Decanted and drank. Deep, dark purple color, nose of dark fruit, tobacco and earth. The wine has lush dark fruit that coats the palate and has a long finish. Drinking beautifully.

Deep purple color...decanted for 90 minutes. Bouquet of blackberry, smoke, blood...the wine is still huge with some heat but very smooth and mouth coating. Long delicious finish.

Deep dark purple bordering on black in color. A big bold wine, nose and palate leave no question it's a syrah. Can PnP and it's ready to be enjoyed but holds up well and evolves a little over many hours. Has at least five years left in the tank.

This is a great wine. It has a powerful nose of crushed dark fruits and cassis and tobacco. A really plush and full mouthfeel with a long well balanced finish. Outstanding

- Crimsom color and aromas of blackberry, black currant, raisin, cherry and chocolate. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of cherry and vanilla - Serious, well made wine but it never quite opens up.

Syrah and Grenache at Blackstone Steakhouse (Blackstone Steakhouse Norwalk CT.): The Jonata was interesting but had a tough act to follow after a Sine Qua Non. This dialed back the power and aimed for finesse. Got a nice perfume of blueberry, blackberry and raspberry with really more of the same on the palate. Had a nice 45 second finish. Not a hard edge on this one and drinking really nice right now.

This wine surprised, but not on the positive side. Unrecognizable when compared wit my notes from 5 yrs ago. The "hot mess" quote is completely applicable. Tread cautiously with this one (won't make a good impression on your mother-in-law).

Decanted for an hour. After a string of old world wines, this came across as kind of a hot mess. Sweet blue fruits, big hit of alcohol on the nose. Very big and goopy on the palate.

These guys missed everything. Over-priced their wine into a falling market. But man, this is good stuff. Blue fruits, nice mouthfeel, relatively restrained and in a great place right now.

Very dark wine, with lots of fruit present. Well integrated tannins. Alcohol seems higher than the stated, which detracts from the otherwise pleasant med(+) finish.

Drank at the valley fair. This one wasn't corked but something was very off about it. The bouquet was fine but the taste was extremely sour. Even with time this didn't really settle down. Oh well.

I really enjoyed this wine a lot. I was a bit worried about the vintage and maybe alcohol but I didn't pick any up. As the wine sat, I enjoyed the dark color, not eof lavender, lots of blueberry and nice balanced palate and finish. Drank very well.

This is a beautiful full bodied berry-packed syrah with great texture and a long finish. Although it will last for a few more years,I don't think that there is a lot more lurking under the surface. Drink this one now all by itself while it's in all it's glory.

Deep, thick and blood red. This was popped and poured which was a shame because it was very closed. THis had typical syrah flavors and aromas. Nicely balanced and pleasurable to drink. It never quite opened up which was our fault. THis is one of those wines where you say - I think this is going to be great someday.

At the Plumed Horse with Lamb ribeye - Vigorously decanted for 90 minutes prior to drinking. Much less tannic that my last bottle a year ago but will need another 3 years to really start showing it's stuff I think. Extremely powerful syrah with notes of chocolate, lilac, and blackberry. Fantastic acidity that manages to make it seem lighter than it is, I really enjoyed this bottle and found it to be better than i remembered. I've had a lot of top shelf syrah lately including La Chapelle's, SQN's, and LaLa's and I think this could hang with them with just a little more bottle age.

Highly concentrated and primary. Big ripe fruit, moderate oak, well balanced but fiercely tannic. The huge tannins made it hard to evaluate but it seemed to have great material and I would expect it to improve over the next several years.

Huge extraction, fairly massive tannins and a touch of heat noticeable. Great dark fruit on the nose and palate with some integrated vanilla oak. Better then I expected, and will need another 5 years I think. Day two this wine became very simplistic, worries me a bit about its future.

These wines were almost unapproachable when initially opened, they were very big with tannins that came crashing down almost immediately. 30 hours later it was a different story, you could see what was laying behind that wall and it was all cassis, pepper and spice. Heady stuff, was looking around to see if Matt had Manfred squirreled away somewhere in a barn.

A literal hot mess -- tremendously alcoholic, yet light in acidity. Flawed bottle or flawed wine?

Two hour decant - very "classic" syrah taste and nose. Nice wine not remarkable but totally enjoyable with our veal chop.

8 Great California Syrah, 1 Killer White and 1 Taylor Port in NYC (Walker's, New York, New York): The nose on this was lovely after a few minutes in the glass - it picked up a number of floral notes. There was some heat in the beginning though. I'd like to have this in a few years. I'm very interested in the vineyard and am looking forward to the next Jonata that I have.

Blackberries, raspberries, tobacco and mint. A bit monolithic on the mid palate and finish.
