No contemporaneous notes. I was surprised by the deep golden color. Not a blockbuster, but elegant. Very balanced and delicious. Enjoyed by my friends. (90-91).

Great value! The nose is fairly focused, yielding a blend of citrus and tropical fruits (i.e., pineapple, grapefruit, guava, and lemon) melded with smoky mineral-laced notes on the nose. In the mouth, it is immediately ready to go, with only the slightest buttery notes delivered in a lush and expansive package of citrus fruits and minerals. The oak is well integrated and barely noticeable, while being wonderfully balanced, with a long, delicious, and fruit-driven finish. The QPR doesn't get much better, and currently drinking super well!

Quick decant. Nose of honeyed fruit and beeswax. Plush, viscous poached pear palate with lemon custard, white floral notes, and exotic spice. A note of bitterness leads the finish into preserved lemon, honeycomb, dried ginger, and cinnamon notes. Evolved quickly in the glass.

I think this needs another year or two in the bottle to soften the oaky/prickly edges. Definitely better now with food - bordering on full bodied, with medium yellow color. Even after two days in the fridge, it hasn’t softened as much as I’d have expected.

Had with sauted italian herb chicken, air fryer roasted potatos and fresh green beans from the garden.
14%, dark yellow in the glass. Muted pineapple, vanilla citrus on the nose. similar on the palate with added lemon curd and golden apple. Medium acid, roundish mouthfeel, but still comes across crisp. Some citrus pithe on the finish.
Good down the middle RRV profile that could be a crowd pleaser as well. I liked this at this price point. $35 on sale. This is the first Walter Hansel I have had, no compliants.
I bet this will be even better tomorrow.

This is my fave ‘19 W. Hansel Chard. It’s semi hedonistic, & quite tropical, but in the end it all works for me. New oak balanced with rich beautiful fruit & just enough structure to bring it together. A flavorful mouthful. 4 of 6 The ‘19 Estate is nice in the house style, but toned down a bit, & is maybe a hair brighter. The Alyce has a little too much new oak for me. I look forward to the 2020’s as Mr. Hansel said smoke taint did not affect the Chard.

Soft vanillin oak to be sure but also intense Chard fruit. Enough underlying acidity creates a luxurious, but tailored, mouthful of wine. CA in nature but well balanced. I am enjoying this over the next year+. It enhances roast chicken. Not Burgundian a bit, it still hits a niche for me. 3 of 6

Nose of melon & grapefruit w/nicely balanced legs. As wine opens in glass a beautiful flavorful aroma shows full fruit. Flavors of meyer lemon & tart melon. Nice round flavorful finish. Served with Brie appetizer & Parmesan chicken.

Not my style. Some nice fruit and minerality underneath the somewhat overpowering oak spice and caramel apple tones. Gave it an oxidative feel (not flawed) that felt stale.

Still early and glad I purchased a few others to compare down the road. The light tropical fruits are perfectly balanced with the amount of new oak.
