  • Loads of leather, dried fruit and forest floor. Almost no primary fruit left. The wine really benefited from sitting in the glass for a while, to open up.

  • Coravin fun - Piedmont (My place, Kent Street): Savoury and concentrated, meaty, slightly cherry, alcohol prickle, smells 'dense', touch of oaky spice with time. Medium plus intensity acidity, juicy, fleshy, wild cherry, tight and chewy, slightly meaty chalky tannins. Alcohol warmth is controlled, balanced, long, obviously young but balanced and very nice indeed.

  • 2015 Produttori & Friends (Nella Kitchen & Bar, Los Olivos, CA): Thsi bottle really resonated with me, and was the most accessible of its flight. Expressive nose evidencing great typicity, with licorice and raspberry notes in the lead, some earthiness too. Medium bodied but intense and powerful. Sour cherry, licorice and a slight green streak. Sweet tannins. Seamless with food. I see real upside from here.

  • You can open this now with a good protein. High acid, some bright fruit makes this move. Not particularly profound but enough intensity and energy to make you pleased with the result. This is food-friendly juice.

  • Dark cherry, prune, liquorice, blackberries. Robust tannin and good acidity. Feminine structure, and a lot more subdued than the 2016 vintage.

  • Decanted 4 hours earlier. Light ruby color. Earth and red fruit on the nose. Medium to lighter weight. Sour cherry, real tar, a touch of green, fine acidity, and slightly grainy tannins. After more air the soil wins the battle with the fruit. A bit rustic but very good and no trace of warm vintage character. Of course there is more to resolve, but I'd guess that it will never move beyond its slightly scratchy feel in the mouth.

  • Nose: This was decanted in the morning and drunk 12 hours later. The nose opened up beautifully with lush, red-fruited tones of cherries, wild berries, strawberries, crushed rocks, rose petals, sage, thyme, and some licorice notes. There is an immense amount of depth as this is a nose to just lose yourself in.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The tannins are a bit deceiving as there is a delicious ripeness to the fruit with red cherries, strawberries, wild berries, crushed rocks, rose petals, sage, and thyme.

Overall: This is is clearly young. But, there is a real vibrancy to it that is extremely enjoyable in this nascent stage. This has the feel of an 07-like vintage where it won’t necessarily be classic, but it will provide a lot of joy for a good while to come. I would absolutely love to see where this is at in about 8-10+ years time.

  • Beautifully-perfumed tar and roses on the nose, into a young, vibrant palette of deep black cherry and dried herbs. Balanced concentration, nice acidity, and abundant, fine-grained tannins. A superb Barberesco that will be stunning in a decade, but with a few hours of air, is a genuine pleasure to drink now.

  • Stunningly beautiful Barbaresco. Rich, perfectly ripe fruit. Concentrated, thick but not syrupy mouthfeel - opens up and finishes long. Nice fine tannins. Perfect acidity. Open for business after just a bit of air. Even better after a couple hours. Great wine.

  • Wine tasted over 3 days. Deep ruby color. Powerful vibrant nose of pomegranate, sour cherries, finally strawberries as it continues to open up. After quite a bit flowers show up, roses. Mineral earthy background. Enters the palate structured, broad-shouldered with same acid pomegranate juice. Transitions to mid-palate with some licorice and bitter herbs, strawberry rhubarb (a perception that I share with user Bugdoced regarding his comments to Pora 2011). Grainy tannins. Very long after taste of mentioned fruit, roses and a gorgeous trace of petrol.

Still quite a bit of compressed power. Fantastic wine that can be consumed already after appropriate oxygenation but that should deliver much more in a few years. Pora is usually ready sooner than other Riservas from Produttori therefore I was assuming that this wine from a ripe vintage would be more open for business than it turned out to be. I infer that the other 2015 Riservas can wait way longer.

  • After my experience with the '16 normale a month or two ago I made sure to decant this a full 6 hours prior to tasting with a Zoom group. It is clearly VERY young, and even with 6 hours open the tannins are aggressive. But there is clearly great potential here. Probably a 91 for drinking enjoyment today, with 93+ in the future. If I had more, I would check in in 8 to 10 years.
