  • Raspberry nose with pronounced red rose aromas and a slightly sour "natural wine" funkiness. Red raspberry and red cherry palate is precise and polished, delivering a single, harmonious note, holding it for 8-10 seconds, and then flowing into the the finish of medium tannins, cranberry, light earth, and lighter red floral notes. It's a "feminine" wine that chooses balance and a focus on the fruit over complexity and power. A pleasure to drink on its own right now.

  • I was a bit disappointed with this bottle, given the high expectations I had for the "N" bottling. On opening, this was just.... flabby. Not very focused, and fairly soft. I sadly chalked it up to bottle variation, recorked, and put it back in the cellar.

It improved noticeably the next day, but still on the ripe side. Overall I'd say it's a decent wine, but not one I'd buy again, which is a shame considering I usually love Lapierre's Morgon. I have a few more bottles and I am curious to find out whether this was an off bottle or not.

  • coravined glass after finishing up some great Clos de la Roilette. a clear departure into next level... vibrant and charming from the second the cork is pulled (the perfume!) through the finish.

almost through a case and no brett bombs or otherwise flawed.

  • Trying my second bottle of N and it’s still too bretty for my liking. Upon initial pour, I get the classic mousy character, and as the wine gets air the band-aid qualifies emerge. While it’s not as pronounced in this bottle as my last one, I still have a hard time getting beyond the brettiness.

A little Brett adds character but it’s a fine line. Perhaps I’m more on the sensitive side.

  • Bigger, richer, and darker than usual for Lapierre. Lacks that Gamay brambliness of a cooler year, but not alcoholic or hot. Black tilted fruit with licorice drop (a little unusual this). A bit of brett, moderate tannin. Very good.

  • Light red, not crystal clear. Forward herb and red fruit nose. Lighter weight with soil running throughout. Lively strawberry and orange peel just invites you back for one juicy, refreshing sip after another. No tannins of note, but the earth reverberates on the finish. Delicious.

  • I’ll admit that on day 1 on pop and pour I wasn’t a fan of this wine and had no idea how I’d finish the bottle. The fruit was just a touch too intense / confected and the concentration is noticeably higher than the 2019. Like drinking pure fruit juice. Not terribly candied like 2017 but just a lot of focus on intense red fruit. There is a bit of heat on the finish too. On day 2 it calmed down some and I drank it colder than cellar temp from the fridge. With these adjustments I rather enjoyed it and the bottle disappeared quickly. The fruit purity is wonderful and crystalline. As tasty as it was on day 2, this is not a rebuy for me. Makes me a bit worried about my other Lapierre cuvées from 2020, as the other cuvées tend to be more concentrated than the base. I guess I should age them.

  • Beautiful showing again tonight. Ripe and fruity, yes, but a big ocean and landmass between here and California-ripe. The silky smooth texture makes it great.

  • Cherry, Blackberry jam, a bit of wet earth and pepper on the nose. Medium body with a velvet mouth feel and tart cherry and tea spice on the palate. Finishes dry and tart with a delicious fruity aftertaste. Awesome and delicious wine!

  • This is a challenging wine - overripe for my palate, verging on confected fruit, and remarkably low acid for that side of the pond. Probably good for a CA palate but not for this burghead. What a shame that these no longer taste like they did in the old days.

  • My first time with the sans soufre...the fruit is flat out GORGEOUS...fresh crushed raspberries and cherries...more candied and creamy than the tart pucker I'm use to with other young vintages of Lapierre Morgons...but in no way is this over ripe or flabby at all! More of a silky smooth young bottle of Pinot Noir...silky with finesse...there is plenty of bright cherry skin citrus nerve in this Gamay...wonderful florals, wild herbs, and dried citrus spices...smoked cherry wood...crushed granite and red licorice give a nice salinity...VERY silky and harmonious...reminds me of how great a toasted mult grained piece of bread, spread with creamy butter and raspberry jam together tastes...MMmmmmm! It's beautiful!

  • Annoyingly overripe, with the gamay fruit going past its typical pomegranate-ish flavors to take on a distinct candied sweetness that I don't enjoy. Quite a bit of stony tannin, but it can't change the candied quality of the fruit. Held up well on Day 2 but didn't improve. All these hot vintages have been tricky for Beaujolais.

  • Have had plenty of Lapierre Morgon over the years, but I’m pretty sure this is my first time with the unsulfured bottling. Utterly delicious. It does seem a little less structured to me, but off the charts freshness and juiciness. I plan to save a bottle for a side-by-side with the S when it’s released.

  • first bottle of the 2020. pretty different than the 2019 which i enjoy a lot but find somehow "moody"

there is an initial fruit-forward / bubblegum impression but it is almost immediately tempered by a spicy / peppery note that totally changes it into something a lot more complex (but still somehow cheerful)

  • Pretty but muted nose - cherries, stones, savory-herbal. Lovely cherries. The palate is really crunchy and snappy - needs to release its grip a bit. Lots of cherries, minerals, savory. high acid. tight cherry and savory finish. let's see how this opens up in the next day or two.

Day 3: This lovely with beautiful red cherries, savory herbs and minerals. Light and pure and very clear. Palate is crisp and crunchy with red cherries, savory game and herbs, stones - lots of acid. Light and pure. Finish is long with lots of game and stones. I really liked this but kept hoping it would open up a bit more - like the volume was down just a notch from what I wanted. Nose - 5/6, palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20.

  • Haven't had 2020 Cuvee S so I can't compare, but this might be the best Lapierre I've had.

Super generous, aromatic, with explosive cherry and cranberry fruit over a background of earth and crushed rocks. With air, the fruit becomes sweeter and and crunchier. Almost like biting into a freshly picked berries, pips and all. Finish is mineral, with soft acid and soft tannins. This is one to drink with friends.

  • Wow! It's singing beautifully and holding my attention so firmly that I refuse to pay enough attention to write detailed notes.

A bit of very fine sediment (and a ton of sadness) noticeable in emptied glasses

    That's the best I got! ;)

Compared to the sulfured 2020 Morgon (which was unimpressive, a bit generic, and reeked of a hot vintage) this is life

  • Very boisterous and joyful, juicy and glouglou. Shades darker and more woody-spiced than the S version.
