The 2005 Jean Noel Gagnard seems to be showing early signs of premox (and no, a 1er cru Chassagne shouldn't collapse at age ten), showing a deep amber-gold colour, and nose of marmalade, banana and lots of new oak poking through. On the palate the wine is beginning to crack up, with a curtailed finish. There is none of Cailleret's mineral signature here.

From Magnum. Lovely young white burgundy, showing the vintage, terroir and producer very well. A little richness / sweetness from the vintage perfectly balanced with the minerals, fruits and herbs. Classic earthy Chassagne, this is drinking well now but I can only think that it will improve with time

Casual (Mostly) Burg Dinner with Friends (Paris Club - Chicago IL): Not much pleasure here tonight, ok fruit, bitter on finish. Clearly something wrong with this bottle, but tough to say the exact problem. Well devoid of fruit vs previous bottles, but not corked. Possibly heat damaged, but not stewed.

green apple, intense minerality and excellent balance are the hallmark of this wine and this is a nice vintage, though probably a little young. long, long finish.

Tight for 15-20 minutes, then bloomed with powerful green apple, lime water, big wash of minerals, clove oak. Food friendly. Lots of time left for this one.

Elegant, intense and explosive with rich apple and a peach undertone. This wine is closed when first opened, approachable at 15 minute and amazing at 2 hours.

On opening it is sharper, distinctively masculine with an undertone of petrol. Within 10 minutes the green apple, elegance and minerality that are her hallmarks emerge, eventually building to long clean but almost cremate finish. She is my favorite winemaker in Chassagne.

Had at home with salmon with mojito marinade, mushroom risotto, grilled asparagus with soy sauce and sesame seeds, black bean soup.
Pale golden. Aromas evolve with sandlewood, acorn pulp, juicyfruit, whtie flowers, white peach, honey, and cold cream. Very lithe, medium body. This sort of slides across the palate, almost like a gentle ocean surf with subtle waves of flavor. White fruit, crushed stones, pomelo, dried banana, some stemmy character. Complex but I think this needs a bit of time to really come together to show its best.

Mid colour; ripe nose, quite tropical with hints of banana. Full-flavoured on the nose, ripe banana, some vanilla. Decent but I prefer the 04, more mineral and better line. ***

Drank at Davies Wine Tasting Evening
A beautiful way to start an evening. Lots of fruit in the nose green apple and gooseberry. Has a great length and finish.
Can last another 3-5 years but is drinking now
Took a while to open up and needs time in the decanter

Caillerets Shoot-out: Puligny vs. Chassagne - Part 1 of L2O Dinner (L2O - Chicago IL): Tasted single blind. Lots of fresh apple flavors with a reasonable trace of lemon zest on the end. Good spice and good flavors elements as well. Very clean, high energy wine, a real thrill for a 2005.
