Good colour and typical nose. The usual dry (soft) tannin character on the palate with gentle vanilla and spice. Excellent fruit (none of the super-dry austerity of old-style Rioja) making it undemanding and an almost ‘easy drinking’ wine. To be honest, it did not have the depth and complexity of some earlier vintages. Not a great Reserva but pretty good value when on special offer. Decent balance and length. Much better given a few hours after opening Good with duck in an orange sauce. A sample tasted next day showed good, juicy, fruit but not much complexity.

Classic rioja dryness on the palate. Rather light and soft and gives a fresh expression. Integrated tannins. Pleasant finish. Great value and can still keep.

PnP, with initial impressions of strawberry twizzler on the nose and palate. Fake fruit/licorice flavors blow off with some time, with emerging notes of black raspberry and smoke taking over. Lean and somewhat displaced to me.

Wasn't sure what the expect from this, almost assuming the worst that it would be very primary and modern, but pleasanltly surprised on how it drank, how true to type it is, and how it held up over the 4 hours or so myself and Mrs. Knurd took to polish off the bottle. Rich and spicy, mostly dark fruits, with hints of earth, leaves, and forest floor. Rougher edge due to the tannins (which supply most of the structure); acdity is enough to keep it from becoming astringent while also adding a nice fade on the long finish. B+ (88) Style & Quality as this is a good, solid Rioja- not quite in the same league as I judge Alberdi, which is my go to value Rioja. In that sense it doesn't quite deliver as much value, however there is definite value to be had (90, A-) and I will definitely look to keep more of this on hand for entertaining. Overall Evaluation: B+ (89).

Strong blackcurrant and bramble nose. The nose also has a mineral element and leathery notes. Pleasant spicy palate but also with a firm acidity that dries the mouth.

Opened 45 minutes, not decanted. Blackcurrant colour. Dusty, spicy, cinnamon and autumn fruits on the nose. Beautifully developed palate, neither young nor aged, just right to deliver richness and fullness, blackcurrant and plum fruit. Long finish. Very good.

50cl bottle PnPd. Fairly primary and fruity. Good fruit concentration but slightly less oak influence making it seem less classical than previous vintages of BdL Reserva I've tried in the past.

Decent everyday wine. Nose showed lots of fruit (red and black) with hints of vanilla and some kind of pepper. The taste though was all oak and vanilla, not much fruit. I enjoyed it as an easy drinker. However not as good on night 2. Drink now or hold a few more years.

50 cl. 88/89. Not as much depth as the 2015. Has aromas of plums, graphite, chocolate, blackberries and cherries. Its juicy medium bodied a bit linear blue, black and red fruits palate has nice chocolatey oak and nice acidity. Ends mediumish, very fresh and not so tannic as the 2015. Delicious. 13.5%. Drink up in 3-5 years.
intense ruby colour; claer with light rim. nose: blueberries plus blackberries, some sweeter notes but balanced; some forrest bed and prunes; intense with some alcohol. taste: balanced with medium acidity; dry; medium tannins volume (fine grains); some tart, fresh fruits (cherries, plums, blueberries and sweet cherries); spices (cloves plus cinnamon); medium length finish. 89+

Spicy along with cherry and pomegranate aromas and lots of influence from oak. Well-poised with keen acidity, savoury red fruit flavours and a succulent finish.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #133; Spain, Rioja Reserva (By WW): In the bouquet still locked, but there are some red berries, cherries and toast. On the palate juicy dark berries, vanilla, good acidity and round tannin. Friendly wine with a future of several years.

Oh dear! Thin. What there is of the fruit has a juicy if dilute quality. Cherry & unripe red plum, apple pip, softly bitter finish. Can't imagine this developing. Been in the glass for nearly an hour. If it improves at any point I'll add a note but if you're reading this I wouldn't wait up.
