  • Wow, what a colour for a Spatlese, rich, gold bullion! Extraordinary, complex, nose of ripest mangos, sweet butter, orange blossom, marmalade, toffee and touch of cinnamon. All the above flavours and more on the hugely opulent, almost viscous palate including mixed red/white summer berries, toffee apples, mixed, sweet, spices and fresh, liquid, honey. Throughout, plenty of acidity to bring harmony and perfect balance to the almost endless finish. Yet another Donnhoff masterpiece in not the easiest of years to get everything just right for top flight Riesling. Just magnificent and, if tasted blind, I would've sworn it was at least an Auslese+. Bravo!

  • Excellent. Agree with other recent tasting notes. Can likely go much longer but no reason to wait.

  • Cellaraid Discovery Box; 5/19/2017-5/26/2021 (Delivered to Home): Deep, starlight golden hue. Aromas of honeycomb, ripened apples, and a hint of petrol. A pretty good amount of acid that adds to the freshness, medium sweet, and some thickness, with flavours of overripe peaches, and even slightly creamy, as well as a honeyed character that might suggest some effects of noble rot. Fair finish

  • Golden and gorgeous. Creamy fruit, honey, Smokey minerals, and orange rind. There’s the beginnings of petrol but it’s quite faint. Drink now for textured primary fruit or hold for a few more years for more petrol and everything that comes with it.

  • Medium deep to deep gold, rich nose with an almost toffee-like edge, sweet lemon cream pie - that theme carries through on the palate, both in terms of flavour (although it does not come across as being very sweet) as well as texture, as it is almost creamy- has ample acidity to hold it all together, and it finishes with a brisk tang and is quite long, a wine that can be sipped very slowly and savoured- the finish features a mineral edge, and a slightly smoky nuance as well. Delicious, and while fully mature, I think it will rest on this plateau for a long while. Great wine.

  • Cork crumbled when opening, no ah-so on hand at restaurant so we dealt with the floaters. Color was very much bronzed and there were some faint oxidative nuances of the palate. Madiera, faint walnut, etc. Still, not as much as the color would have had you surmise. Plenty of fruit and sweetness left but this wine is over the hill and fading.

  • Probably past it's prime. Intense, sweet, slightly syrupy and maybe a bit flabby. Good balance, mouth watering acidity and long finish.

  • Exactly the same as last time tried 2+ years ago and still as good. Golden yellow in color. Nose of slate and peach. Beautiful balanced palate of honey, peach, a touch of lemon , minerals and a hint of petrol. Not overly sweet. Wonderful with spicy Chinese fare.

  • Showed much better than prior bottle. Cork was intact and although the color was still much darker than I expected, it was better than the last bottle. Lemon, lime and pear on the nose. Medium bodied and still a bit above many spatleses, but not into auslese territory. Lemon and peach upfront, backed with lime and pear. This showed considerably more complexity and definition of fruit than did the prior bottle. Finishes with good richness and mineral qualities. The acidity throughout gave a backbone and added some real life on the finish. Clearly, my bottle last week was oxidized due to a compromised cork and this is the real deal. Has the weight, fruit and acidity to continue to age and show well.

  • Cork broke in half and then completely crumbled when I tried to take it out. Color seemed very advanced; a bronze, nearly orange shade of gold. Lime and peach on the nose with lime, pear and peach flavors. Some acidity on the finish. Tasted blind, I might have guessed a much older Auslese, as it was sweeter than I was expecting and had less acidity but also seemed to be much older than it actually was. Came across as an old, faded sweet wine with declining fruit and little acidity left. I suspect the cork was compromised and therefore won't score it. I may try the other bottle sooner rather than later just to see where this wine actually is. Hopefully, this wasn't representative.

  • Opened & brought to temp for 30 min before serving. Slightly advanced color, but no oxidative qualities. The nose is a blast of lime zest, stone fruit & orchard fruit. The palate is seduced by waves of peach & pear with a texture that saddles creamy & rich but stops perfectly short of being too much. The acidity is spot on & keeps the ample fruit balanced. The wine is quite fresh, yet brings the intensity. Excellent.

  • Included in a church fundraiser wine-tasting. Deep gold color. Tasted like an Auslese or higher ripeness. We were giving letter grades at the tasting and I gave it an A-minus but in retrospect I would lower that to a B. It tasted cloying to my taste with not enough acid to balance the sweetness. One of the more experienced wine connoisseurs at the tasting gave it a C. Others liked it because it was sweet.

  • My notes may not due this wine justice, as they seem to lacking in the profile of the fruit and jsut how good it is

med+intensity on the nose some nice tropical fruits with a dash of petrol, with med dry sweetness, high acid, full body, meD+ intensity, long finish. Has that delicious golden fruit that only riesling can do, some spice

conc: Pretty awesome, seamless, together, and rich

  • Chicago Riesling Summit 2011 (Sun Wah BBQ, Chicago, IL): Lovely aromas of grilled peaches drizzles with honey. The taste of green tea on the palate is unique and undeniable. Also rich with characteristic honey, but slightly less acidity than the Norheimer Kirschheck.

  • 2 bottles, consistent notes. Mid straw witha touch of green. Floral, citrus, esp grapefruit on the nose. Cleaner and more minerally initially when compared to the Oberhauser Brucke. Fat, ripe, tropical fruit, good acidity and a genrous thwack of RS on the finish. With air this is clearly leaner and I think more minerally than the Brucke. Lovely. ****

  • Starting to show some signs of development with a deeper colour and petrol and creamy notes framing the bright peachy and tropical fruit. There's plenty of sweetness here, with some honeyed and spicy aspects hinting at a little botrytis, but it's very nicely balanced with a glossy, polished texture and enough acidity to keep it light on its feet and very elegant.

  • Heavy steel like nose. Palate is expressive good weight. Sweetness of the wine is well balanced with the acid. Long finish as well

  • This was awesome. Unlike the Gunderloch Spatlese (see note) drank the other night all the components were in perfect balance. Certainly some sweetness but so much other stuff going on you barely notice its there. Really oily texture but the acid keeps the palate razor sharp. Very pure Lemon and mineral scents the only thing wrong was it was too young. Gives some idea of where its going and would love to see in another ten years. Fabulous.

  • Orange peel, citrus fruit, sweet honey, exotic spices and a hint of wet stones on the expressive nose. Ripe yellow fruit, citrus peel, stones, smoky slate, sweet honey and searing acidity on the intense, deep and long palate. Tasted after decanting. Impressive wine, only 8% alcohol, good qpr.

  • Fantastic baby. Loads of baby fat with a cut of Key Lime pie beneath it. Pure hedonism at this stage. Not really showing its true nuance yet.

  • appears beautiful mellow gold, few clinging spritz, smell bright chipper, apricot and spiced chutney, beautiful bright almost herbal/spice element, taste wonderful light dollop of acid or minerality upfront, light elegance, much lighter than nose would suggest, a trickling waterfall of flavors, killer, light on its feet, an almost saffron feel with intensity yet lightness, I keep expecting this wine to be heavier, but no, intensity-lightness, intensity-lightness, back and forth, stunning

  • TN from day two, day one the wine was very tight.

A light golden in color, with beautiful floral notes, fine but not overpowering minerals, and limes. On th epalate, there is a sweetness that I would call honey, but it is not that dense. Transparent, lithe and pretty on the palate, lacking the verve of Hermannshohle or Kupfergrube. Round and nonetheless still very pleasing on the palate with well hidden acidity, that for sure is present but not biting at all. White fruits and almost like a fresh crunched blueberry type fruit on the back end. Less intense than its neighbors, but a very fine glass of wine, that was far too young day one, and drinking very well, albeit primary, today. A perfect apertif. 91 pts

  • Pale gold colour. This has a delightful nose that keeps expanding with time to show red fruits, peach, flowers and some earthiness with softer notes of honey and spice. In the mouth this doesn't have the serene elegance of the 05 or 04 - instead this is broad, intense and very forward with plenty of sweetness, and just drenches the palate with ripe peach, citrus and cherry flavours. Good acidity keeps it in balance and this has a tremendously long finish with the incredibly bright fruit flavours refusing to go away. Delicious.
