I brought this btl for Jim's BD dinner and served it double decanted and drank after 2-3 hrs. It was still a very young wine with subtle nose and tight structure.

Majestic reddish-purple. Notes of black cherry compote, grilled meats, truffles, sauvage underbrush. Satisfying earthy plum preserve flavors punctuated with a sense of gaminess, well-balanced sweetness, flavors and acidity. Could do with a few more years maturation for optimum drinking but very delicious presently. With 90 minutes air time, astringency makes its presence felt.

Burgundy color but with only a little bouquet and no flavor, with the wine left to its tannins. This has been my experience with Red Burgundy, truly a wine for the faithful and the believer. But I will quote the gospel of Mark: "Faith without works is dead."
This Potel 2005 Chambertin is less extracted than I had anticipated (personally not a huge fan of some of the 2005 reds, however this was nicely done). Rich array of mixed cherries, black tea, underlying Gevrey note of gamey underbrush. Well-balanced tannin structure and acidity. A sturdy 05 that could benefit with a quick decanting. Well-layered. Drink now – 2040. (89/100)

Heard that Nicolas Potel's 2005 Chambertin, contra most wines of this vintage, was open for business and indeed it was with an attractive nose of red cherry, roast meat, and sous bois. There is good purity to the red fruited flavors that are underpinned by a fine minerality, all of which offer moderate persistence on the finish. Very good.

Tried again - last tasting was 3 years ago. Still not getting much, but perhaps a little more lively than previous tasting. Just not matching the level of expectations I have for this wine and the vintage. Might be best to leave other bottles alone for a while longer.

No rating. Popped and poured, and drank over two hours. For me, this one is still not quite open for business, which is surprising given the positive reviews others have given it. Four years since the last tasting, and I fear I must wait another four until I try again.

Certainly open for a 2005. The pedigree is interesting and makes for an experience, however, sadly it never fully integrates even after working it through all the paces. We tried hard with this one but it never sang. Lots of red fruit, cherry on the nose and palate.

Like the only previous bottle opened, this is definitely the rare 2005 that is totally open for business. A very good (vs. excellent) wine, this was quite enjoyable out on the deck tonight.

PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root”’ day): Medium ruby to the eyes.
Intense dark chocolate, oak notes slowly giving way to more fruits like bluish purple prunes and plums, ripe black berries. Some animale and menthol notes as well. Very ambitious. In between primary and secondary aromas.
Highly mineral, high acidity but also quite high in alcohol. Strong spices on finish. Fruits flavours feel less apparent on palate and appear to have been “sucked away” by the heavy oak used? Tannins are silky.
Would want more fresh fruit flavours to balance out the heavy oak - Should one consider this being one of the “Robert Parker era” wine? Wine-making focused, oak heavy, ambitious wine. Well made indeed hence 93 points but lacks a little authenticity to me.
1 hour upon opening: Slightly opened with more blue pinot fruits. Have quite a bit of material but ultimately still lacks the finesse and structure from the top producers. 93-94 points.

Most approachable '05 GC or 1er that I have tried. Best years are still ahead but this wasn't punishing. Still a big wall of tannins, but there is enough beautiful pure red fruit to balance it out. Curious to see how this will develop over the next decade. Like the question with most '05's, will there be any fruit left once the tannins finally resolve?

Lovely Chambertin nose of dark cherries and ferrous minerals with deep spiciness. Firm and masculine on the palate with excellent intensity and acidity and plenty of balancing fruit flavors of black cherries, dark red spices, minerals and dark forest. Still young and grippy but the mineral/spice crunch on the finish is great and even haunting. Can be enjoyed now with a good bit of air and the right food (guinea fowl!). Authentic Chambertin. 94+

had this one night and the next night had the 2005 Potel Charmes Chambertin. this was simply put, amazing. Silky, seductive with a long long enjoyable finish. amazing perfume - strawberry, wet towel - tart cranberry in the mouthful and just an amazing glide to the end. my wife and absolutely crushed this bottle in no time. wish i had more!

this was a bit odd. nose was very hot - noticeable heat/alcohol - some strawberry - thicker and in a way more new world/California like. not what i was expecting. good but given the price and vintage a bit odd.

Dark color. Beautiful nose of dark cherry spice. On the palate, quite firm and structured at this point with lovely flavors of dark cherries and ferrous minerals. Finishes tight and crunchy with firm, somewhat gritty tannins. Concentrated and linear and clearly in need of some bottle age. It's no Rousseau but there is this simply lovely cherry spice thing here. 92+

With Sandy, the best red Burgundy I've had in years. Complex nose of violets, liquorice, mature raspberries, and a hint of mushroom, medium weight (for a Bordeaux drinker), silky smooth yet with good backbone and great length. Will develop further

Wet soil with hints of white truffle opening. Evolves into dried red cherries, violet, and purple berries. Red cherries and strong mineral on the palate with slight hint of smokiness. Silky texture but very long finish. Delicious wine

It served along with other 2005 GC in my BD dinner. I openned it 2 hours ahead but it still was very tight at moment, still young.
