Lime, Parmesan rind, and pebbley minerality on the nose. Hyper floral on the palette, almost like cosmetics or incense. This tamed after a while and actually became more balanced and actually delicious. I think the initial unbalanced nature of my tasting were nothing to do with the wine, but because this bottle followed the 1998 Chateau L’Evangile, and maybe my palette took some adjusting.

Decanted for two hours. Pale straw in the glass. Aromas of lime zest, a feint touch of petroleum, and under ripe peach and nectarine. Spring water fresh, off dry in style, with a hint of phenolic bitterness.

TWS Group German Tasting (Must & Lees): Peach, mango, ripe red apple and pear. A touch sweaty - is that the hot vintage? Concentrated on the palate - quince and leafy raspberry - it's quite tight and constrained now, needs time to relax.

Germany (Must and Lees, N1): Very pale. Only mildly sweet, less than expected. Young, dynamic and vibrant, and altogther pretty pleasant with ripe pear and the florality of pineapple broom or frangipani. Easily in a drinking window but clearly will keep for ages.

At a tasting with three JJ Prum Spaets. From memory, no detailed notes. Once again the ripeness of the vintage shows in all 3 Spaets (Bernkasteler Badstube, Graacher Himmelreich and Wehlener Sonnnenuhr) and once again the WS had the most ripeness. Right now the BB shows best, not as clear a winner as the Graacher Himmelreich is among the Kabinetts, but edges out the GH in the Spaets. Here the sweetness of the WS comes across less as a problem and more as a “do not touch” for now warning. See that sundial on the side of the hill in all those photos of the WS vineyard? That means time is needed in the cellar. Score for the BB: 91. Relative to expectations: +

Minimal acidity, light body and very drinkable. Aromas of pear and quince. Some citrus notes, lemon curd, on the palate. Syrupy.

4/18/2022 - FiggySmalls Likes this wine:
this is open and showing well. rich (for Prum BB) but retains impressive (light) texture and elegance.
low weight, rs is apparent, and acid is (at best) medium-minus for spatlese.
restrained fruit but not on the savory or green side.
mild yellow apple/pear melds into the feathery texture.
