What a pleasant surprise! Got a bit worried after having read other reviews. This wine was very much alive, even vibrant still. Nice transparent color, some bricking, but very fine, with good legs. On the nose very fruity, cherry, cola and some musty scents, but not unpleasant. Sweet taste, typically new world pinot, but very good.

Pre-dinner w/SES on Cape. Very good fill. Color good-no sign of browning at edges or 'wateriness'. Tannins shed but fruit still concentrated. A very nice surprise; expected to be well past prime

At home. Vibrant expression of Pinot Noir - in every way. Brilliant medium ruby with legs galore. Nose tends toward cola notes, intermixed with pretty rose petals. Lovely silky and rounded mouthfeel that gives way to rich, flavory cherry-like fruit on the palate, with a long, lovely finish. This wine is elegant and seamless yet not without plenty of body and grip. Awesome wine. 5-13-17-9: 94/100

Nice plummy fruit, grilled meat and forest floor. Excellent texture. However, the alcohol is very noticable on the finish and did not fade. I waited a little too long on this, my last bottle.

Mildly candied, slightly hot but just a mild distraction. More toward the red fruit spectrum - raspberry/strawberry with no earthiness noticed. OK wine but far from great. Just not my cup of tea anymore.

Big and bold. Just a little heat on the finish but that dissipated over time. Chocolate covered plums, pie crust, a touch of damp forest floor and dried herb. The finish is creamy, fruity and long. A fun, enjoyable wine that is very close to overripe. Drink soon.

Dark ruby, but nearly transparent. Medium bodied, some plum, but also red fruit, raspberry, maybe even slightly strawberry - not blue. Yes it is a bit hot (14.9 alc) - it is a Martinelli afterall- but has lots of acidity and is pretty agile, not heavy. Nice long finish. So not bad, but from a QPR perspective, lots of other places i'd prefer to spend my $50 going forward.

Solid nose of dark fruit with some floral accents. The palate shows earthy tones supporting rich fruit - plum and blackberry - and a silky mouthfeel. There's enough acid, however, to back up the richness - something that is missing in some Martinellis. Good length on the finish. Really tasty stuff!

Earthy nose of dark berry. Rich and dense and hot on the palate with cherry and dark berry and a little hint of green herb. Texture is initially smooth with a little roughness and heat on the med-long end. Personally I found the balance a little clunky and inelegant but that may just be a style preference. Not sure time would resolve that either.

A nose of black fruits, grilled meat, funky earthiness and a touch of talc. Silky, dense mouthfeel with black currant fruit. The finish is long but a touch hot and disjointed. I bet a couple of years will improve this one.

Amy's bday with grilled duck breast, yams in creme sauce. A very nice wine. I enjoyed cherry, cola and earthy nuances found in a wine that was well balanced. No noticable heat, nor was this over the top. Very enjoyable. Low 90s.

This was the most voluptuous, silky Martinelli that I've had. No hint of alcohol with a nose of cherries and cotton candy. The palate was rich, ripe rasberries and hint of herbs. Just a wonderful pinot and my favorite of the '02 Martinellis at this point.

Great Pinot nose - very seductive and sexy. Voluptuous mouthfeel - cherry, hints of cola, some other dark fruits. Very ripe, and definitely New World, but oh so good. For me this will probably not get a lot better - drink over the next couple years.

Herbfarm with Brandon & Corrie: Lavender Smoked Duck Breast, with lavender - cherry sauce fiddleheads, walla walla onion pudding. More concentrated than the Evenstad, featuring darker, riper Cherries. Plums and Blackberries also joing the chorus and this has a real interesting creamy mouthfeel. The WallaWalla onion pudding was very rich and sweet and needed a wine that could Stand up to the concentrated flavors. This worked very well with both the Duck and the Lamb (times 3) that followed.

Bricking very dark red violet color; mature, ripe, tart plum, apricot nose; mature, baked black cherry, ripe berry, vanilla, candied, baked berry palate; medium-plus finish (14.9% alcohol)
