Popped and poured. Still youthful and room to improve but very enjoyable as it is. Opened up over a couple of hours, the black fruit intensity blossoming in the glass. Hints of tobacco and earthy tones all framed by still quite grippy tannins suggesting this will hold up for many more years. I'll wait another 3 before opening my last bottle.

Decanted 8 hours and it still exhibited a load of berry fruit. Mostly primary. This needs at least five more years to start drinking. If you like very fruit forward wine then you will like this now. For me, it really needs another ten years. Still, a good wine!

Decanted five hours and the tannins softened but it is still quite youthful. Lovely long finish. This is excellent value and will go on for another ten years at least! Despite most other recent reviews stating this wine is now ready, I think it needs a few more years to really open up. Can definitely be enjoyed now, but lets see what it’s like in 2028!

Dark ruby garnet. Aromas of dark plum, graphite, chocolate, cigar smoke, a touch of oak vanilla. Sweet penetration of fruit on the palate, a deft touch of acid, aromatic tannins beautifully integrated, wonderful progression from front to back moving into a long finish. 13% alcohol. Dense, delicious, juicy, intensely satisfying.

This time (bottle #3), it was a real pleasure. Cork OK and only a little bit soaked. Very few sediment. Lovely nose and more structure and power than in previous bottles #1 and #2. Bottle variation? PQR may be questionable (33€/bottle in 2021-01 in OWC-12) as it is a "second vin" and you may pay x-tra for the label and the 'renom' of a classified producer.

A deep, intense purple colour, it looks a bit younger than I would have expected for a 2008. The nose is dominated by delicious, fresh, juicy ripe fruits of rasberry, blackberry, cassis, and plums. There's a sweet, slightly floral high note, but also some more graphite and saline notes if you search for them, but it's mostly about the primary aromas at this stage. On the palate it's beautifully balanced and silky, with the intense fruits perfectly offset by the acidity and tannins, giving the wine a freshness and structure that's a joy to drink. A medium/long finish with a touch of spice and a gentle tannic grip that indicates its got quite a few years in it still. Tasty and good QPR.

What happens when Somms and ITBers get together (tango sur, chicago IL): Nose: The nose is balanced and refined with raspberries, dark red cherries, licorice, herbs, spice box, cedar, tobacco, and a touch of floral notes. There is good complexity but this does lack just a small bit of depth.
Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with medium acidity and silky, medium tannins. The structure is starting to resolve somewhat with the feel showing polished tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, licorice, spice box, cedar, tobacco, and some floral notes.
Overall: This is lovely and balanced. It is really coming into its own right now as it shows off well balanced tones across the nose and palate.

Good fruit, with cherry, currant, dark fruits, oak and quite a few tannins on the finish. We sampled this with a Coravin pour first. I thought it was a little young (but tasty) but Jen loved it so we opened it. It was delicious with our roast, herbal ((rosemary, sage, thyme, garlic) Australian lamb, which is always a great pairing.
Nevertheless, I do think this will be more complex with 2+ years of bottle age. Glad we have half a case. Great QPR for $28.50 / bottle

El "segundo vino" del Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou. 90% cabernet sauvignon y 10% merlot. Granate oscuro.

This is just delicious. I usually take care not to open wines when they are still young, specially Bordeaux. The drinking window from CT indicates this is too young, but I doubted it, opened the bottle, and it was worth the risk. Like many second wines from average vintages, this wine doesn't need a decade, it just needs some air. Nevertheless, you can hold it for many years if you want to. Right now what you get is an intense bouquet, fruit forward, very round on the palate with soft tannins and a really pleasant finish.

Opaque purple color with a reflective edge. The nose is powerful and attractive with hints of violets, black fruits, mocha, and eucalyptus. This wine is unmistakably full-bodied, muscular, with a dense structure, good acidity, and fleshy texture. Flavors of black and red currants, damp earth, dark chocolate, licorice, espresso, meat, and suede leather form a formidable core that gives a whopping mid palate extending to a long, mentholated finish. This is quite a good show from Château Ducru Beaucaillou - powerful and well-integrated. Drink now with a 15-minute decant to until 2023.

Medium ruby. Expressive nose of dark fruit, tobacco, oak and forest notes. Very good Medoc typicity. On the palate medium bodied with good fruit and acidity balance. The tannins are still a bit young, so decanting is recommended. Drank over two days and really enjoyed this wine. Good fruit, nice structure and great texture on the palate. A nice blend of dark black fruit and some bright red fruit. Already showcases a nice aromatic profile and certainly makes you wonder how much better the Grand Vin could be. First time trying this wine and I was really impressed. I just love the finesse and balance of this wine. Very enjoyable with a long decant.

Bordeaux 2009 and some 08's (at the lower end) (Pat O'Briens): Always one of my favorite second wines. The price has also not soared to the extent of many second labels although it is still pricey. Nice cassis fruit with some pencil lead. Also some sandalwood. On the palate, this is full bodied. Very nice texture. Still very young and in need of age.

I think this bottle was popped and poured. In the bouquet mainly cherries and luxurious oak. On the palate dark fruits and very juicy and also firm tannin. The tannin is not too friendly in this stage. The previous bottle I tasted was much more friendly and inviting.

Ducru Beaucaillou Tasting with Bruno Borie (Lincoln Park Binny's): Different than the '09 nose, little more open and expressive. Espresso chocolate, Cigar box/tobacco and cedar. Round tannins, smooth finish, velvety tannins, medium plus finish on the palate. 89+pts

Tight, needs air and coaxing before the licorice, smoke, plum and herb aromas emerge. Produced from a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, which is a much higher percentage of Cabernet than usual, the wine ends with black cherry and cocoa, along with a minor touch of green in the finish.

Tasting with Stephen Lemaitre of Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou (Hawksworth Restaurant): 90% Cabernet Sauvignon / 10% Merlot. 12 months in barrel. 60% new oak. The aromas are quite forward on the nose, displaying a solid amount of freshly ground coffee beans, black plums, cedar, and a touch of mint. More coffee follows through across the palate, along with red cherries, tar, cedar, tart currants, some spice, as well as some herbal notes. Good concentration on the palate. Tannins are delicate, moderate acidity, with a medium+ finish ending with notes of coffee and cherries. Good.

Luxurious bouquet with smoke, cedar, tobacco and dark fruits like cassis and plum. On the palate the same luxury and also round and elegant. A bit in a style which reminds me of Branaire Ducru. This wine will improve over the next 8+ years.

Dark fruity nose with some soil tones. In the mouth nicely civilized, but concentrated fruit with good freshness. Smooth and with gentle oak treatment. Excellently balanced mid-weight Bordeaux. A very stylish St. Julien with very good terroir impression. An excellent second wine.

Ducru Beaucaillou - An Evening With Bruno Borie (Lincoln Park Binnys Tasting Room): Some blackcurrant and smoke on the nose, as well as an interesting ground coffee streak. Medium bodied with med to med plus finish. Decent.

Good.

Dark garnet. Nose of blackberry, dust, menthol, and vanilla. Medium palate of blackberry, cherry, graphite, minerals, and vanilla. Good length. Nice acidity. Supple tannins. Pretty approachable for its youth.
