Reifes Granat, aufgehellter Rand.

Nicely surprised to find this wine absolutely perfect for drinking now. I think it is my last bottle, and a year or two since I drank the previous one. Good colour. Wonderful peppery start over a long intense herby strawberry fruit. All completely integrated, and no sense at any symptoms of over-age. The 2005s lasted much better than the 2006s.

Firm, manly and slowly coming around; very fine structure and backbone, cool, black fruit; a classic wine and much more fun the the 2005 St. Cosme #Trio

difficult to add further to my last notes. This is drinking really really well now. Wonderful nose from opening, but needs a bit of air before it softens up. Dark fruit and spice. Wonderfully old school wine. No signs of decline, but no need to cellar it further.

A: deep ruby N: medium(+) intensity level of black berries, mulburries, cedar, tar, wet wood, truffles, smiloke meat, herbal. Developed. P: dry, medium acidity, medium (+) level of soft and silky tanins, medium (+) alcohol, medium (+) body, medium (+) level of flavors similar to nose with hints of mushroom. Long finish. C: superb balance!

I can see from my last note in April that I planned to wait at least six months before opening the next bottle - clearly I failed :) That being said, there is no regrets. The wine drinks very well now. Dark fruit with a touch of leather and lavender. Great structure. Still no rush, since this will keep developing for several years.

Popped and poured at cellar temperature, this was very reticent. Decanting for an hour didn't help this much. Medium-dark crimson color. Faint aromas of graham crackers, but not much else on the nose. The palate is tannic but lacks body and character. I tried this back in 2009 and assumed then that the overall underwhelming impression was due to youth; unhapily, I can report that this seems to be an inferior vintage relative to the expressive, enjoyable 2003 and 2004.
This bottle was much better than last. Concentrated dried black fruit/ berries, followed up on the palette. Eucalyptus note on the nose. Interesting wine. Medium length.

Getting better and better. Still youthful but drinks very well after some air. Lovely spicy and peppery notes combined with elegant notes of violets and eucalyptus. I will (try to) wait at least six months before opening the next bottle.

I don't think this is quite ready yet. Nice perfume of berry liqueur that isn't quite followed up on the palate - somewhat rustic tannins are still slightly dominant. Smoothed out a bit on the second day, revealing a greater depth of fruit and more elegance. Was expecting a bit more, but I think this has some room to improve.

Elegant perfume notes of violets combined with a great Rhône spiciness. Drinks very well now, but will benefit from a year or two more in the cellar. Delicious old school style.

A point, leather, brick dust, still showing its place but I don't see tons of upside. No great rush, but I think this is about as good as it gets, and it's good.

Autumn has come and with that the rustic cooking and rustic wines. Dark ruby colour and heavy garrigue notes on the nose. Still youthful, but is drinking very nicely after a good decanting. Spicy and peppery style with long aftertaste.

Weekly tasting group #012; Southern Rhône (@ VD): Dark and rustic bouquet with blackberries. Sweet start, dark cherries and soft garrigue. Juicy wine with soft, but still firm tannin. Full bodied. It could well be that the Mourvedre (only 6%) plays a major role in the dark impression in this wine.

Reddish-purple color. Medium body. Smooth, glossy, elegant texture. Dust, funk, black cherries, and plums on the nose and palate. Tobacco appears later. Overall, mellow and pleasuarable.

Very good wine, requiring 90 minutes in the decanter to relieve the heat in the finish and bring out some bouquet. Fruit was limited to dark berries and some cassis. We;; structured, but dominated by earth and spice.

Quite dark garnet, very clean nose with some light scrub underbrush; The palate is reserved, dark red fruits, not so much lean as just very unyielding, rustic, backward. Tannins are substantial, but fine, not mouth gripping or overpowering. I'd like to see a little more depth and intensity, which would make this a really nice wine. As is, it's holding back just a little too much.
This held well and improved over days 2 and 3, opening up somewhat to show more depth, a beautiful darker profile for a Southern Rhone. Quite nice, if maybe lacking a bit of complexity at this point. Holding a couple more bottles for a few years, would really like to try the 07 version, but so far not showing up anywhere in the U.S.
Austere and restrained but also spicy and structured. With more air the nose showed a mature red fruit and earthy suggestions always supported by a cloak of "spice." A full palate of red fruits, spicy notes and "sous bois", without losing the feeling of lightness. Long finish. A wine that still asks for some time in bottle. Serious and with the roughness that plagues the Gigondas contained.

Halloween AC’s – A pretty fresh and clean Gigondas, I longed for a bit more stuffing though. Very sleek and refreshing, but I missed the depth of fruit and herbal/violety incense notes I like in Gigondas.

Still a very young wine. Dark and dense color. Opens up nicely in the glass revealing dark fruit (blackberries and cassis), but is still very backwards. Very good structure and elegance - this wine has great potential and should be kept for at least 3 more years.

Gigondas and Chateauneuf (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Fairly deep ruby. Forward, spicy, lavender nose. Medium weight, on the lean side, featuring structure rather than fruit. Very nice, albeit a tad short on the finish and at risk for drying out over time.

Another very strong version of this, my favorite Gigondas. Very similar to 2004 but a touch more refined and delicate while still carrying plenty of material. Nice, bright, framing acidity and red fruits, shading to black. The sample I tried was at least a couple of days and was still doing fine.
