Starts off a bit harsh and tight. But opens up beautifully with a little time. Strong tannins. Bold and flavorful. Delicious. Garzon had never disappointed.
Very good black fruit here, seamlessly smooth on the palate with fully integrated tannins. Juicy and vibrant. Not sophisticated but a very decent wine.

If this is the riserva, I sure wouldn’t want to taste the ordinary bottling. This wine reminded me of overripe (decaying) fruit with Mourvèdre-like gaminess. The tannat I recommend trying is Chateau Montus (Madiran).

No remarkable wine. Offers no mistakes but also no interesting aspects. At least 2-3 points behind the regular Tannat, without reserva, which is not offered any longer. What a pity.

My first wine from Uruguay. Underwhelming upon opening on day 1 but looked much better 24hrs later. Soft generous fruits, some grapey sweetness in the front and middle palate, red berries, lines of soft acid and minerals in the back half. Easy to quaff. Looking good now and doesn't have the backbone to cellar.

Long tannins and great structure. Velvet to dusty mouthfeel (not quite as smooth as Garzon's Balasto, but go figure for $80+ less). The fruit dropped away after the first 10 minutes, then came back more elegantly after about an hour. Blackberry and licorice. Great steak wine, would hold up well with a roast and/or gravy as well.

Brooding dark fruit and some licorice on the nose. Full bodied, robust, acidic and tannic, showing tart dark fruit with a bit of licorice and dusty finish. This is quite a tannic/acidic beast that needs food to sing. Good value.

Color, dark clear red; 1st nose, red fruits, plums, oak & hint of vanilla. 2nd nose, pomegranate and currants. One the palate, medium to big body with layers of complex fruits and balance tannins. Long finish.

This is off the charts QPR with layers of complexity on the nose and palate.
Aromas of wild blueberry, ripe black plum, blackberry jam and violet. Gamey, smoked meat and an earthy funk. Oak notes of hot chocolate powder and worn leather.
Huge wine in the mouth. Grippy tannins, high alcohol and balanced acidity.
Flavours of ripe and jammy black fruit, leather, alcohol and earth.
At this price, I'd buy a few and watch them improve with time.

We tried this on Christmas Eve (2020) with ham and pork tenderloin. We were very disappointed with the lack of fruit on the nose, plus the wine seemed to have a little bit of funk that mostly burned off after having it in the glass 10-15 minutes.
The wine lacked the softest of Merlot which it’s closest to for a varietal standpoint, and also had a tannic finish. We don’t prefer this wine!

Wow, this is some inky wine. I am on a stretch of tasting some lesser known varietals for the next few days. Tannat is very popular in South America and is very tannic and raw. I am cooking Strip steaks and Cevapcici sausages, made from ground lamb which is fatty and spiced- I hope the pairing works.
The nose is blackberry jam, some charred oak and red licorice. On the palate it is as expected- fruity, primal, tannic and delicious. This is a wine made for a big South American Asado (grilling). The midpalate is so juicy it makes me pucker. Black currants, blackberry and a touch of mint all hit me. The wine is tannic, but not over dry. Black tea and licorice flavor the back end and the finish has a hint of charcoal. There is a definitive oak influence but it is deft and delicious. 91 points and 5 stars for this $15 Tannat. If you have never ventured into the lesser knowns, here is a good starting point. Drink till 2025.
Bought one to try. Big dark colour. Rich fruit on nose slightly baked. Rich on palate but enough structure to balance. Unsurprisingly tannins prominent but well tamed. Plenty of interest. Not for the faint hearted but enjoyed it .

This deep, opaque ruby wine opened up with what Max called an "earthy tobacco-leather continuum" and what Jessie called licorice, smoke, and red+blue fruits. The palate was quite spicy and highly tannic. Max called it medium acidity but Jessie pegged it at medium-plus, just balanced with the tannins somewhat. It was full bodied for sure.
After 60+ minutes of decanting, the blueberry notes became evident, as well as some chocoate. Max saw caramel on the finish, but Jessie disagreed, noting there was too much tang to call it caramel.
This wine went really, really nicely with our penne dish, which had Italian sausage, kale, garlic, and pecorino. It really showed what tannins matched with fats can do.

I have seen some other winos mention salinity when describing a wine and thought...that doesn't sound like something I would want to taste in a wine. Then I tried this beauty of a wine. @bodegagarzon is located in Uruguay eleven miles from the Atlantic Ocean and coastal influence is abundant. This wine was deep purple in color with fresh aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and plum with a touch of spice. On the palate, juicy ripe blackberry and plum, medium+ body, medium acidity and high tannins. Lengthy salty finish.

Dark, dark Ruby. Nose: Darkish Ink, fruit, oak. Palete: Full body, burned, inky, round tannins, balanced acid. Finish: Long, sweet, remaining fine tannins. Try the 2017 to compare. Guess that´s a better vintage?. Summary: Like the body and the pleasant tannins, somewhat burned, sweetish to be completly balanced. But it´s close.

A youthful-looking, semi-opaque crimson, right up to the edge. Pretty scents of plums, flowers and earth on the nose. Full-bodied, rich and quite plush in texture. There's plenty of plum, black cherry and boysenberry fruit character here, well matched to a moderate acidity. Shows very good depth and intensity on the mid-palate. Subtle hints of stone and mineral peek through on the long, lip-smacking finish. Noticeably rounder and less tannic in the end than the outstanding 2017. If tasted blind, I would have guessed this to be a good Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Undeniably delicious though, and excellent QPR at under $15. 50+5+12+16+7=90

Soft leather driving glove that has been doing some heavy punching on the battonage - and that’s just the nose.
Sadly, despite my initial enthusiasm for opening this curiosity, the wine is a little bit neither here nor there.
Deeply, darkly, starkly baked rather echo-ey dark fruits on the palate it’s a jammy wine due to a lack of genuine refreshing acidity. No real poise.
Totally acceptable but not one to impress the mother/father-in-law. Meh.

Drunk/tasted very young for a tannat wine (child murder?)
Pink purple coloration in the glass showing its youth.
Nose in the swirled glass very closed, unswirled faint notes of dark fruit and paprika (graphite)
Fresh and clean in the mounth with ripe and balanced tannins (it is tannat after all) dominating the fruit (if any). Good acidity in the finish.
In summary, this (2020) is too soon. Hopefully it all integrates and opens in the not too distant future.
If it stays “as is” then it is over priced (€17).
