PnP served blind. Consistent with prior experiences, this maintains a bit of an off-putting lanolin aroma, but after 10 minutes in the glass, it works for and not against it by adding another layer of complexity that no longer overwhelms the experience. Chalky, with lots of spice and bruised orchard fruit flavors, each sip is better than the previous. Marvelously complex, this Chenin is absolutely at peak right now and mind-blowing for under $15. Even though this doesn't have significant age on it, it's still a good example of why we need to have some patience with certain bottles in the cellar, even the less expensive ones. Recommended, 13,0% abv, drink thru 2014.

I'm not going to score it as I think there was some bottle variation here. I really couldn't get past a lanolin character on the nose that kept me from enjoying this as I should have. I've had this bottling at least a half dozen times, and have found it to be reliably consistent and enjoyable. Some peach, chalk and minerals come through on the palate, but the wine seemed a bit off this night. Still, it showed enough acidity and fruit to pair pretty well with a roasted butternut squash with curry and ginger.

This opens with chalky peach, apricot and a hint of mango, before revealing minerals and citric qualities. Nearly full-bodied, this has a soft yet mildly chewy texture, a medium finish and good balance. I'd say this has finally come together, but will clearly age another 5-8 yrs. If I had one complaint, it's that the acid backbone isn't as sturdy as I'd have preferred. Picked up on closeout for just $11, 13% abv.

Blind Night (Kevin): Pale yellow color. Limestone nose that is devoid of any fruit. Detecting TCA in the front of the palate with a sour lime fruit profile all the way through the finish. Bummer. I had no idea what this wine was undoubtedly due to the cork taint. 13% alcohol. Brought by Jeff.

A few sheeps worth of wool draped over chalky limestone and lemon. It's wonderfully dry and crisp with crunchy pink grapefruit acids on the finish. Good enough to pick up a few more to lay down.

Pop and pour. Light golden color, muted nose of apple and pear. On the palate is immediate citrus, tart apple and toward the end sweet peach, hints of honey and bracing minerality. Lively acidity almost overwhelms the fruit, but this will come into balance. Finish is long and complex. This will evolve into a stunner. Can be drunk now, but will do nothing but improve over the next 10-15 years.
