess rating. Intense, darkish ruby/purple, darker core. Nose brings scents of ripe cassis, greenish notes, cherries, roasted coffee, barrel. Herby, excellently balanced medium-bodied palate, quite airy yet w fine fruit concentration, ample acidity, brambles & cassis to the point, mineral-driven, grainy & lingering dry close.

Nice classic, drinks quite well now. Nice concentration. Notes of black current, spice, graphite maybe a menthol note. Nice freshness and elegant. Great wine making.

Fruity start of berries and cassis. Later the soft tannines kick in with some vanilla after the bottle was open for some hours, the finish became much longer. Next bottles will be opened after at least 5 years.

The nose shows classy oak and dark fruits. On the palate, it is medium bodied, with tasty fruit (overpowered a bit by the oak). The tannins are smooth, and the finish is fairly quick. I didn't get a chance to decant this, but if you open one now I think it might help to give it a few hours of air. Drink 2027-37.

Medium ruby. Medium intense aromas of tobacco, smoke, graphite, blackberry, chocolate.
Dry, med/med+ acid, medium tannins which were smooth, medium alcohol, medium body, and medium intense flavors of graphite, smoke tobacco, blackberry and slight green bell pepper.
Wine is smooth, classy, proportioned and with good intensity. It's technically correct, and quite a classic representation. But it was a little boring-- it did not stir the emotions.
Very good, I'm sure I drank this early in its life, but I wanted to check in with it.

Good stuff, nice bouquet, dark color, 13%abv, lots of complex flavors, grainy tannins but part of the charm, medium to full body, great fruit, drank with loin lamb chops, eggplant, broccoli, potatoes and hummus, will drink again, 2017 Bordeaux wines have been impressive, will drink again, a great sipping wine as each sip has slight nuances of flavor.

PNP. Deep dark magenta color., dried plum, blueberry, ripe raspberry, floral perfume, leather, and mineral. Smooth, dry palate, with very fine acidity. Low intensity tannins on the longish finish. Improved dramatically over an hour of drinking.
(Decanted a few hours and followed over 24 hrs) I have not had many 2017 Bordeaux at all, as the consensus appeared to be it was not a very good vintage, so I mostly overlooked it, but this was a delightful surprise, very ripe and just about full bodied. Lots of minty cassis and dark berry fruit. Good bit of new oak. Some Christmas spice; reminiscent of Leoville Barton, but less deep and complex. Fairly undeveloped. It was best right after opening and over the first 2 hrs, interestingly. On day two it was a bit less integrated, with the oak showing through a bit much. Hopefully this can integrate further over time; give it another 5-10 years and it could really improve. Haven't had a Langoa in ages, although I always adore Leoville Barton. This label is one to watch, and I'll be sure to grab some of the current vintages ('19/'20) as they seem to be solid QPR for the region. Rating: 92

Fruits forward, a hint of spices, anise, earthy. On the palate, none of the fruits is there, very earthy, high acidity, tannins is noticeable but acidity overwhelms it. Good finish. Good QPR.

Decanted 2.5 hr. Reddish purple, long legs, fruit forward on the nose with raspberries, grapefruit, leather, cherry, (dry soil) earthy. Dry, medium body, quite acidic, strong tannins, throat burn. It could use more time in bottle (structure doesn’t feel integrated) but delicious now.

Charming aromas with perfumed fruit that lies over blackberries, cassis, ripe raspberries, anise, hints of vanilla bean and leather belt. Good full-bodied and quickly quite energetic in the mouthfeel with a blurred perfume that lies over blackberries, raspberries, licorice, leather, hints of graphite, cold coffee, salts and nice spices. Fresh finish with excellent tannins. A very good Langoa. 92 points.

Classic in nature, the fruit here is bright, fresh and crisp. Medium-bodied with a lively, crunch red berry center and finish, this will be better with at least 7-9 years in the cellar.

Somewhat taciturn at first, but a day after this is opened it shows the most beautiful raspberry, redcurrant, red plum, mineral, and cedar personality on the palate. Suave, succulent, and delicious, this shouldn't have trouble sitting comfortably in the 93ish range. I should imagine these could be approached in earnest in about a decade.

In the year and a half since I last tasted the 2017 Langoa, it’s come along beautifully. Today this has a fresh, elegant raspberry nose with a cedary character and beautiful acidity on the palate. I suspect this should drink beautifully in a decade.

2017 UGC Des Bordeaux, San Francisco, nose of black berry, sage, and spring flowers, on palate, medium/big body, lovely, rich, tasty, good acid-needs 3 years to peak drinking, probably merit a better score, and medium finish.

UGC Bordeaux (Drake Hotel - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. A success in this vintage. Enticing aromas show ripe and robust black cherry and plum. Firm but showing a clear path to balance, most notably on its finish. I think this will come together nicely, but am not certain. 87-90 point potential.

Tasted next to 2017 Leoville Barton. Good ripeness of fruit, good acidity and more open and expressive in comparison, but also very tight and grippy. Impressive tannic structure, quite serious, fresh, decent length. 91-92+

Leoville's brother is, as usual, a most attractive wine! Beautiful balance and zip here. As would be expected, a bit lighter bodied than the Leoville and slightly more extrovert, but the classicism and beautiful balance are the same. These wines will sing so beautifully, the Langoa likely in ~12 years and the Leoville likely starting in ~15 years.

Sizzling and zesty with crunchy cassis, sages, cedar and peppery aromas popping up easily, this full-bodied wine is concentrated, fragrant and dripping with olives in an intricate finish. Give this a decade and it will sing. Produced from Produced from a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, reaching 13% alcohol.
