Decanted for 30 min. Dark ruby color with moderate+ concentration, pink rim and some light staining to the tears. Not a terribly expressive nose but there is some soy sauce/glaze, beef jerky, tobacco, black cherry n plum, turned earth also. After an hr plus there’s some dead leaves and a light poopy funk. Pnp. Deep plummy purple. Long legs. Tart red fruits, fresh garrigue, sandalwood and fresh tobacco on the nose. Medium bodied, good fruit extract, balanced alcohol and acidity, supple tannins. Very dry finish. Flavours of tangy red and black fruits with lots of skins, woody herbs, spicy oak tannins, black earth and hrape pomace. Tastey and young.

PnP. Deep, rich dark red. No signs of age; just of the melange of grapes. Lovely nose of black and red berries, dried red plum, robust fresh garrigue, black loam and mulch, and wet stones. Later on there is a touch of sandlewood at the end. Medium bodied, tangy juicy fruit, supple tannins, some squeeky oak influence and a moderately long finish. Flavours of juicy black and red berries, woody garrigue, mild oak spice, and a nice dry / tart finish. A little thin on the back palate, but a nice quaff!

A beautiful, harmonious wine. Decanting for three hours opened ‘er up nicely, and she’ll likely go for another decade. Under cork. Very dark plummy red in colour. Beautiful warm Southern Rhone nose! Gobs of sweet dark red fruit, plum, mulberry, sweet cherry, garrigue, fennel fronds, and toasted, chocolatey oak. Full bodied, sweet ripe fruit, cool alcohol, supple tannins and perfect acidity. Perfect alignment between the nose and the palate. The fruit is sweet, dark and ripe, yet has a a nice bitter edge to it. Great balance and body. My only slight quibble is that it finishes a little thin body-wise. Otherwise, a lovely, very tasty tipple! Easy 92 points

Opaque reddish-purple. Fragrant floral profile, with predominantly red cherry fruit, herbal, licorice and iodine notes. Intense red fruit on the palate finishing with ferocious tannins. Presented much better on day 2 when those tannins had settled down and provided a more pleasurable overall drinking experience. No denying the wealth of fruit here but it needs several more years in the cellar or a very long decant to get at it. Lots to look forward to, especially considering the price.

This wine has a medium ruby color and is clear without sediment. On the nose it is bright red cherry with some spice and a faint fleshy meat under tone. On the palate, bright and juicy red fruit are up front with a fine white pepper in the mid palate. The finish is medium in length. This is a nicely balanced wine. I would like to see what this looks like in another 5 years. I’ll set another bottle down and read this then!

PnP. Deep maroon reddish black. Nice and clear, but with great depth of colour. Youthful and exuberant nose of crushed red and black berries, fresh garrigue, sandalwood, graphite, coco nibs and a floral note as well on the nose. Fresh and fruity yet with depth and complexity at the same time. Very inviting and intriguing! Medium-full bodied, good acidity, sandy tannins, lots of fruit extract and just a little bit hot on the finish. All the elements are there bit are not integrated yet. Similar flavours as on the nose with red and black berries, sandlewood, more herbal than garrigue flavours, minerals and an overall sweet / savoury flavour profile. Quite lovely, but too young. Good bow but will be something special in 3 or 4 years. 90 points now with lots of upside potential.

A wine which rarely disappoints and one which punches above its weight. Aromas of dark berry, cassis, blackcurrant, dark fruit compote, fresh herbs, tobacco and all spice. The palate is rich and energetic with dark lush fruit, along with crushed stones, dried herbs, tannins are rich yet finally grained, good mid-palate concentration finishing spicy.

Savoury, slightly baked red over black fruit with an earthy underpin. Juicy, fleshy, tight, slightly chalky tannins are a little too much for the dark and savoury fruit, travels long helped by a little alcohol warmth. Hmm

Needs to be served slightly cool, as the plump riper Vintage is a bit hot at room temp. Fleshy rip red fruits and some blacks mixed in. With air, seems to firm up and show more tannin which seems to bode well for the future. This vintage is a bit more glossy and polished, lacking the spice and savage notes of a more rustic wine.

Note made about 6 hours after opening, a few pulls on the old fella, no decant (of the wine) and scored on the CT scale as 'Excellent'. This wine is sometimes described as 'Baby Beaucastel'; let us hope it is not 'Bogus Beaucastel'.
As with so many of the 2019 reds from the Rhone, the colour seems deeper than usual, promising much heft.
On the nose we have a wine that brings immediate thoughts of the Beaucastel CdP. It isn't quite as fine, but like its illustrious older sibling, there is real alure and grace with power. Floral elements, cherry and raspberry and some strong earthy/smokey characters and I detect some cinnamon. The latter elements are more prominent than on the CdP and I don't get the lovely blueberry notes I got on the CdP.
The palate is more rustic than the CdP, but there is excellent length, real intensity and it is fresh and vibrant despite the hot year. The tannins tend to the heroic, but they are ripe. You are getting a whole lot of wine here.
The wine is certainly not bogus - it is really first rate Cotes du Rhone. It probably merits the term 'Baby Beaucastel' but don't push that too far. It is a clear step down but still very good. If you lacked the cash, this would be a fair alternative to the real thing. But then, if you lack the cash, why not try crime? Don't accept second best. I suppose there would also always be politics, law or business as means to make the needed funds, but each of these are tedious and inevitably involve having to pretend to like people and that is almost a crime itself. Tootle pip!

Loads of red, blue, and purple berries on the bouquet and palate, with berry liqueur, violets, and sweet herb to notes. Also showing excellent earth and mineral substance, along with medium to medium plus acid and stalwart tanninc grip. High saturation, plush, velvety, and well balanced.
Unlike the 2016, which packed the substance to age, this should be enjoyed over the next five to seven years. Solid QPR.

Missed out on the 2018 due to COVID so very glad to see the 2019 arrive in the shelves of the LCBO! Beautifully rich mulberry colour; very dark and dense. Pretty young, yeasty nose when first popped and poured, but air reveals gobs of red and black fruits, maraschino cherry, garrigue, leather, fresh tobacco leaf and spice. Just lovely! Tangy blend of acid and tannins hits your tongue first, followed by good fruit extract, medium full body and a touch of heat at the end. The flavours are all in the red and black fruit spectrum, pronounced oak, underlying garrigue and spice. Long finish. All the components are there but they're no where near integrated just yet. Needs a few years to settle down and mellow out. But will then be an excellent Baby Beau!

From a vineyard 12 feet away from the official appellation, this offering is a very good value at its $30 tariff. Horse blanket and cherry pit in the nose and then awash in dark pitted fruits with a lusty licorice and leather finish. Medium to full bodied with rounded tannins. Shows off the vintage’s more lusty, fruit forward nature. Benefits from time in the glass. But drinking well today. When you don’t want to spend $120 on a Beaucastel. Drink now to 2031. Outstanding when you consider the price point.

The flavours are all in the red and black fruit spectrum, pronounced oak, underlying garrigue and spice. Long finish. All the components are there but they're no where near integrated just yet. Needs a few years to settle down and mellow out. But will then be an excellent Baby Beau!

Liked it. So did Sabine. Not quite as much as Châteauneuf-du-Pape

An excellent match with the French meal of Cassoulet. I decanted it and it opened nicely.

Crushed cherry/blueberry fruit nose with some stony minerality. Medium-full bodied, dry and tightly wound palate; abrupt finish. The 2019 is built more around the structure than the flavour. Needs time.

Delicious, mouth-filling and rich. Modest Acidity and muted tannins. Lots of dark fruit and CDP at a fraction of its big brother’s price. Always a great deal.

Not particularly special. Drinks well but maybe needs some time in the bottle. Did not trick me for beaucastel like I was hoping.

Warm stone, blueberry, granite, sous bois and raspberries. A medium-long finish; the body is medium to full. This could actually use a little more age, but the tannins are seamless - they truly are. Lovely profile. Drink 2023 - 2033.

Garrigue, pepper, cherries, and thyme are all over the place here. On the palate, the wine is fresh, medium-bodied, vibrant, and juicy with a kick of peppery kirsch in the finish. GIve it 2 years or so to soften and fully come together.
