served nice and cold, so the wine showed some flint on the nose without being overly ripe. A little reductive, with floral and tropical stone fruit notes.

much more ripe on the palate than expected, much softer on the palate. Where is the acidity??!! What happened to this wine?! Well... only at the end was there a little bit of acidity I had expected.

This was one of three bottles shipped to Detroit Bruce at O&R, and the first of them to be opened. Based on various experiences over the years, we braced for vulgar, backward, wooly reduction. But to everyone's surprise, it was bright, and pointed, immediately after opening. Visibly pearlescent with dissolved gas; devoid of tactile traces of carbonation on the palate. Deeply involved with macadamia and quince fats, and sharply edged. Masses of granite and chalk shed from an efficiently floral and lime-scented bouillon. Finishing it now at home, a few hours later, it's building its wax. Open, salt-marsh, lemon-scented turf; appetizing bitter streaks across vulnerable lilac sheets. Very drinkable. Certain to reward keeping for 10-30 years. 96+ TIME: last 3 oz. left in a lidded stem 20 hours show an incremental move in the direction of salted hazelnut and almond fats. Bracing, bitter grip stands broadly across fresh action of fruit—ripe drupe pits, quince and bruised, green apricot.

1 ounce pour courtesy of a friend the day after it was opened
bright young yellow color, on the nose melon, quince, grass and just a hint of ointment, on the palate fully dry but with a generous midpalate of honeydew, something akin to passionfruit, sturdy lemongrass and white stones that quite abruptly cuts off going into the intense long tight and tense finish, this is painfully young but even with this one small sample from a friend saving the bottle for a day 3 revisit- its greatness is clear, earth notes and lime, there is nothing modern about this classic beauty and it promises to go in all sorts of exciting directions as it matures.

A baaaaaabyyyyyyy. This NEEDS TIME! Honey, fennel, star fruit, clove, ginger, white florals, Meyer lemon, lanolin, lime blossom, quince. Sooooo much potential here, but this is definitely too young to fully appreciate now. Medium bodied but amazing intensity. Finishes medium. This really needs to flesh out. No hint of botrytized fruit in this Joly cuvée. Needs 5 years to be approachable. 10-20 to mature.
Clearly this is a LONG ways off from reaching its peak drinkability. However, since one of the two bottles I received showed significant signs of seepage upon arrival (and 1jour1vin was unable to replace it as they had sold out), I decided I would open it and see if the wine was ruined rather than wait 5-10 years to be disappointed. Much to my surprise, the wine is more than fine and I am now kicking myself for opening it. That being said, although it is far too young, it is already damn good, albeit rather austere and a bit unforgiving on the palate at this point (it reminded me of a too-young Clos Ste. Hune in that respect), but the nose is already absolutely divine. This will be utterly fabulous down the line!
Organic & biodynamic.

Pretty good for a young bottle. Did not drink on a flower day. Good expression of chenin. Good complexity and texture too.

Expressivo nose of lemon and yellow apple. Really plush on the palate. Fresh but a bit too rich for my taste.
