  • This is textbook for quality zinfandel & the interesting results from its famously uneven ripening. The nose gives blue fruit and a touch of plumminess, but mostly the palate is characterized by racy acidity and red fruit. You get a little bit of everything. I always sleep on the Papera, but it's grown near and dear.

    Bedrock drinking windows are spot on for this one: it's just entering it now. It's a bit tight, finishes with some tannin, but is definitely open for business. Still, has some time ahead of it if you wish to wait.

  • A bit of a science project to get this wine going.

    At PNP this frankly wasn't that enjoyable. Poured into a magnum decant and placed a ball cork to seal and back into the cellar it went.

    After 48 hours and some swirling this was in a much better spot. 97 pointer, no. As other have noted there is a rhubarb component or orange peel that comes to mind. Nice acidity and more enjoyable with food.

    Not sure about upside but no rush with a proper decant.

  • Good plummy fruit, rhubarb, touch of smoke and bitter finish. No rush but I don't see it improving much. In line with a lot of the other 2018s from Bedrock.

  • This may be the best Bedrock I've had. I didn't notice the Galloni review until after I drank it, and while I find the score inflated, the rest of the review sounds just like the bottle I just had. Phenomenal, though I seem to be in a minority on this one.

  • Day 1 Fairly effusive fruit, but with a simple straightforward profile, medium depth, medium finish. Expected considerably more after a pre-release off the charts score. I rushed to pick up two. I could imagine a youthful piercing fruit tone, upon release, but today it’s lacking much of a package in support.
    Day 2 Picks up a little of Carignane’s sauvage tone, & is a touch more rounded, but has little more to offer. 1 of 2

  • Crimson in color. 14.6% ABV. Savory nose of red fruits, citrus and plums. Medium body with medium acidity. Rustic, Claret style field blend. Cherry, blood orange, smoke and pepper on the palate. Nice length on the finish. So clearly from the Bedrock block at Papera where Zinfandel takes a back seat to the other varieties. Somewhat underwhelming given the hype for this particular wine. Best over the next 2-3 years.

  • I’m not sure I understand the lofty score from AG. It has nicely integrated acidity, and therefore terrific freshness with bright red fruits. Smooth, silky mouthfeel, but overall, medium in body and length, but nothing spectacular on either the bouquet or finish.
    Bought on release from the winery, stored in a cool room, bottle opened for 30 minutes b foe dinner.

  • Had this along with a Carlisle 2018 Papera, so interesting to see the style difference.

    Vs a fairly polished Carlisle, this one came off admire rustic and old school. Purple colored and fairly dark, nose was dusty, menthol, and wild dark fruits. On the palate this wine is very bramble and wild dark fruited, has a dark spicy profile, blackberry, graphite and a touch of smoke. Still pretty tannic and feels not quite opened up, though med-high acidity keeps this fairly drinkable. I drank this way too you, but give it 3-4 years and it will be quite nice.

    Rated the same as the Carlisle, but ultimately think this will be the better wine.

  • My first Bedrock purchase in about 4 years and was interested to see how the style has changed as I've heard there's been a shift. The first thing to strike me is that this is delicious, like really delicious. 97 as per AG? I dunno, but it's very good. The acid is much higher than I remember on older Bedrock, and the mouthfeel is not nearly as thick/glycerine-ish as Bedrocks circa 2010-2013 ish. On night 2 the acid is even more prominent. It does not really have the brambly spicy zin thing going on, I'm not quite sure what I'd guess it as blind. Also not sure exactly how it will change with age as it's so damn drinkable now.
