  • Not ideal circumstances for proper tasting. As indicated by the property, this closes down between years 4 and 6 and I fell it was closing down. The beautiful floral and fruit aromas appeared 2 hours after opening and E. and I were on the last glasses. If you drink this now, give it air and time. Should have popped and shouldered sooner. As such, only reached 91 or so, but with more air/time would have expected 92 or so. Still my favourite southern Rhone wine. Will have to get more some day.

  • Brief note as I somehow forgot to comment it the day I opened it and today we are day three.

Classic La Nerthe white, concentration, complexity and balance with good peach/greengage fruit and minerality. The mouthfeel on this is really good, and despite the 14% alcohol, it doesn't seem heavy or alcohol rich at all. A very good white from an area not often considered for the quality of its white wines. Compared to previous bottle, this is starting to close down. As a reminder, at La Nerthe, they told me this wine is generally best from years 1-3 and then 5-8. I can tell we are approaching the 4th year, but fortunately not there yet. Was pristine on days 2 and 3. 92

  • Solid bottle. The Tinel is a significant step above but this cdp blanc is still a very good wine.

  • Excellent white C9dP. Bought this fellow last year at the chateau. A historical place in the area, setup in the 16th century, founder of the Chateauneuf blending rules, front runner solving the Phylloxera issue and bombed by the allies in WO2, cause the germans used the chateau as commando centre. Classic and a bit expensive because the have always sell a lot in the US. This white surprises during the friends Christmas dinner. As an elegant nutty mineral companion for coquilles with black truffle, with some magic.

    -/-
In the nose the wine shows low to medium intensity, needs a bit of time in the glass (it was the last glass in a bottle sampled via coravin). The wine has a thin oak frame, fresh character altogether. The wine shows fresh fruit, green fruit, pear, citrus, a few waxy notes, honeycomb notes, raw almond and hazelnut notes, a few heavier floral notes.
In the palate, the wine shows high intensity, full body, rather aggressive acidity, the oak is more upfront compared to the nose, the nutty element is more roasted. The fruit is more underripe and greener, citrus, quince, lemon peel and pith, it shows some tannins, strong herbal note right in the middle, herbal bitterness in the long finish.
The wine is very fresh and from being ready for me but shows an undeniable Chateauneuf character

  • Second time enjoying this. Great wine.

    Pale gold color.

Oak hints cutting through crisp/sharp pear and tropical (mango) notes.

  • Brief note due to circumstances - Coravin sample from new bottle. Very very pale straw with green reflections. Timid nose at first. On the palate, aromas of flowers, greengage and touch of oak. A good balance, concentration and length. A beauty. 91-92

On day two, orange and nice minerality appear. Pushing this up to 92 for exquisite balance and complexity.

This is already great today, and can be kept till 2028, but based on previous vintages and the (personal) fact I like this when youngest, for me the next two bottles between now and end 2023 ideally.

  • Retail $50. This is a wine that has not yet been released, but I understand that the varietal composition is similar to the 2019 (40% Grenache Blanc, 34% Roussanne, 20% Clairette, 6% Bourboulenc). This is hands down on my very short list of still whites that I would drink at my last supper. I have tasted many iterations of this wine now and while this is quite young, 2020 was a good year for whites at la Nerthe. Only about 6% of CdP is white but it is closer to 20% at la Nerthe (thank you Jesus). A bit tropical and citrus on the nose with some minerality on the nose. The palate is rich, stopping just short of unctuous. There was about one month between the harvest of Roussanne and Bourbelanc and all of the varieties were fermented in oak. Fantastic fruit (tree and citrus), great tartness that really balances out the fruit, with a bit of chalkiness on the finish. Excellent and close to a whoa.
