I wasn't sure what to expect given some of the other notes and was afraid to open too early so opened right before dinner. Terrific, our first bottle of this and we really liked it. It's rich and powerful but well balanced ... needs the right pairing, went very well with standing rib roast. Drank over 2 hours and didn't enjoy it any less at the end.

Appearance: Medium+ ruby with garnet hues Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity aromas of black cherry, blackberry, dried fig, leather, tobacco, baking spices, and dried herbs. Palate: Dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol, full body, medium+ tannins. Flavors of black cherry, blackberry, fig, leather, tobacco, clove, cinnamon, and thyme. A long, complex finish. Quality: Outstanding. This wine is well-structured and balanced, with intense, complex aromas and flavors that are harmoniously integrated. The high alcohol and tannins are balanced by the wine's fruit. Ready to drink now.

Agree with previous tasters that this was better on pop and pour. The weightlessness of the wine stood out, the elegance pointed clearly towards a great maker. Unfortunately turned rather plummy and soft with air, chocolate notes that I dislike started to show.

Nose of raisin and VA, with the VA becoming more prominent over time. Roasted dark red fruits with very lifting acidity, but over time VA became more prevalent and a green weedy note popped up on the palate. This particular bottle needed to be consumed off the pop-and-pour, with a couple hours of air not doing it any favors. Not my preferred style, and didn't really want another glass when it was falling apart. But still really well made with refreshing acidity, so 91-92

Known as godfather of Amarone, blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, aged in Slavonian oak for 7 years. Medium intensity rich aroma of dried cherries, plums, chalky earth, dried rose petals and orange peel, cocoa hints, liquorice, spices. Full body, fragrant and elegant, flavours are as rich and seducing as aroma, supported by medium light acidity and well integrated and structured grained tannins, everlasting finish with dried cherry and caramel nuances.

Medium red color. Cherry pit, cherry preserves, medicinal, cinnamon on nose (+ a yeasty note another taster noted - once they said something I noticed as well) - very nice. On palate, consistent with palate. Rich full body - didn't note acidity or tannins - very long finish - guessed Quintarelli only because of bottle shape and color (cheating?). 93-94 range. Very enjoyable.

Grand délice! Vieux balsamique, cerise mûres, tannins fondus avec la juste dose d'acidité. Exactement ce que j'attendais d'un Valpo de 10 ans! Meilleur dans les 2-3 premières heures d'ouverture.
First drinking after 5 minutes opening: Nice aroma. It's too early and tasted a bit too sour at finishing. After 10 minutes in wide-base wine glass, the wine got nicer to drink. Ripe black fruit. Delicate tannin. Lasting after taste. Refreshing.
I left the wine for 4 more hours keeping it at appx 15°c and served at appx 20°c. The wine opened up more to show nice fragrance. More fresh wood aroma. The taste did not change much. Ripe black fruit. Very delicate tannin. Very enjoyable.

Enjoyed over two nights. PnP initial whiff of iodine that stayed the first night. Very pleasing across the mid palate though a tad astringent at times. It really needs a rich meat with sauce to bring it all together. I obliged with grilled lamb chops, sautéed cippollini, string beans and home made sage pasta. A producer to seek out for subsequent vintages; I will drink this vintage by 2030.

Small tasting glass @ VINEUM during service, so a brief note. Opened a regular size bottle and a magnum at the same time. Both delicious, what an insane good wine this is...The '11 is pretty open already, harvest was earlier in this vintage then normal as well so ripe and ready but can easily go on another decade!

Here we go atruffling... (aka Piedmont... and Veneto); 11/16/2018-11/30/2018 (Alba, Guarene, Modena, Barolo, La Morra, Lake Garda .....): Made almost 100% from the local varieties, 50% are fresh pressed and 50% are basket aged. It creates an interesting balance to the wine. Throughout the wine there is a freshness that I didn't really expect. The fruit comes across as a hint sweet in a nice way. Lots of blueberry and cherry. Great spicy note. It's a wine that stands alone quite easily (as we learned at lunch also pairs nicely with some of the local food).

Very good and ready to drink. Wouldn’t hold this
Much longer. It’s mature and is ready. Ripe fruits, very herbal. Very good and smooth.

A little ripe, but unbelievably delicious. Red plums, mulberry, slightly (characteristically) bitter finish.
