I discovered this wine with 2016 vintage and loved it. This 2017 was good, but as outstanding as the 2016, and the 2017 is more expensive. Still a good Corvina wine.

2Loyal and others here have this right - easy drinking, mid-week quaff that goes well with a bowl of pasta or pizza. PnP'd. Fair amount of funk on the open, so give that some time to blow off. Red berries and tar. Medium bodied, round finish. Primary in every respect, but great QPR at $13.

PNP. Excellent QPR. Moderate color with significant clarity. Subtle spice on the nose. Acidity is softening and tannins softly grip the palate. Red fruit notes on the palate.

An old friend, I hadn't had a Palazzo della Torre for many years, and this (L20129) was a wonderfully reassuring experience. Dark color, black and blue fruit aromas, cherry and bitter cherry flavors, remarkably complex aromatic profile for a wine in this price range, plenty of extraction but not a New World fruit bomb by any stretch, thanks to its excellent acidity and a perfect 13.5% alcohol. Excellent QPR.

Med. dark, soft right from the start but rounds out and softens more with some time breathing. Lovely balance and richness but not super heavy or concentrated. But 2nd bottle seemed more harsh - it didn't breathe first, but it never really seemed to soften. Lowering from 90 to 87. Need to retry with breathing.

This wine has a beautiful deep blackberry hue and scents of blackberry, black cherry and a touch of nutmeg. The same flavors come across the palate followed by a mid-palate taste of smoky oak and mild integrated tannins with a lively burst of alcohol accompanied by black fruit and a smooth deep oak finish. For the price (under $20), this is a wonderfully enjoyable wine.
It paired nicely with homemade lasagna.

Repurchase of a new vintage @ Costco 13.5% abv - $13
Served after a one-hour decant with Turkey & Dressing with Sweet Potatoes.
An Italian Ripasso-style wine (double fermented); fresh grapes refermented on Amarone skins. Dark red on the pour with mixed red fruit on the nose. Cherry, vanilla and pepper on the palate. Medium-bodied, soft tannins leave a slight fuzzy tooth feel. The style may not be for everyone; a still, dry wine, yet giving an impression of sweetness from the fruit. Not quite as full-bodied as the 2016 vintage, there is a hint of bitterness on the finish.

Lots of cherry on the nose, with smokey oaked spice of cloves and cinnamon and coffee. Palate has more cherries, good acidity, a little dried fruit, smooth tannins and a nice compact finish. Well worth seeking out to try and #giveanewwineago #burgundynick available nationwide. I got mine @harrogatewines for £22.99 although they've sold out now, sadly. 87 points

Light purple. Plummy aromas with deep currants and lots of roasted red peppers, violets, tar and tobacco. Full and suave, with moderate acidity, and flavors of saucy black cherries and blueberries. Pepper, jerky, tobacco, tar, nice complexity in here. Reliably good stuff here.

When all hope seemed lost amidst the Sea Island Piggly Wiggly's stacked shelves of overpriced and overmarketed mediocrity, this old friend from 15 years ago appeared and saved the day. For $22, it's good juice, with some provocative licorice and tar that gives weight and complexity to what one might expect would be a simple wine. For less than $20, it's a real bargain in world wine.

Allegrini tasting with Giampietro Tinazzo (West London Wine School Zoom tasting): 13.5% this has been a single vineyard release since 1974. 40% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 25% Rondinella, 5% sangiovese. 30% of the grapes are dried for around 2 months, but not the sangiovese. Only just medium body, the nose has some smoke and depth, dried red fruits and a little spice, vanilla and blueberry, nice length, darker fruit on the palate, this has a 2nd fermentation when adding the must from the dried grapes. 14 months in oak

Italian Wines with Baked Ziti at Karen's House (Princeton, NJ): Red and dark fruits, violets, leather and lots of licorice on the finish. I liked the wine -- and it was a good pairing with the baked ziti -- but I have preferred other vintages a little better. Or perhaps just better with some bottle age.
