Unique blend. The Syrah plays a bigger role than its composition suggests. Nice strawberry and red raspberry in the background, blue fruit up front with a little white pepper on the finish. Hint of red licorice too.

Blueberry (particularly in aromas), cracked pepper. Light bodied, fine grained tannins match moderate acidity. Coffee and red cherry finish. Nicely balanced.

PHMG WAG Paso Robles (Paso Lyon): Young but not boisterous, this is a deep dark wine with a really good balance of fruit and savory notes. Outstanding wine with fair QPR. 2023-2019.

Light purple color. The nose exudes crushed blueberries and blackberries, along with spicy pepper, leather, paprika. The palate is deep and ripe but nuanced with smooth tannins and medium acidity. Delicious black cherries and blueberries mix with suave oak, nuanced tones of pepper, paprika, leather and scorched earth. Has a Chateauneuf-esque feel but maintains its own unique aesthetic, too, and I love it. Underneath it all is this stony, mineral-driven, rolled stone feel – which is great. Grenache with 26% Syrah and 7% Graciano.

Three Tastings and a Meal in Paso Robles; 8/11/2022-8/13/2022 (Paso Robles, California): Same red hue as the younger Sticks and Stones. Medium weight. Here the fruit is darker red and complicated by pepper and anise. I much preferred this wine for its much greater complexity and interest. Very good.
