Vougeraie Clos De Thorey 1er Cru Monopole 2018 Quite a ripe nose of ripe red cherries, red berry fruits, hints of jam and clove. On the palate, ripe red cherries, clove, hints of licorice and bramble, with some hints of herbs, in a juicy and exuberant style. Certainly a ripe vintage with more body. 90/100

Bright and pure red fruit, cherries and raspberry, layer of restrained minerals, spice and wood, clean and focused, grippy but silky tannins, fresh, but without great complexity and lacking a bit in tension and energy. Still young though…

Smoky bouquet with herbs and spices and beautifully dosed oak. Same on the palate, good acidity and a pleasant touch of sweetness. Still quite youthful, but already delicious. Is still improving and will probably continue to do so the next 3 – 5+ years.

Rustic bouquet with minerals, raspberries and other red berries as well as some vanilla. On the palate a firm amount of good red fruit acidity, cherries, herbs and spices and friendly tannin. Beautiful and juicy wine.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Walk around tasting. Bright red fruit here with delicate spice and faint meat, this Thorey again shows a charming combination of prototypical NSG and Vosne traits. Good weight, very good length has an uplifting finish, this is nearly balanced already, better from 2024.

Has a woody red fruited nose (stems?), flavors of red cherry dominate seems quite ripe and reminds me of California a little without the cola, some raspberry lush mouthfeel, sone licorice in the background with sone floral perfume flavors, not really tannic mild to moderate acidity, nice. Revisited day 2 and tasting note is largely the same, one thing I like is that I don’t notice any oak influence. Monopole

Quite smooth, with a lively fruit character, but fragrant. I expect it will improve some more. 89+

Sommelier Scholarship Fund Tasting (Popina - Brooklyn NY): Walk around tasting. Much less accessible than when tasted in March, this seems to be shutting down firmly and quickly, like many 2018s. Lots here, but this needs time.

Good aromatics, open and inviting, very persistent flavors, long aftertaste, no heat, very well made.
