Tasted at Tre Bicchieri NYC. I was a little disappointed with this. It seemed quite herbaceous and "green" with a hard, tannic edge. Had been open for 1-2 hours. Undoubtedly needs time, but this seemed unbalanced to me.

Piemonte: Back to the truffling!; 11/24/2022-12/3/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Typically my favorite of the crus of Vietti and so always fun to try. Black sweet fruits, a bit more primal almost in style, tight but with time (like 20 seconds) it gives more in the glass. Really drinking nicely even if all of these need many more years. Enjoyable.

An incredible ~20 wines tasted with incredible knowledge transfer about Vietti (they are badass if you haven't had their wines)- wines, history, style, etc. No note, impressions only. Speed tasting.
More masculine than the others, red fruits, mineral, complex - very good 93+

The Ravera 2018 is totally riveting with every nerve and nuance it possesses in its plain youth. It grows in the glass typically in a vertical, stringent and linear way, marked by a huge inner energy and thrust. Plenty of structure, stamina and lean muscles push the lifted bouquet of tart red berries, sour cherry, orange peel, crushed stones, tar and chalk. I like the mineral aspects here, saturating and prominent. The Ravera needs time, also in the 2018 vintage but it’s already now a notable Barolo that shows the beauty and power of Ravera in a striking way.

Tasted at @Jeroboams 'Fiesta Piedmontese'. Short note: Tarry, meaty, savoury nose. Big and powerful, has a dark feeling to it. Brooding. Through the intensity there is a little floral character too.

Pure cherry fruit with some sandalwood spice on the nose. It is fleshy in the mouth, with waves of flavour. There’s exotic spices and stony structure. With air complex aromas and flavours keep on coming and it is expansive and seriously long.

Violets and cherries greet the nose. In the mouth there’s volume and depth and it slowly builds, fanning out on the finish. A highly perfumed wine that is already engaging.

The ‘18 Ravera was quite closed on the nose, showing only hints of dark berries, plum, dusty florals and hints of minerals; yet still, I found myself being drawn closer and closer to the glass with each sniff. On the palate, silky textures were quickly firmed up by riveting tannins, with lifting minerals and inner florals creating a more feminine feel. The finish was long, yet also quite tannic, showing a mix of red fruit, inner florals and spice. As usual, the Ravera is impossible to judge at such a young stage, showing quite understated but with a structural core that may carry it for decades. (Barrel Sample: 93-96 points)
