  • Light gold color. Lovely w/ pristine purity & weightless freshness. A laser beam of racy minerality, micro effervescence & refinement. Absolutely no fusil and just the cleanest of fleeting citrus & mineral aromas. Hint of pineapple. Very, enjoyable! 92+ 7% alc This has the stretched extra tall Riesling btl which looks cool but makes it harder to find a standing spot in the frig.

  • Doubt it will ever happen but "someday" I'd like to go back to Germany and do a deeper dive on the Moselle. Especially, everything from Bernkasteler south to the two tributaries Saar & Ruwer. For now, I'll need to settle for enjoying the unique terroir driven experience of drinking wines from the Saar Ruwer. Tonight's btl had that signature pristine purity and weightless freshness I crave from the Ruwer. This btl was a laser beam of racy minerality, micro effervescence and refinement. Absolutely no fusil and just the cleanest of fleeting citrus and mineral aromas. Light green gold color. 7% alc The stretched btls of modern Riesling packaging today is very cool but dam inconvenient to fit in the frig after you pull the cork. That said, you'd be hard pressed to find a more beautifully classic label. If you can't get to the Ruwer you can at least gaze upon the gorgeous label depiction. If, I ever get back to the Moselle I'm going to climb up into the super steep vineyards. Drinking this makes me long to return.

  • Pineapple, Granny Smith apple, hits the palate with a bang then continues to a long smooth finish.

  • Praelum - Homedrunk (Praelum Wine Bistro): Freshly acidic, yet ripe and sweet, with pineapple, lemon zest, limestone, and somewhat grassy. The ripe pineapple pulls into a good long finish

  • Lys strågul. Fremstår som litt mer åpen enn Herrenberg. Grønne epler, hvit fersken og godt modne pærer. Luftig og floral. Litt fenolsk duft (ujevn fruktmodning?). Lett som vann i munn. Relativt beskjeden fruktmodning (men litt rikere enn Herrenberg) og vibrerende syre. Grønne epler, hvit fersken, cantalope. Savner kanskje litt fruktkons, og hvertfall lengde. Herrenberg er nok et knepp vassere i 17.

  • 7% alcohol. Tasted blind among 46 other 2017 Riesling Kabinetts in Kabinett Cup 2017.

Youthful pale green color. Somewhat honeyed and slightly reductive nose with a little bit of sweet tropical fruit and a hint of sponti skunk. The wine is lively, medium-bodied and somewhat closed on the palate with medium-dry to medium-sweet flavors of ripe citrus fruits, a little bit of slatey minerality and a hint of tangy salinity. Overall the wine feels a bit closed and lacking in taste. The acidity feels moderately high. The finish is quite long but also rather linear and one-dimensional with flavors of ripe citrus fruits, some tangy green apples and a hint of saline minerality.

A pleasant and fresh little Kabinett that feels slightly reductive and quite closed at the moment. The wine is probably higher in residual sweetness and acidity than it actually feels like, because they offset each other so very well. However, the wine is so mute and underwhelming now it offers rather little for immediate enjoyment. I'd wait at least a few more years just to get the wine out from this slump. There's lots of underlying potential here, waiting to be realized. The wine scored a total of 10 points from the 12 judges. resulting in 22nd place of 46 wines.

  • [13 18] Tasted after 2017 Herrenberg Kabinett. I seem to almost always have a preference for Abtsberg - for me it tends to produce cooler, more restrained wines (at least in their youth) with darker and smoky minerality, herbal notes. Excellent Kabinett. 92-93+
