Decanted one hour. Dark purple. Massive extraction but so smooth. Heavy mouthfeel. Layer after layer of flavor. Can go many more years. One of the best CA Syrahs I’ve had in years. If you can find this you want this. Massive flavor. This is outstanding. Could be 95-96 but being conservative with score.

Simply a fabulous Syrah! Aired at room temperature for 1.5 hours in the bottle, then 30 minutes in the glass. Nose is leather & earth. Tart on the front and back tongue, but very smooth finish. As with other Quivet Hulda Block Syrahs, this is a bold wine with strong character, but pleasant to drink now.

I've been drinking the 2016 vintage, decided to see how the 2017 compared. Definitely try this vintage now! Will definitely continue to mature, but very pleasant now. Aired for 3 hours, drank at room temperature. Cherry nose, strong legs, slight bite on tongue and fruit finish. Like most Quivet Syrahs, I view this as a "bridge" wine - though a Syrah, it's got enough body to pair well with spicier food. Chili con carne in process here.

Opened yesterday. Stuffed the cork back in the bottle and let it rest overnight on the counter. There is a good amount of fine sediment in the wine, as it's being laying sideways for about 6 weeks and it settled out to the side of the bottle. This wine reminds me of the Garys' vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Producers like Copain, Novy, Roar...it has the same kind of sensory markers. Some garrigue in the aromas, along with some purple flower. The core of the wine reflects notes of bbq sauce, tar, a candied citrus rind and licorice. The texture has a creamy, more polished feel with the citrus framing the finish. If you bagged this wine, I'd swear this was Garys' from the mid-late 2000s, perhaps even a Susan's Hill which is the Syrah plot up on the Pisoni estate. I don't have a lot of experience with Las Madres, although I know Greg P used to make some Syrah for his old Alcina label, and I don't want to take anything away from the legacy of Las Madres, which is a long, distinguished one....I'm simply given a reference for how the wine triggers some fond memories of SLH Syrah. I don't see this as a long ager, as it drinks fine now with some air.

Just arrived from the winery. 100% syrah. Brought to lunch with client in case he wanted to have some. Pop, decant and pour. This is a plush, fruit driven wine. Will compare with the Kenefick, which is whole cluster. Palate is fruit, red fruit, cherry and plum and raspberry. A tiny bit of pepper, but not a lot. Ready for business now. Tastes quite delicious. This is a modern California wine a la Mike Smith. He says it's cold climate syrah. Not sure if that explains the fact that this is fruity and not spicy.

Very tasty after an hour of air.
Slightly preferred the Myriad from Las Madres - Esther Block on this night, but continue to love both wines.

PnP. Agree with others that this is ready for business after opening. Really tasty stuff, though quite primary (obviously, its young).
