I don’t generally love waxy textures so I’m glad this wasn’t overly so. Very flavorful with a mix of stonefruit, orange, honeysuckle, and tropical fruit. It’s pretty well balanced but a bit too floral for my taste.

Not at the level of the excellent 2017 and 2018 that both seriously overdelivered but another decent value white from Guigal. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Classic nose of orange blossom, roasted peach, apricot, pineapple and salty citrus. The palate is quite broad and rich but lacks a little clarity, depth and definition. There is good acidity and freshness leading into finish but it comes up a touch short and I do get a bit of heat from the 14.5% alc. There is also a touch of bitterness that starts to intrude, however this is a reliable summer quaffer that I would happily consume at a BBQ or gathering.

Super Rhone Saturday 2017 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Peach, bees wax, slight herbal underpin and a smidge of apricot, floral top notes. Juicy, savoury, served quite cold so the fruit is muted on the palate, a little texture, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm

Actually not that bad - still, not quite my style of wine. The nose is driven by it’s straight forward fruity notes of stonefruit, apricots and sweet ripe pearjuice. The taste is big and voluminous with high alcohol and low acidity. 78 points…

In appearance, a light gold with 14.5% alcohol legs! The nose is medium , and a mix of white flowers, apricot and peach, hints of tropical fruit like guava and mango, coconut, and fragrant honey. On the palate, smooth and creamy, with flavours of peach, honey, and dry marzipan. Acidity is low with a slight prickle of bitter alcohol. Maybe a little light and one-dimensional, a pleasant and versatile wine , that represents sound value.

Aromas of stone fruit, a little apricot, bees wax and a little dusty spice. Juicy, fleshy, slight mid palate grip, stone fruit and fruit stone bitterness, waxy texture, alcohol a little intrusive on the finish.

Friday at the strand (Strand Cellars, Croydon): bees wax, stone fruit, slightly honeysuckle, apricot, alcohol lends a touch of spice. Juicy, fleshy, apricot, waxy then alcohol takes over, a little textured grip on the mid palate. Hmm.

Muddled and lacking any sense of direction. This wine appears to have been made by combining every white Rhone grape they could find and jamming all of them together, which yielded less than impressive results. Perhaps using the individual grapes to make individual wines would have been a better choice?

Medium gold in color. White peach, pear, tropical fruit, honey, citrus, and flowers on the nose. Peach and tropical fruit on the palate. Medium-low acidity, and dry with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Green apple and wax on a medium-short finish.

60% Viognier, 15% Roussanne, 10% Marsanne, 8 % Clairette, 5% Bourboulenc, 2% Grenache blanc. Best Cotes du Rhone Blanc from E. Guigal. Intense, fragrant, floral. Lesser version of Condrieu, but maybe as good. First glass is 92/100. If you want to appreciate the Viognier for much less, this is it.

Seeing the title of this post, your mind might be thinking of that 2016 movie of the same name starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, but in the world of wine, it can only refer to one thing; the La La wines of E. Guigal from the Côte-Rôtie region of the Rhone Valley.
Unfortunately for me, those three wines ("La Mouline," "La Turque," and "La Landonne”) are far from this writer’s budget. What I did find that was much more in the realm of possibility was this nice little Côtes du Rhône Blanc from the same producer.
E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2019
Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, and initially focused on the Northern Rhone, this winery has expanded over the years to now include both the Northern and Southern regions of the Rhone Valley with the domain being made up of numerous exceptional vineyards: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, and Crozes-Hermitage.
Guigal has taken white wine production seriously. While only 2% of wine production in the Rhone is white wine, Guigal’s white wine production is 25%. This wine being a blend of 60% Viognier, 15% Roussanne, 10% Marsanne, 8% Clairette, 5% Bourboulenc, and 2% Grenache Blanc; the wine taking its lead from the Northern Rhone’s usage of Viognier. To keep the wine fresh and more fruit-driven, the wine is fermented in only stainless steel, there is no oak aging of the wine even though in 2003 the winery began its own barrel making.
The wine itself was to show that brightness and crisp acidity along with stone fruit, a touch of almond, minerality, and wrapped in a subtle creaminess throughout. In this particular case, while I generally like more Grenache Blanc in my Rhone whites, the predominance of Viognier was an absolute winner in my book. Adding to the value of the wine was the sale allowing me to purchase this outstanding example at only $12.99. Methinks I should return to the store!
As much as I would love to avail you of reviews of their most prestigious “La La” wines, for now, I will have to settle on watching the movie.
Cheers

As I said earlier, Guigal's wines are stable and understandable wines. This sample is full of quality wine with clear characteristics.
Color: pale straw with greenish tints. Aroma: pleasant stone fruits (apricot, pear, peaches), as well as a little tropics (mango and pineapple) with mineral notes. Taste: rather deep and fruity, due to the prevalence of Viognier the wine is light and drinkable.

What a pleasant wine this was. Flower notes on the nose. Pale yellow color. On palate I experienced honey, grapefruit, lemon, Granny Smith apple. Finish medium, but crisp. Drank it at night with family pairing with of all things a taffy apple.

Serviceable, well-made Côtes du Rhône blanc but nothing special. 60% Viognier, 15% Roussanne, 10% Marsanne, 8% Clairette, 5% Bourboulenc, 2% Grenache blanc — a true "mutt".

Very good.
It's full bodied and oily, leading with viognier apricot, almond and a slight touch of tropical (banana).
Concludes with ginger and white pepper tannins, and bitter apricot kernel.
Don't drink too cold, it's complexity and length really shines once it approaches cellar temperature.
