Served with Crab Linguini and roasted (cracked) crab. Really more balanced than expected. Agree with moderate long finish. Acidity is very nice and for me, not too much fruit. Paired well with crab after starting with a French burgundy (blanc). Probably not quite yet at peak but excellent now. Opened 1 hour before dinner. No decant.
Pure Pinot Noir strawberry jam fruit in the glass. It appears that Kosta Browne is now making their Sonoma Coast wines less extracted. While it is still a fruit bomb, it has an elegance to it that I have not seen before from this producer.

Founded as recently as 1997, by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne. Eventually switched hands and sold in 2018 to the Duckhorn Wine Company, which also owns one of my favourite US wineries, Calera.
Thanks Mika for sharing this.. Served blind to us - So obviously a new world pinot with the freshness, raspberries which quickly evolved into ripe strawberries.
I took a stab, and told Mika I thought it was a new world Pinot... Possibly Kosta Browne? Hmm Sonoma Coast? May as well guess its a.. 2018. Spot on.. I guessed right!
Sonoma's cooler climate and breeze encourages slow ripening and prolonged hangtime, making this region very suitable for Pinot Noir and Chards too.
This is in contrast to the warmer Napa region, which focuses more on Cabernet and other Bordeaux-styles. They are both located north of San Francisco, with Sonoma being 80km west of Napa Valley towards the Pacific Ocean coast.
The acidity was beautifully balanced, and this was probably the co-WOTN. Great palate of red fruits but it was the nose which excelled!
Happy Birthday to SL, 50 and young!!

The initial whiff was a very powerful strawberry theme, with hints of tarter red and black berries in the background. Conspicuously absent were oak, earth, and cherry. The flavor was less intense than the nose, although in the same vein.
With the second glass, as the wine warmed from cellar to room temperature, the berry flavors gave way to an intense tart cherry profile, as if this were a California Cab disguised in the softer body of a Pinot.
I left it alone for 6 hours, back at cellar temp. When I revisited, the original berry profile -- although darker -- returned along with some pleasant hints of mushroom, with a faint finish of tobacco and cedar. Curiously, baking spices arrived on the finish, rather than the nose, as is more common with these wines.
The EtOH level on the label is 14.4%, yet it never felt that high. Acidity is medium, or slightly on the high side of medium, yet not annoying (even for me, who hates high acid in red wines).
Here's the dilemma: The quixotic flavor profile suggests that this wine is in a closed phase, but in a way I don't feel qualified to pronounce compared to the obviousOld World wine scenarios; however, the tannins are already quite soft. Perhaps it requires a meticulous decanting/aeraton (for which I have little patience) to drink now. This one will require a marksman (or a good crowdsourcing of tasting notes) to identify when this wine is at its optimal drinking period. I think it is too early as of this date, but I foresee the window being brief, and within the next 2-3 years.

A unique flavor profile. Not fruity, not loamy, as if the grapes are left to speak solely for themselves. Clean, clear settled presentation. Very interesting, appealing presentation for pinot drinkers.

Very perfumed. Light red cherry color in the glass. Morello Cherry, strawberry, and raspberry flavors. Beautifully integrated tannins. Medium+ finish. This is a lovely wine. Retail price was $130. I get the raves, however, over-priced IMO.
Expressive nose displaying layers of strawberries, plums, ripe figs and a hint of loam. Smooth acidity and tannins with dark fruit up front on the pallet with a nice long finish.

Now I know what failure tastes like. This wine offers so little in flavor, provides too much alcohol, and demands so much in price. It's the worst quality-to-price ratio of any California Pinot I've ever had.
A huge fan of KB wines and this did not disappoint but it didn't WOW me either.
Even after an hour in the glass the nose never really opened up. I did find some cherry, raspberry and hints of oak.
On the palate this was decently balanced with a slight acidic streak. Red fruits are front and center with Asian spices and oak spices. I did not find the multi-layered style of other KB wines but this was very enjoyable and went well with lo-mien dish.

KB going downhill since their transaction. This wine lacks the aroma, mouthfeel and taste we once love about KB. There’s too much good wine out there and this isn’t one of them.
Much brighter and more exuberant than the 17 SLH that I had previously, that was apparent after a quick PnP. This follows a more extracted style with darker cherry, ripe strawberry, mint, and long finish. Really good and reminds me why KB got me into that bigger Pinot game. Drinkable now or in a few years. Would recommend a decant if you open in the next year or so though. 93-94

Very enjoyable appellation offering from KB. High toned cherry notes delivered on a soft and inviting frame. Fairly straightforward and linear but well done. This wine is polished and flawless but does not grab you and blow you away. The Sonoma fruit characteristics are there but integrated and somewhat muted. I really enjoyed the wine but expect a bit more at this price point. It is still wonderfully made and clearly quality in the glass.

This is more traditional than the Wren Hop on the same night but exudes poise and and a pillowy softness; cherry, candied apple, long luscious finish again of cherry and earth. Not so extracted but at the same time a very isolated PN, could drink this every day. 94. Could drink daily

The 2018 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir takes the characteristics of the Sonoma Coast AVA, isolates the high-toned cherry components, and turns it up to an 11. In the process though, this downs out all of the nuance that I expect from a Sonoma Coast pinot. The notes of rose petals, black pepper, and earth are there, but they are drowned out by the overly ripe fruit. At $80, there are a lot better valued vineyard-designates in Sonoma.

Stunning floral nose, and at one juncture.. even came across as Oremus Tokaji, that's how sweet and seductive the flower notes were.
Strawberries and sweet red fruits palate, longish luscious finish too.
The nose helped guide JY and me to guessing.. American pinot, and we narrowed it down to Hilt or KB, but alas we got the vintage wrong by 2 years.
A blend of PN from 6 vineyards around the Petaluma Gap and far coasts too, there are fresh elements of forest floor as well as lingering black tea.
Ahhhh.. what a treat, thanks @Mika Tyson Teau bro for a preview of this, I have 1 in my cellar which I only plan to open at the end of the decade!
