  • Sampled over two nights, and it was much more expressive on the second. If you're opening now, give this one plenty of air. Light straw color with hints of green. The nose has lilies, lime zest, crushed volcanic rocks, just signature Hermannshöhle aromatics. The palate is pure quince jelly: rich red fruit that's simultaneously tart and grippy. The acidity is not prominent here, but present enough to keep the weight and sweetness very lively. This should have a wonderful future ahead of it.

  • Unfortunately, I opened this bottle after drinking Zililiken 2018 saarburger rasusch GKA#5. Zilliken was magical maybe the best Riesling I ever had. Not all GKA are equals.

  • Quarantine; 3/12/2020-5/29/2020 (Chicago, IL): #24-19, 7% abv. From half-bottle. There is something always incredibly exuberant about drinking a hyper-young high-Prädikat wine. The sweetness is so fresh and bright, and coupled with the crazy raw acids of youth, you get this electric excitement. This is no exception. This is a relatively lighter edition here, with fruit that is more on the tart side, and while this is sweet, there is certainly a bit of a greenish acid streak on the back end. Very nicely balanced, but oddly enough this edition feels a little more Mosel than usual, with those green fruit elements and a firmer backbone. Nonetheless, outstanding concentration and complexity (as always). It's been a long while since I've had this wine on release, so this was a real treat. The heightened sensation of acid here will give this wine a little extra capacity for aging is my guess.

  • Do not know why I am pnp-ing this half bottle today, as a Riesling addict i surely do know that i am committing infanticide tonight, but this fragrance...., and ONLY 7% alcohol, normally I would only buy and enjoy M-S-R classic style off-dry Riesling bottles, as they are overall the best from Germany, but... and this is a great but, there a some competitors from other zones, for me mainly from the Nahe zone who fill awesome stuff in their bottles as well,
rich, ripe tropical fruit fragrance, yellow peach, mango, honeyed palate appearance, but light and delicate as an butterfly landing on the blossom of a rose, tropical fruit again buffered by a very salty and lively acidity, outstanding showing that young, in a way harmonic cause the weight of the sweet fruit is perfectly balanced by this tasty acid, very curious how this will mature, no doubt for two+ decades, Riesling classic style for sure is the BEST off-dry white from the whole world! **(**-*****), 96 for tonight,97+ potential

  • Tasted at a trade tasting in NYC. Wow! Perfectly balanced with bright acidity, very long with ripe pear, peach and tasted only lightly sweet. Really a beautiful wine. Very age-worthy.

  • Tasted at the winery. Wow. Delicate flower nose, on the palate bright white peaches, honeysuckle and a soft citrus finish.

Later the vintner let us try their '92 Brucke Auslese that was singing like a choir of angels in heaven. This Hermannshole, by contrast, is a baby but thanks to the '92 comparison, we have a better idea of just how much more awesome this younger wine will become over time.

  • A baroque beauty - rich. layered nose of mint, apricot and peach. mid is very ripe but with a bright note of acidity and red berries over the honeyed peach and pineapple notes. Stunning and indestructible - as always.
