Alexander Valley Vineyards' Cabernet is usually an unpretentious, fruit-forward, softly-textured wine that is fun to drink; the 2019 vintage is no exception. A deep ruby blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that was aged for 14 months in an unspecified combination of French and American oak barrels (25% new), it was tasted over a three-hour interval from a bottle that had been popped and poured. Fully opening after the first two hours to offer scents of Bing cherries, red currants, Kalamata olives, baking spices, licorice and marzipan, it is a medium-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (14.0%) wine that delivers a flavor payload mirroring the nose. The oak and sweet tannins are nicely integrated at this point and the mid-palate is solid. Medium-to-long and silky-textured on the finish, this is a seductive, easy-drinking Cab that represents terrific value. Drink now-2036.

Value ($13 marked down at Costco) Sonoma, Calif. 2019 Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. Similar to previous notes. Mid garnet, viscous (14.0 alc.); berries, mint, herbaceous nose; low-mid acids; softening tannins; good fruit; semi-long berry finish. Easy sipping, with apps. 16 UC Davis scale, 90 others.

Served back to back with an Alexander Valley 2018 Silver Oak. This wine has noticeable cherry cola notes. The consensus was “Dr Pepper” - which I happen to like. Nice value Cab at $20.

Hints of dark berry and tobacco on the nose, full bodied, youthful, deep, shows off some cherry, herbal and spice on the palate, supple and balanced, not too fruit forward, this is a great value, swell with bbq steak

for ~$20.00 this definitely delivers the goods... tobacco, earth, bright red cherry, cassis, plum, blackberries, some oak & vanilla... nice acidity on the finish, not sweet or cloying, tannins on point... not complex but it's universally available and pleasant to drink with food or solo... a great choice for an every-day red wine... definitely delivers above it's price... terrific to drink now of if you want to keep down another 3-5 years it'll make it... 91 points

AVV cab is our house red, drinking this now is clearly infanticide, but I wanted to try it young before stocking up. Desperately needed aeration to make it drinkable, after 3hr of decanting and frequent shaking, drinking nicely. This is a bourdeaux blend style wine intended to be laid down and not immediately drunk. 88 now should be 90+ in 3 to 5+ years.

Nothing great here completely acceptable everyday drinking wine but certainly not worth $20.00 plus. Light on the nose, with a nice garnet color lends its way to spice, vanilla and some cherry. Finish unremarkable.

PnP:Hoping to find some easily accessible, lower priced wines for some friends. This is not it. Unlike any cabernet I've had recently and not in a good way. Strange funk to the nose and a bit of VA. Hoping things improve over the next few days.
Fun stuff with notes of saucy cherries and plums. Smooth and plush on the palate with moderate acidity. Sweet plum and cherry fruit, roasted herbs, cocoa, Fun stuff, shows a bit of complexity for the price.

This was actually quite nice on days 2 and 3. On first opening, American oak a bit dominant, sweet-ish and so-so, but over following couple days opened up a bit and became more balanced, resembling a bigger-bodied newer school Rioja. Turned into a solid wine at the table, served with stuffed peppers and cauliflower in cheese sauce. Maybe not as balanced as the 2018 vintage, but could just be the benefit of age. I'll buy a couple more of these to forget about in the "cheapie" part of the cellar for a few years. (And honestly, I think this could age for 5-10 years and maybe improve, but it is no Bordeaux.)

This young cabernet from Alexander Valley is starting to drink very nicely now.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with mild complexity.
Showing red and black fruits with tobacco, chocolates, oak, vanilla and spices.
Spicy and entertaining. Will get better in the next couple of years.
Needs 3 hours to open up properly, so be patient.
Good by itself as a sipping wine and will pair nicely with barbecue meats.
A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
14% alcohol by volume.
91 points.
$17.
