A Blind Cabernet Tasting: [Tasted Double Blind] This pours extremely deep glass staining purple in the glass. No bricking, youthful appearance. The nose is of rich cassis, black licorice, blueberry jam dusted with icing sugar, rosemary, vanilla extract, some new oak, and a vague whisp of dusty soil. The palate enters on abundant deep and rich fruit, so much so that it borders on an off dry, and cloying characteristic. Tannin is medium minus and very fine and velvety with medium minus acid. Definitely a strong whiff of alcohol on the finish at 14%+. I called this a young, modern Napa Cab. On reveal I was correct, though I figured this particular producer wouldn't have been quite this modern. Not rated as I have difficulty appreciating this style.

My wife tricked me. We had a $15 bottle of Raymond out and I thought that's what she opened and poured. Instead, it was this and I was wowed! It is still a great wine but 3X the $15 bottle I thought I was drinking. Notes of blackberry and cherry with tobacco, wood and vanilla. Oak is understated.

"89 Dec 2021 👃 perfumed, black and purple berries. 👅 Aerated once. Acidic, blackberry, nutmeg, cinnamon, a little meaty, grippy tannins. Not what I was expecting but it was a bit of a down year. It's early, maybe 3 or 4 more years will bring it all together."
88 Mar 2023 👃 no change 👅 decanted a few hours. Very acidic, blackberry, nutmeg. Not meaty. Yeah, just a lot of acidity.

What a confusing wine. The nose is muted - subtle oak. Soft fruits, alcohol, it’s unrefined and likely needs a few more years to show its true character. I wouldn’t buy it again, and if you have any would give it at least 2 to 3 years before giving it a try.

Excellent cab from Stags Leap, especially at that price point. Well rounded, good complexity, lot of fruit with supple tannins. A people pleaser and goes well with pizza, red meat dishes or simply drink it by itself.

Very dark red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. From the list at the Creamery with dad. Certainly youthful and benefits as it sees air. Blackberry and black cherry, wood influenced, coarse tobacco, creamy texture, vanilla, moderate tannins and just a little green immature note. Opens well and already quite approachable though I'd prefer another 3 years. 89 to 90pts currently with some modest upside.

Showing much better potential than the 2016 this is wound extremely tight so I would say this was too early to open at this time. With that said its structure lends it to be better in a year or two but was solid drinking last night. Bright cherry dominates with a almost silky finish with firm tannins that will mellow with age. Good but hold for now!

Color: purple Nose: dark fruit, leather, smoke, crushed stone Palate: raspberry, dark fruit, spice Finish: Medium long Tannins: Noticeable, not chewy, more zesty
This falls into the category of a dry cab, and probably would benefit from another year in the cellar to smooth out the tannins. I prefer something like Heitz at this price point as it’s equally complex with tannins more integrated

I have not had this Stags Leap Cabernet before. I was really impressed for the value. The mouth medium plus bodied smooth and well balanced of what you would expect in a Napa Cab....juicy fruit blackcurrant and cherry with a bit of Tabacco. The tannins were fine and subtle. Enjoy no for sure or you can let it sit for a few years.
