Deep garnet to deep ruby, subtle nose with hints of rose, black currant, tar, earth, licorice, and a little, "nervy" on the attack with dark, slightly stewed fruit, hints of orange rind, strong acidity and strong tannins, plump finish with black tea, floral notes, wood, cherry, subtle spice, and more

This wine is light ruby-garnet colored. In the nose the wine has pronounced notes of red fruits, like strawberries, dried leaves, graphite, black pepper, leather and a balsamic touch. In the mouth the wine is intense and juicy yet extremely elegant with silky tannins, a high but also very smooth and lively acidity, and a medium+ body. The wine is beautifully balanced and has a long and suspenseful finish. Over all a great Barbaresco Ovello right within its drinking window - if you like Nebbiolo within its fruitstage, this wine is now perfectly ready. Compared to other vineyards from the same vintage (I already tried Rabaja and Montestefano) Ovello is my indisputable favorite. Glass I used: Riedel Veritas Pinot New World.

E&R's Prequal to 25: Nebbiolo: Smells very pretty and floral; lovely tones throughout. Palate entry is soft in texture, showing mild tannins but they do build quickly as you hold it in the mouth. Spicy, showing more tannins at the end of a pretty rich overall experience. A nice, really balanced effort that I think will drink well in its youth, but really hit its stride with a decade+ age.

Prelude 25-an E&R Nebbiolo joint (E&R Wines, Portland OR): The nose is perfumed and youthful with fresh tones of rose petals, violets, red cherries, strawberries, roasted herbs, tobacco notes, raspberries, licorice, spice notes, and some earth. There is excellent depth and style to the nose that naturally shows off more primary tones, but they are in youthful harmony right here. The Full bodied feel is silky and refined with tart, high acidity and seamless, high tannins that are on the sneaky side. This is a great start to the tasting and I am a big fan of what Produttori did in 2015. This will age gracefully for years, but the open-knit nature of the vintage means there will be a real long drinking window.

E&R Prequel 25 - Mostly older nebbiolo (Portland, OR): This was initially a brick wall, aromatically mute and a quite tannic, astringent palate albeit with some pleasant chewiness. With air some pleasing, slightly candied fruit emerged. It might be able to enjoy this with a slab of meat but it needs around 10 years for my preferences. Strong hold

Looked much older in the glass. Leather, mushrooms, floral and earth. Others liked it more than me. Just seemed a little tired even though it was not that old.

2015 Produttori & Friends (Nella Kitchen & Bar, Los Olivos, CA): I struggled with this bottle, though my views were decidedly off-center relative to the enthusiastic reception received from others in attendance. A yeasty nose with bitter chocolate notes, presumably oak-derived, and I perceived more oak on the palate, which i found distracting. A tannic wine, with plenty of dark fruit. A thread of volatility provided some lift.

Delicious right now. Elegant aromas of blueberries, jasmine, tar, iron, and cigar. A touch more red fruit on the palate. On the ripe and sweet side for a Produttori wine, but there is decent acidic balance. Tannins are firmly present but not intrusive. In fact, structurally, I think it is perfect right now. And there is plenty of aromatic complexity. The weakness of this wine is that it lacks energy, which will dissipate further with age. So my verdict: drink now.

Decanted and aired for 90+ minutes. So muted upon opening and needs plenty of air to come alive. And THEN, the perfume is soo deep. Rich dark cherries, liquorice root, sweet tobacco oakyness, some light light balsamic note but that is still in the background, the nose also has a lighter whiff of almonds, menthol at the top. Just beautiful nose. In the mouth the tannins are still very pronounced and on the rougher side as expected and this wine really really needs food with some texture and fat. Alone it is a pretty rough ride as expected. Ovello has always been a little bit lighter on the foot in my book but geez, 2015 produttoris are all pretty dense and full on. Full of sweet rum-cherries, black tea, roses, but really drying out tannins at the end. Overall, great effort. There is balance with food but not withhout if that makes sense. :) Will come back to more bottles in 3 years or so. I like grippy stuff so im not gonna wait for it to become a tawny.

Very stylish and elegant. Young indeed, but still enjoyable at this stage. Nice nebbiolo fruit and hint of oak. Will probably improve nicely over the next 10-15 years

Nope. Despite the vintage this should be left for another 5 years at least. Loads of potential, really sharp acidity along with very feminine notes but needs to sit for a while.

Un beau nebbiolo dans toute sa délicatesse. C’est tellement bon, mais pas encore grand pour moi. À revoir dans plusieurs années, ce vin est clairement sur la pente ascendante!

Le Langhe 2021; 8/21/2021-8/28/2021 (La Morra): Dark plum smell, rich and brooding. Liquorice and tar. Powerful in the mouth, slightly metallic iron note. Lots of structure. Just about drinkable already but young. Very good.

God rødvin. Er såpass ung at den bør luftes. Eller luftes i karaffel. Fruktig. Mye tanniner. Snurper seg nesten i munnen. Kan og bør lagres videre. Oppsummering: fruktig, veldig god nebbiolo

Opened 3 hours before pouring. Deep red. Ripe and sour cherry on the attack with a dusty, earthy base. Strong underlying acidity and lingering tannins give an austere finish. Nice twist of citrus peel toward the end. Pretty rambunctious, burly Nebbiolo. Neither alcoholic nor sweet, but hardly refined either.

Opened for 2 hours. Color is brick red and though young the rim shows some orange/brown. On the nose: Red cherry, rose, mushroom and forest floor. On the palate: Tart cherry and strawberry, rose , red licorice, hint of spice and forest floor. Big tannins that need time. This wine has a lot going on flavor wise. While it needs time to better integrate it is fabulous and exceptional value for money. Another example of why this Coop is the best wine coop in the world for my money.

Red cherry, fennel, roses, forest floor - very nice, bright nose. Plump fruit on the attack which is well complemented by juicy acidity. Medium + tannin but kept in the background. Overall, really delicious to drink now.
Left for a 2nd day of tasting which led to some opening up. On the nose, some damson aromas with notes verging on umeboshi - really intriguing. Generally speaking, seemed sweeter on day 2 particularly on the long, sweet, iron-driven finish. I think this wine goes into the group of delicious, crowd pleasing Barbaresco.
Soft and round, with great purity of fruit. Lush nose of tar and roses, with a palette of black cherry, cranberry, earth, and minerality. Firm, smooth tannins, and a silky, balanced acidity. Surprisingly approachable for a Produttori Riserva at five years. Expressive, feminine, harmonious.
