Lots of notes on this wine. Drinking well now. Open tasted , vacuumed and left for a day. The second day this wine was more integrated. Starts with a slight plum nose. This has a beautiful sweetness, tastes of earthiness, plum, cherry, fig,and tobacco. Good length. Excellent wine that'll soften and exhibit more flavours with time. Comment about scoring...for me to score this at such a young age does not make any sense. This is built to age even thought for me it is reasonably accessible now.. If you like your wines young this may not be for you. If you have experience with this producer and are drinking this early to get an appreciation for how it will age and its current evolution then that makes sense to me. To critic this as not a good wine at this age seems harsh unless its flawed.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like raspberry, red currant, fig, prune, meaty, cedar and tar. It tastes like strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, tar, meaty, fig and prune. The body is medium. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

I was amazed at how ripe, concentrated and balanced this wine is. There is lots of ripe black cherries, blueberries, plums, blackberries, spices, sweet oak and chocolate. Both the high levels of alcohol and the generous oak are perfectly integrated and the wine hits the sweet spot between opulence, concentration, fruit, spice, oak, secondary and primary notes, hedonistic yet fresh fruit and mineral notes. Highly recommended.

Powerful but not hot and heavy, well rounded tannins, dark cherry ice cream, cassis, chocolate notes and vanilla background. Very drinkable now but with a couple more years of age it will be stunning.

Purchased at Pappas Steakhouse Houston. Classic Ribera del Duero flavors with the new American Oak. Pricey at a steakhouse but fantastic at retail. Will seek out for the cellar. My favorite of the 14, 15 & 17 vintages.

New vintage of Alion - young, austere, lovely. Dark red-purple in the glass. Nose displays cherries, black olives, spice, cassis, earth, hints of chocolate. Palate is full-bodied, grippy tannic structure, well-balanced acidity, v juicy, great complexity. Tannic-dry, spicy and juicy finish. Aired for three hours. Keep.

Vega Sicilia smakk og kvöldverður á Hótel Edition (Hótel Edition): Frá Toro færðum við okkur til Ribera del Duero. Byrjuðum á Alión. Mjög dökkt á litinn. Frekar lokað í nefi. Krydd, mjög dökkir tónar, beikon, fita, reykur. Einnig var nefnt kakó. Síðan eftir smá stund í glasi bættust við mandarína og sætir tónar, marsípan. Fínasti ilmur. Á tungunni talsverð tannín, enda ungt vín til þess að gera. Mjög þægilegt. Léttara en ilmurinn gefur til kynna. Bláber, ekvalyptus, súkkulaði, kaffi. Nett eik. Mjög mikill ferskleiki og alveg tilbúið til drykkjar. Mjög fínt jafnvægi. Mjög fínt vín.

Not decanted. Consumed over 2 days. Well what can I say? Normally I really like the Alion. This vintage (or bottle?) was not that impressive. The first day too much alcohol and too ripe (88-89 pts.). It was much better the second day. Everything seemed more in balance 91(-). pts.

Opened for 1.5 hours. Color is deep ruby with purple notes and quite opaque. On the nose: Plum, Cassis, chocolate, vanilla and some vegetal notes. On the palate: Plum , cinnamon, cassis and chocolate . Very smooth. Young and needs time. Big wine.

Smoky cassis.
Ripe.
Obviously oaky.
Maybe 2 years ago I would have really liked this style.
I now prefer more subtlety.
Have always wanted to try this producer but probably won't seek it out anymore.

Drank at La Violeta in Ponferrada. Modern styled. Ripe rich but not over the top. No noticeable heat but maybe a bit weighty. 15% etoh.

Highly concentrated and powerful wine. Will surely move to 93+ in 5 years. At El PARAGUAS in Madrid.
We had 904 from 2011 several times at Aarde and Amazonico - their sister restaurants, and my feeling was that it was just as good.
