Unscrewed and poured; no formal notes. These friggen Chardonnays from Margaret River. I’ve been blinded on them too many times to count and I never call it right. Instead, I always seem to call a high acid grape like Riesling of Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sometimes tropical, always with citrus and sometimes is shows green apple and always with awesome minerals. Acid is squarely in the high category. They are lovely wines that just seem to throw me for a loop. If Chablis, the Mosel and Sancerre had a love child. Drink now and through 2036 easy. A fabulous pairing with lamb massaman, larb and papaya salad. How can they hide the 100% new French oak so well?!

Everyone was working late so we decided to go out for sushi. Opened and poured - white flowers, pear and hints of orchard fruit on the nose. The palate was pear, cactus, hints of citrus and a touch of ginger which came out in the finish. A really nice wine.

Extraordinary wine that’s still tightly wound up and took an hour to open up in the glass. The nose was initially quite closed but opened up to show a range of flavours that included grapefruit, lemon and Tahitian Lime, Nashi pear, wet stone flintiness and an underlying delicate oak background. Once it had opened up it was lively and energetic and enticing. The palate showed a dense range of flavours that ranged from white nectarine, pomelo, lemon and pear with a nougat backbone of oakiness all underpinned with a pure mineral slate acidity that was cleansing and had a very Burgundian feel to it. It still has a very long life ahead with the stelvin seal. We loved it with some salt and pepper squid and Rankin Cod pan fried.

Too much lemon for me to love it. A good, but not great, wine for my tastes. Better with some warmth. Some rave as if this is Montrachet quality for a fraction of the price, but I don't perceive that. Plenty of other Chardonnays that I prefer for the money.

Gorgeous bottle, though the cellar is quite cold at the moment. Lots of honeyed fruits, like a mix of orchard and tropical fruit. Great balance and mouth feel.
Robert's Get-Together at Margaux's Table: PnP - This wine was drinking quite young. The nose was surprisingly a little better than the '14 that was also at the tasting. Nose showed similar tropical notes, but also showed a sweetness or honeyed nose that was not present on the '14. However, the palate was much more tight and restrained than the '14. I think this has the potential to be better than the '14, but it will need a few years in the cellar. Still no slouch and it is drinking well, just a little tight and I know it with some time it will improve. If opening now, I would recommend at least an hour decant, otherwise wait 2 -3 years for it to really shine. 92 today, but plenty of potential to score higher.

Mixed Wines at Margaux's Table (Margaux's Table, White Bear Lake, MN): Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour next to the '14. Last had this a couple months ago. Pretty similar to then. This is more coiled and taut in comparison to the '14, yet still it shows the same general character with more acidity, a bit more oak showing and more vigor to the citrus, lemon and sour fruits, and it has good salinity. Good now, but I think this will benefit from a couple years, and it will be even better. 92(+)pts.

Pale straw color; briney and piercing nose loaded with lemon drop and crushed stone; very clean and youthful. Tasting partners assumed it was Chablis (“no”) then went to classed white burgundy. After letting them bang that around a little I informed them it was not French. After a few more guesses we got to Australia. Then led to discussion on what’s “expensive”, QPR, value,.. This was every bit as good as a ‘12 Fevre Les Clos tasted alongside. But yes, a $65 Australian wine can sit on the shelf forever because most people look for cheaper wines from there. Summer Patio Dining over the 4th (Shari's, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. Lemon with a dollop of tropical fruits, spiced oak and vanillin. This will benefit from a little bit more time to integrate a bit more. 92(+)pts.

Aperitif before the day of. Pretty scents of pears, yellow apples, light vanilla and a mix between a sunflower head and white chocolate bar. Tasting reveals really clean notes of green apple, more pears, a smidge of tropical fruits in between a mango and a pineapple with *enough* acid to balance the notes of oak and butter. I wouldn’t pin this as a California Chardonnay, as it tends to remind me of a really ripe, but lean-ish Meursault. Pairing it with garlic buttered scallops really brought out more of that tingly acid. Fine Australian Chardonnay but I might admit that the 2016 Heytesbury from Vasse Felix is currently tasting (subjectively of course) better in my opinion.

流沙包: "It's like the promise of a Belgian waffle fulfilled" (Chicago, IL): In terms of the slight reduction here, there's something that reminds me of Roulot in this wine. It's a little tropical and shows a nice array of sweeter tropical fruits, but at the same time, there is the requisite acidity to correctly frame this wine. Every time I taste a Leeuwin chardonnay, I have to ask myself why I don't buy them. I really should be...

Over two days. Most appealing after 14 hours open.
Light oak notes evident on opening, dissipated over the day. Lemon and touches or peach. Nice structure, acidity so integral as to be barely noticeable

There's a touch of smoky mineral and a wonderful, crystalline fruit quality to this wine. It has some sappy, white peach, green melon, fig and intense citrus. It is rich and powerful, yet so precise and clear. Length is superb. this is Australia's answer to Batard.

Leeuwin art series chardonnay 2016. Really quite nice with fantastic balance and appealing citrus fruit. A lighter, linear style that had finesse. [Obtained as a web special, wouldn't pay standard retail asking price though US$70-80 is simply too expensive].

Didn't quite make it to day two. Still delicious that is but had faded. Next time I'll catch the whole bottle.

A very pure Art Series this time around. Crystal acid structure, lower fruit than in some years. And at lower alcohol. A baby, must try again shortly.

Nose of apples, peaches, lemon curd, citrus. Tasted green apples, green apple skin, lime, minerals. Fresh. Some structure coming through, which should improve with time. Nice

Great wine for watching a documentary. Definitely a left brain function type of wine.
Every element is crafted to such a high standard. You really have to try it to understand how close this comes to perfection.
Which in a sense is its only fault - it is almost too good. But that’s being pedantic, very special Chardonnay .

A bit disappointed, don't listen to the hype Of course it is delicious, but definitely not the best white wine ever made in Australia, like a certain wine critic said.
