Third wine of the night with my brother and sister inlaw. So not extensive analytical notations made! Good but seems young, very jammy, needs a little time, but if you like ‘em young.

Decanted 90 min; Very fruit-forward, with flavors of black cherry and currants, eucalyptus, and oak and vanilla flavors on the finish. Was far more enjoyable on day 2, so may need additional time to further integrate. A fairly sweet tasting wine, this did better when paired with some food. Drink now - 2028.

Pnp. It's like biting into a blackberry bush. Fresh, juicy blackberries, the seeds, and the leaves from the bush...it's all there. Medium acid and tannin. It's not a blockbuster, but an enjoyable bottle that doesn't need too much thought...better than I expected. This can go another handful of years. Drink now - 2029. 90 points.

Beautiful to look at (if I was a wine, this is what I would want to look like) and even better to drink. Big fruit explosion...in a good way... that just engulfs your taste buds....front to back, side to side. Every single taste bud lit up. Dare you to only drink 1 glass of this.

Bien.

Deep purple color. There are notes of deep dark fruit, cassis, black cherries, but also a touch of red fruit, sweet spices, also some menthol, floral notes too, there is also some caramel and licorice. It‘s pretty full-bodied, with good depth, has some medium tannin adding some structure and medium+ acidity adding some nice freshness too to balance the slight opulence. Good finish. This is a really nice, ripe, fruitforward and juicy wine that paired nicely with our Korean BBQ. Not what I would want to drink every day (I prefer a little more restraint), but works nicely here. Pretty good QPR in the context of California, too.

Deep ruby with slow thick legs. Very aromatic, with notes of blackberry, black currant up front, followed by cedar, bell pepper, and graphite. Very bold in the taste department, with stong tannins and notes of blackberry, smoke, menthol and pepper. Definitely a workout for the taste buds!

Deep ruby. Pronounced Tobacco black cherries and leather on the nose. On the palate high alcohol and high tannins but very smooth. Leather cedar blueberries and blackberries with vanilla on the finish. Tasty and well balanced, well made but lacks complexity and character.

My 1000th TN! And here we are. On one hand I regret it was “only” a bottle of Leviathan. On the other, it’s very fitting that now, 1000 TNs later (and undoubtedly quite a few that I missed), I encounter a wine that I know I would have gone ga-ga for in the beginning of my wine journey: gobs of fruit, good dose of vanilla and chocolate, some pleasant dried herbs on the finish. Full bodied. Voluptuous. In your face. Palate-coating. This was like back when Orin Swift had the OG Prisoner at $40 some 10+ years ago (which I loved). But now I find myself unable to make a dent in the second glass; I’m too “full”. I long for acidity, for minerality, for fresher tasting fruit, for balance, for a more elegant length. If you need a Napa fruit bomb at $40, this is it! But if you’re 1000 TNs in, then maybe find something a little more interesting …
So starting from here on out, it’s time to “rebalance” my scores. Now, if I wouldn’t buy it again for personal consumption, it can’t get 90.
syrah flavor and tannins; big and still a bit burly, with plenty of stuffing; this is more open now than last year, but i will hold my last bottle for a year or two.

My last bottle of this and more in line with some negative prior experiences. No freshness at all. Cassis, milk chocolate, and roasted fruit. No tannin and no acid. Reminds you of a super ripe $40 Napa Cab that sat on your counter a few days. Might be some bottle variation with these.
Opened in the bottle for 3-4 hours. Full bodied and a little clumsy at first. It appears to have all the elements to eventually come together (especially for the low price) but will take time. Sweet dark fruited with noticeable Syrah earthiness (especially on the nose) and cassis/anise from the Cabernet. Never my favorite blend but alway consistent in the $30 range.

berry, fruit forward but nice refinement. Ready to drink now. I don't think it will last more than 2 more years as it will fade quickly. Drink now with a big steak.

A fantastic Cab at a $40 price point. I prefer Hall a bit more at that price point, but this is a great alternative. Lots of dark fruit and spice, great acidity, and not too tannic for a Napa Cab surprisingly. I’ll definitely be buying more!

Preface. My wife wanted to buy this wine. I did not.
This is a HUGE, high alcohol wine. From reviews I did not expect to like this wine. Reviews are spot-on in this regard. Ripe dark fruits 14.9% alcohol (ridicules IMO), and mouth-drying tannins. Yes, it’s early for this wine. We will try again in 5+ years. I’m not looking forward to that tasting, but my wife is more forgiving.
I would write more, but I’m trying to be more objective in my reviews.

When a wine bottle says it’s a Red blend, I need to dig deeper. Turns out this one is a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc. No details were forthcoming as to ratio though. It is deep purple, the strong legs giving away the 14.9% ABV punch I am about to get. On the nose I get rich blackberry, black cherries and chocolate. The palate is rich and dry with those dark fruits and a healthy yet ripe set of tannins that coat my gums immediately. As the wine flows I start to get some spice box components and charcoal. The tannins are formidable mind you and I am battling the attack on my teeth, hoping the fruit comes through a little more. The mid palate has Lapsang Souchong tea (a smoked black tea from China) and more dark fruit including plums and blackberry. It is a nice mix of flavors but the tannins are by now numbing my upper gums. This wine is a baby, needing an aerator or several years in the cellar. It should drink nicely from 2024 till 2030 with juicy, fatty meats, stews or hearty red sauced pasta. It finishes with a medium length and medium acidity. The balance is not quite there yet, but I think this wine has lots of promise. 91 points would be fair, but it could go up a point or two, let me re-taste in a few years as I bought several bottles. At $35 it is an excellent value for a Cali blend that gets 5 stars from me.
The wine was decanted for over an hour. The aromas seemed somewhat muddled and muted. There was lots of dark fruit present, predominantly blackberry. The tannins were smooth and provided nice structure. Medium finish.

Big and somewhat over the top with the boysenberry and plum on day 1. Also showed its alcohol somewhat, too. On Day 2 it really evened out and was smooth with a long finish to flash its potential. Looking forward to trying the next bottle in 2-3 years.

big but not overripe by CA standards; solid boysenberry, full mid palate, a hint of oak, adequate structure; syrah-like tannins are slightly chalky right now, but has upside; more blue fruit on day two. Great with BBQ lamb.

Boysenberry, baking spices, pie crust makes this a well integrated balanced wine. Fine tannins and light acidity. Benefited from an hour decant to soften things. Solid banger at the price. Should hold up for a few years.

Bright red fruits with a little blackberry and a touch of earth. Few tannins showing if any. Disappointed overall, plenty of cali red blends out there with a superior qpr to this. Given the syrah component, I’m going to hold one and retry down the road.

Decent enough blend that conceals its ABV well. Still in all, it lacks identity. Blah across the palate, but finishes nicely with length, proper acidity and no heat.

-- cork pulled approx. 1.5 hours before tasting -- -- tasted blind over approx. 40 minutes -- -- blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Franc --
NOSE: complex; "dark"; hints of leather and something earthy.
BODY: garnet color of medium to medium-deep depth; medium bodied.
TASTE: tobacco; ripe red fruits; black licorice; very big wine, but I liked it. The last glass remaining in the bottle was moderately oxidized two days later. 4/5 rating.

Wasn’t hugely into it, reminded me of a better version of a lot of red blends I’ve had. Some interesting notes starting to come across on the nose with dark fruits and tar, but there wasn’t enough structure and depth to get me going.

Great nose and decent price after 15 min decant. Purchased at Big Red for $30. Wanted a little more tannins and acidity for aging, but should still age well. Maybe not 10 yrs though. A little flat on the finish but probably just needs more air time in decanter.....update 1hr later. Definitely improving with air time. I'd decant 60 to 90 minutes next time.

Amazing wine and wanted to share the wine makers thoughts... Andy Erickson who is from Screaming Eagle, Favia & others.. “An intense mix of fresh boysenberry, black cherry and plum jump from the glass with coco powder, allspice and nutmeg. Its earthy elements of our rocky northern California hillsides include Bay Laurel, sage, cedar, dry red earth which speak to its origins. Supple and balanced tannins of this rich wine lead to a long savory finish with hints of graphite and star anise. It is approachable now and built to cellar.” This is a BIG wine for sure, and it’s juicy, too, with plenty of hedonistic fresh-baked-blueberry-pie notes, plush texture, and long warm spice finish. 93 points: “Blackberry aromas with some violets and rose petals. Medium to full body. Tasty and delicious.” Either way, it’s a treat. Rock on!

Needs another few years in the cellar, but purplish blue inkiness with a lot of punchy dark red fruit, some granite to it. Went great with a burger.

Wonderfully fresh floral bouquet. Dark fruit with medium tannins followed by a medium+ finish. Lots of fruit flavor, kirsch, and juicy.

Rock on!
