Vietti's Classico which year after year shows the high level that Vietti has. Superfine structure and razor-sharp acidity, the vintage once again shows how everything is in place. The floral notes together with licorice red cherry and blood orange are so elegant. Save and take the next bottle in 2 – 3 years.

Opening one bottle out of my case in it's youth for science. This needed 5 hours of air and food and with those, it was quiet nice. I won't touch the other bottles for ~5 years. Brad - heavypourwine.com
Translucent dark ruby - a wonderfully aromatic nose of rose petals suffused with fresh cherries and crushed red berries, with a twist of herbs and red licorice. A note of mint emerging with time in the glass. Juicy, velvety, fresh and open on the palate, with smooth drying Barolo tannins. Surprisingly open at this stage, but oh so good. With pork chops and black olive and porcini risotto.
What am I missing? I did not enjoy this. Medium bodied, but very light and thin in the mouth. Tart. Tannins are surprisingly light, but mouth drying. No fruit comes through. Tried it after opening, after airing out in the glass for a few hours, and 24+ hours later. No improvement. I have 2 more bottles, which I regret. The only positive thing is that I found this at Costco for USD$50. Maybe something magical will happen 5 years from now? Or am I just finding that this is so far from my style as I learn Barolo? This is just miles away from the 2019 Azienda Virna Di Borgogno Barolo Cannubi I had recently. I'd love to understand why I liked this bottle so much less, so that I can stop making this mistake in the future
We had our first bottle of 2019 recently. Straight from the bottle in a restaurant. Took about 30 minutes in the glass to open up, and then: wow. Everything you expect from Vietti.

Tasted at Wine & Spirits Top 100, NYC. Aged and fermented in some Barriques and large Botti separately then blended. Restrained, on the more elegant side of the spectrum. Fresh aromatics and fruit, moderately long.

Ripe with a lot of juicy red fruit up front framed by fresh floral notes on the nose - there's an exuberant, sappy character to the fruit, but it never feels fruit-bomby as it turns more earthy and savoury on the back end and is lifted by bright acidity. Not as much tannin as I'd expect in a young Nebbiolo. It's absolutely delicious right now, but I'm not sure what to make of it - it seems surprisingly accessible and easy drinking, but doesn't show the tannic structure I'd expect and want if I'm putting a few of these away.

Fresh cherries, bay leaf, liquorice, rose petals and tar. Much the same on palate, but with a meatiness as well. Incredibly tannic. Delicious though - really delicious. This was expressive on pop and pour but, counter-intuitively, retreated into a shell of itself after a few hours decant and never re-emerged. If opening now, careful not to give it too much air and be sure to drink quickly once opened. Shouldn’t be a problem given how delicious it is.

Barolo is gotta be my greatest love in wine. Even if young, even if from a hot year. Very clear and natural cranberry on the nose, Russian mors, berry bushes, roses, tobacco, and ash. Blood orange. Medium- bodied but with super chewy tannins. Cranberry, guelder rose berry, ash, rose, and tar. Bold and young, but with a lot of complexity despite the power. Would be amazing to see this in future but I’m glad to drink it now as well. 10/18

This was closed initially, but began to open with 30 minutes in the glass. Great translucence with bright red fruit and levels of acidity and tannin that show this is a Barolo which, while on the value end of the spectrum, is serious and in need of time. Plenty of fun to try now, but I’ll hold on opening another for 3+ years.

It was more muted than my previous experience in February 2023. Shows pure red fruit notes along with herbal notes redolent of thyme and rosemary. Rich and structured with firm tannins in good harmony with the plentiful, youthful fruit.

Opening a half bottle young for the fun of it! Very clear red with some orange on the edges. Anise and red cherry on the nose. Very tight on the palate intense chalky tannins. Raspberries and Cranberries, Anise, florals. There's also a funky note I can't exactly pin point. A little bit like parmesan in the finish. Very interesting and enjoyable. With age this has great potential

This was a perfectly nice Barolo but I was hoping for the fireworks of 2016 and didn’t get them. It just feels quite a bit rounder and less intense overall than the ‘16 Castiglione.

Quite ripe nose - raspberry/strawberry, some soil and mushroom. Medium/full bodied, very fine tannins, touch of soil along worth the ripe red fruits, good length finish. Decent enough if a touch simple.

Quite austere at the moment. Noticeable black cherries, higher chalky tannins with medium acidity in a full body. This will definitely need time. Great balance between fruit, tannin & acid. Needs age. No score yet.

High acidity and tannins, very drying mouth feel. On the palete Dark cherries, eapeically after aired for 30-40 minutes and the bottle was chilled down to cellar temp from room temp.
There is more complexity here than I’ve noted. More tannic than my taste prefers but a well made wine

Prince - Barolo 2019 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Perfumed and pretty, rose petal, cherry, tar. Medium plus intensity acidity, a little sour cherry fruit, chewy and chalky tannins. Balanced and bold but time for me. Nice though.

[Tasting at Vietti, Castiglione] Medium+ intensity on the nose, what a difference with the 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo! Much richer and more perfumed. Rose petals, red and black cherry, orange peel, herbs, licorice. Medium+ acidity, high tannins, long finish. 91++
30 months in large oak and a small portion in barriques. Made from various smaller vineyards, which are all vinified separately
So bright, so red and so delicious. Rose petals, pomegranate, raspberry and ginger. Great perfume, plenty of flesh and good supporting structure. Not sure I’ve seen a better young Castiglione from Vietti than this.

Dalla Terra Portfolio tasting (Nostrana, Portland OR): The nose is vibrant and perfumed with fresh tones of strawberries, raspberries, sweet red cherries, bits of petrichor, dark red cherries, sweet tobacco, roasted herbs, licorice, and some crushed rocks. There is good depth and class to the nose that is really enticing and overall lovely. The Medium/full bodied feel is refined and elegant with racy, high acidity and extremely youthful, high tannins. This is clearly a young wine, no bones about that. But there is an attractive, red-fruited quality that is extremely enjoyable. This will likely need 8+ years before it really hits its stride, though it does feel like it could have a fairly accessible window for a while.

Mid-crimson in colour with fragrant top notes of thyme and bay leaves over black cherry and red plum. Charming notes of tar and iodine follow. Structured and focused yet accessable and revealing on the palate. Rich, layered and long with a long life ahead.
