Tasting of 4 Zinfandels, from magnum, nose of briar, red and black cherry, blackberry, and boysenberry, same on the palate, at its best or slightly past it, big body, delicious, elegant, I love magnums of Zinfandel, mouth filling fruit, long, long, flavorful finish. My #1 of 4.

Probably always my perennial favorite Zin from Mike's lineup. This was brought to the OL by Ramon and I was eager to try. I still remember how taken I was tasting the 2003 Feeney with Mike on a past trip to Copain CC when it was in tank, preparing to be bottled. One of those imprint wine experiences for me. But getting back to this wine, as opposed to the 2003 moment, I did not care for this 2000. The alcohol IMO has overtaken the fruit. It seemed hot and medicinal, which seemed to override the black raspberry, blueberry and espresso notes. Listed alcohol said 16.0%. One of the very few Carlisles I have not cared for.

Solid wine. Still quite youthful - surprisingly so for a Zin. Ensure this isn't too cold, and give it at least 30 minutes of decanter time. Solid Zin nose - red fruits, some spice, maybe some green pepper. Chewy. Lots of plum and some hints of apple (only other Zin I've had this apple flavor is a Linne Calodo Zin blend), with red fruits really coming through as the wine got some air time.

Yankee's vs. A's Tailgate Part (Oakland): SWEET as candy. This is a huge Zinfandel with its gobs upon gobs of fruit. I looked into the neck of the bottle to see if there were clusters still in the bottle. With its medium body and smooth edge this was a really good wine while breaking from bites of the steak. Yumm..

Reminded me initially of a spicy Dry Creek Zin with spicy dusty peppery Zinberry profile. Brambly and jammy with plenty of acidity to carry it. No obvious excess of alcohol. Tasted two days later this wine’s nose was outrageously good. Pinon and spearmint flavors just jumped out of the glass. Could have sat around smelling this one for hours. The palate is still sweet and jammy, bit sharp in the finish. Nice. The two days of sitting made this wine more distinctive.

A touch hot, but beautiful rich ripe fruit with smoky spicy notes.

This wine is proof that I need to let my Carlisle Zin's have a little more time than I have in the past. Drinking very nicely.

($25) 16% Alcohol. Quickly taking on some strong tea flavors (earl grey?) along with some Asian spice. Dry on the palate. Okay. Not the Gum Tree.
