New Years Eve selection and with a dynamite citrus braised pulled pork with crispy shallots (shameless plug for the chef) a match made heaven. Large-ish but not over the top, lots of classic CdP characteristics that shined with the pork.

The wine is medium ruby with garnet rim. On the nose, initially it has some farmyard notes, but shortly hides to the back after sitting in the glass for 20min. It presents beautiful red roses, bush/mediterranian herbs, pungent spices, red strawberry, 螺蛳粉酸笋. It's developing. On the palate, the wine has medium plus acidity, medium plus tannins with very fine and silky texture, high alcohol, medium plus body. The flavor intensity is medium plus with red strawberry, red date, black tea and herbal notes. The finish is medium plus as well. Classic grenarche blend flavor (80%), well made, fine balance despite 14.5% alcohol. Enjoyable to drink at such young age. The funky notes initially can be off-putting to some people, but it's not over-powering after decanting and I don't mind it at all.

Quite enjoyable young Pegau. Wife and I both commented “we should drink them young.” Classic nose: cherry, dirt, iron/rust that distinctive Pegau funk, borderline roasted/stewed. Very lively on the palate. Bright red fruits, tightly wound, ripe, nice sweetness, drying tannins. Hot finish, the alcohol is noticeable. Dry, fine tannins, tight finish but great fruit lingers. Needs to calm down (why we don’t drink all of them young).

Sweet fruits and a whiff of funk on the nose. Add plums on the palate. Fruit forward now. However, I feel there’s a chance it will provide a defining moment sometime in the not too distant future. Very true to the house style. Ethereal.

Immediately approachable; harmonious dark fruit. Dry and nicely acidic. Has the characteristics of a well balanced smooth fruit forward wine. Main critique might be it’s a bit nondescript. And increasingly the price.

Quite intense nose with a lot of herbs, pepper and black fruit. Rich and full bodied with incredible juicy and seductive sweet fruit. Lots of structure and dryness in the long finish. More a "crowd pleaser", than a Pegau on "the wild side", but its young and still a little one-dimensional. 2019 is much more closed and structured than this, but might be more interesting in the long run. But this is delicious any way.

Popped and poured and drank over 2 hours. I'm giving this a 91-93 based on potential. The wine pours a dark ruby in the glass.
On the nose: cherries, blackberries, dried thyme and lavender with a hint of spice
On the palate: a lot of power and concentration come through, the wine went from black fruits to blue fruits over time. The wine lingers on with a long finish, the tannins are quite prominent. This has quite a lot of potential.

My first impressions of the 2020 Pégau “Cuvée Réservée”. I brought this bottle to Tasting Group and presented it double-blind to the crew, for science! The wine pours a deep ruby with a translucent core. Moderate staining of the tears; high viscosity. On the nose: the wine is moderate intensity; developing. Ripe cherry and bramble fruits with some strawberry, anise, exotic spices, garrigue, and lavender. On the palate, the wine is dry, medium+ tannin and medium+ acid and medium+ alcohol. The tannins are super grippy. The finish is long, herby and there is a streak of black pepper. Whoa…this is a gorgeously expressive wine! Some felt it was 1er cru Burg. Other thought something form Italy: Brunello or CCR. Only one, the only Advanced Somm in the group, called CdP, but he called 2016. Having had many 2016’s recently, I can see where he was coming from. But make no mistake, this will age well despite it’s current approachability. Drink now to enjoy its youth before it potentially (likely) shuts down. Otherwise, this will drink well for 10-15+ years.
True blood here. While of course too young, this has all the tell-tale notes of a great Pegau. Beef blood, iron, a deep, rich Grenache, plenty of local connection, garrigue galore - I need this in my cellar. 95+
Dark garnet in color, the wine opens with flowers, kirsch, herb de Provence, and cherries. Vibrant, spicy and fresh, with loads of kirsch and plums on the palate and in the rich, yet elegant finish. Time in the cellar will help add depth, complexity and softness to this wine, allowing it to flesh and expand. The wine is a blend of 80% Grenache and various other AOC allowed grape varieties. Drink from 2026-2038.

Hundred Acre wine tasting: Barrel sample. To be bottled next week. This is not the definitive assemblage. Very elegant, a "gourmand year" as another taster said. Distinct Kirsch-liquer on the nose. Gritty tannins. Something medicinal on the nose. A bit rough and unpolished as well, but that is more often than not the case with barrel samples.

May The 4th!!!
On this raining Sundayl afternoon in Sydney, Australia and I am enjoying with wonderful wine purchased at the domaine… Pegau Reserve.
The 2020 is a full-bodied with fine, firm tannins, well balanced and the finish… a minute plus.
A CDP wine that doesn’t need to change!

So fun to drink one of these young ones. Really easy to drink now and quite pleasing. Lots of stuffing to age nicely.

Tertiary notes coming through already. The raisin-like fruit has receded quite a bit. Still somewhat aggressive. Medium-length finish.
