Absolutely huge still. Woody edge to the tannins, but massive fruit. A big big wine with almost port like flavours. I'm astonished that it hasn't mellowed that much with age. Will keep my last bottle another 3-5 years to see what happens.

Decanted for about 3 hours. Deep dark purple red with clear rim, not as dense as some fruit bombs. Really nice blackberry eau du vie nose with a hint of sage and a port like complexity. Very fresh with typical zin blackberry flavours with a funky sage note a bit port-like but with a lot of finese. Very tasty and more claret like than fruit bomb. Shows the merit of having a bit of age on a zin.

Bit of forest moss/seaweed on the nose. Still some tanins in the finish. Was an overall disappointment given the age. Slightly mmore complex than the average Zin, but not a memorable bottle in any way.

Typical hot, oaky and fruity Four Vines approach. More sweet than bitter, which is more than you can say for some of these. Have to admit it hits the spot, and is probably one of the few wines that could stand up after a sweet rasberry dacquiri.

This wine was a real crowd pleaser. The nose is a blend of blackberry, bramble, and vanilla with the palate following the nose. There isn't a great deal of complexity, but the fruit is ripe and clean. This medium-bodied wine has round tannins, and the finish is solid.

Popped-n-poured, then drank over 2 days - nearly identical. A sizable wine with blueberry pie, forest underbrush and crumb cake on the nose. The palate reveals a pleasing mouthfeel with just the right amount of viscosity and breadth. Bing cherries, vanilla and a zesty finish round this out. A decent Zin for around $23, but nothing terribly memorable. Drink thru 2011 for best enjoyment.

Deep Cherry red semi-see through, and reflective. The nose after an hour was still a bit minerally, but the fruit/Cherry predominate/ is there in spades with a vanilla lift. The taste on attack is a stronger cherry and bramble berry mixture convered in vanilla cream through the mid-palate and long 45 sec finish. This is a great bottle to open now, and I think it has 1-2 years left to mature. Wish I had a few more bottles. Went great with Bar-B_que Brisket , beans and cornbread!

Another great bottle...love the spicy white pepper, but has an even more intenseness than before. A little heat, but mixed well with the pepper. Very wild and tasty!

DC Zin Offline: Awesome nose of white pepper and plums. Beautiful mouthfeel on the palate. Acidity gave it some nice lift and made it light ono its feet. Excellent wine. My WOTN and 2nd place with 21 votes.

Soft berry fruit and pepper spice nose. Wild berries, white pepper and a touch of bell pepper on the palate. Berries and just-right spice carry the finish. I didn't note any of the cherry or sweetness others have.

Strong chemical acetone and pepper nose upon first opening. Pepper and spice prevail. After breathing, the nose opens up to reveal lush hints of Blackberries, Currant and Sandlewood. definetly one of those wines that you can taste the change in character as it opens up to reveal it's complexity. Nick and I characterized the personality of this wine somewhere between David Niven, Telly sevalas, James Garner and Cary Grant. Delicious and a must have wine.

NOSE: very pretty nose: rose petals and sweet red fruit, changing to ripe black fruits with time; sweet.
BODY: clear; ruby colored with slight orangeing throughout and at edges; medium-light body, gaining weight with air time.
TASTE: sandalwood spice throughout; ripe black cherries and ripe raspberries come through on the mid-palate and long finish; slight oxidative note in background suggests this bottle may be less than perfect; some secondary notes of mocha. This wasn't nearly as "big" as I've come to expect from Four Vines...this bottle tasted a bit washed out.
Soft, murky ruby-purple color. Dust and sugared mixed berries on the nose. Silky, smooth, full body. Dark berries and a wonderful savory note on the palate. Lingers but is not cloying. Delicious.

Not as much fruit as I had expected. Instead, more acidity, tannin and oak. Definitely not over the top. This would pair well with food but it doesn't "wow" me.

I liked this. The rating reflects my experience. My wife couldn't stand it. Noticing the range of reaction by other cellar trackers, I suspect that there may be someting in this wine that only some people have a low enough threshold of sensitivity to notice. If you have that level of sensitivity, you will not find this drinkable. If, like me, you do not notice that "something", you will consider this as having a pretty good QPR.

Briary, sweet nose. Loads of jammy fruit, with hints of cedar and chocolate. Great mid-palate of pepper, and a very long finish. For those that like big zins with a touch of class, this is a great wine. You won't be disappointed.

Off bottle? I like big fruit, but this was like cotton candy flavored Robitussin. Syrupy with no mid-palate, hints of oak to go with the slightly nauseating cough-syrup finish. Wish I could agree with the crowd, but this bottle was just plain bad.

Wild zin berry fruit, dusty dry cedar tannin, cocoa powder, coffee, white peppercorn spice. Intense with spice, yet creamy plush briary fruit, sweet and tame. Opens after an hour or so to a Zin bomb in flavors and mouth feel. Nice wood spice, sweet berry florals, all well balanced and tasty! Great Zin!

I was really surprised by how good this is. Tons of black fruit and blueberries, but not jammy or over the top. Smooth and nicely balanced. Much better than their "old vines" release for only a few dollars more. I'm going to try to find more.
