Opened at Le Cinq in Paris. P&P and enjoyed over dinner.
Was a toss-up between this and some other young vintages, and decided to go for this upon the advice of the sommelier team.
Interesting Coche for me: this wasn't really showing some of the signature flint, gunpowder, matchstick aromatics that I have come to look for and love. That being said, it was still an excellent village Meursault, drinking above its category in richness whilst exhibiting very bright and lively acidity. It might not be the best Coche, but this is still always a treat!
I'd be interested to see how this evolves over time, as it definitely has the capacity to age. Perhaps revisit this in 5+ years, just to see how it's doing.

Nose: gunflint, burnt matchstick, mango, passionfruit, sesame, bread crumbs, caramel, white chocolate Notes: opened for 2 hours when started drinking. Quite intense and explosive on the nose, the combination of gunflint, toast and tropical fruit is really attractive. Nevertheless, the palate of the wine is rather anticlimactic as it's rather big and slightly unbalanced. I don't think this is impossible to drink now but perhaps 2-3 years more would make it better. Drink: 2027+ Rating: 89

Thursday at P90. Like the Roulot 19 this needed some oxygenation to hit top gear, but when it got there, it was quite the show; open knit and wide open with just the right amount of opulence. Gunflint, lemon puff, yellow peach, toasted malt, building up to a saliva inducing saline finish. Ripe yes but none of that excessive 18 heat.

Decanted for 1 hour. Tropical fruit, white peach and some spice and light floral elements on the nose. No flinty fireworks, atypical with Coche. Dry and chalky palate, still tightly wound, taut and muscular with compressed orchard fruit elements.

Decanted. Quite sharp and flinty without much body and too much linearity, not quite balanced or fat. Perhaps a negocient bottle? Good but not great. 92-93

Lovely rich fruit, with plenty of signature Coche reduction. Flinty, pop corn, and lots of acid. This definitely tastes like Coche, but I’d say this bottle is merely very good and not great.

Tasted blind. Initially closed and a bit disjointed, lots of fruit, acidity not well integrated. It developed well with air and the parts came together, flinty notes mixed with lemon curd. Good, but not a great Coche, the warm 2018 vintage is noticeable.

Coche are the masters of preserving freshness when it comes to ripe vintages and this is case in point. Ripe peach fruit have a gentle candied quality, but are underpinned by so much sappy dry extract. There are light florals and plenty of minerality. It has real presence and such persistence, finishing with verve and vitality. Stood up well in between a superb 1er Cru and stonkingly good Grand Cru.

Nose: butter, sesame, tropical fruits, pear, banana, brioche, hints of smoke, almond, green apple Notes: quite a steely and mineral palate. Medium bodied with excellent and smooth feel of mineralities. Comparing to his wines from the early 00s I feel that the new wines have evolved even further and the strong minerality would not overdominate the rest of the palate which I consider quite an upgrade from before. Nevertheless, I maintain my view that no matter how good the maker is I still think the that the grading of the grapes might matter more than the maker so the best makers can certainly make very good village wines but would not possess the complexity of a grand cru or 1er cru purely due to excellent wine making. Having said so this is nonetheless an excellent white and even though its quite young it is still approachable after some breathing in the bottle. The wine for sure has many years of life ahead of it. Drink from 2028 onwards. Drink: 2028+ Rating: 90

2018 White Burgundy and 2008 Dujac: A disappointing bottle, that was rated last in our flight of five 2018 Meursault. A shame, as a bottle last year was terrific.

Hospice de Beaune Final Dinner (Beaune): A properly hedonistic wine. Characteristic reductive aromas of gunflint and sulfur. Tropical fruits and beautiful acid. A complete wine with well-defined character. Not overripe.

The bottle had been open for at least 30 minutes when I poured a glass. The nose was open for business - matchstick, petroleum, orchard fruit, maybe a little wood. The palate was good with a nice balance and decently long finish. Still on the way up.

Decanted. Initially, mute, linear, and thin. After about 30 minutes, this began to open up such that it became enjoyable. Moderate+ aromas of fresh orchard fruit and lemon (no matchstick detected). At times, you could smell this from 2’ away. Moderate+ flavors of lemon rind and orchard fruit, with a ton acidity, and a long-long-lingering finish of underripe lemon, touch of caramel, and the slightest hint of a savory nut (not oxidative), maybe sesame. A ton of power. Admittedly, still way too young and you’re better to wait several years+. 93-95.

Extremely young - tight, intense, no signs of the vintage her, just a clear cut wine with a great core of fruit. I guessed Puligny here, as you often do with the new style og Meursault. Wait 5+ years for this. #Sonne

Drank too young. Light, lacking weight. Decent energy and vibrancy but doesn’t show a ton of potential. Balanced and correct. No Coche reductive signature.

As is typical, 2018 Coche Meursault performs well above it's village level. While this bottle was opened very early in the evening and disappeared quickly, everyone had a smile on their face! Will revisit soon.

Clean crystal light as water with little hue of green yellow, shy nose of lemon, flint, crispy palate of clean structure but shallow and close mouth feel. Far too young as compared to the other older vintage of this wine. I opined to open it 5-8 years from now.

矿物苦味收尾,very long finish
