So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030: Served blind at my Wednesday Wine Committee hosting. The tiny cork broke - had a plastic top and a T cork. Got it out with the Durand. Decanted for a couple of hours starting at 7 am, before bringing to the lunch. An amazing caramel nose and color on first pour and taste. A bit hot, but that blew off by the tasting. This ended up being served with a cheese plate, which paired perfectly. End of the lunch, so not very detailed notes, but reminded me of an older vintage colheita port. No idea how old this bottle was, but it was delicious.

{cork} The old yellow label bottling, with all the Australian capital cities in a row along the label. So, twenty years in bottle? Anyway, level is good, and cork seems to have been fairly reliable. Golden brown colour. Beautiful nose of figs, honey and caramel. Lovely palate, of caramel carpet, honey, fig, hint of tea. Richly sweet, full-bodied, but with a grand acid spine to hold it all together. Long, rich, decadent finish. Grand stuff. If the level is good on these old bottling, don’t hesitate!

Sweet and jammy. Thick almost liqueur like. Raisins and red/dark berries. Nice glass of wine but I don’t see the high praise other members gave this in previous notes. I prefer port any day.

Penfolds Dinner (The Pawn - Hong Kong): Tawny color, reddish brown (at least w the lighting I had to work w). Raisins galore! Sweet, yummy, sugar candy, liquid Gold in a glass. This persisted nicely, went well w the board cheeses. Great night cap for the evening.

Grand stuff. Deep amber. Caramel nose with lots of mixed nuts, which follows through to the palate, along with some brown sugar and a bit of positive oxidation. Could use a bit more acidity, but that is nit-picking as it does not come across as syrupy or cloying. Good stuff.

Very good, but not outstanding. Too viscous and the fruit and alcohol overpowered somewhat (perhaps compred with the better integrated Tokaji just prior to it!). Good for a christmas lunch and really worked well with the cheese plate.

Christmas lunch (At Home, Hong Kong): Afraid I have to be contrary to everyone else. A decent but not outstanding port - even by Aussie standards. Nothing memorable although an enjoyable finale to the evening.

I don't know why I resist and put 99 rather than 100 in. this tawny is heavenly and a staple for my better parties and to impress the Filistines :-). The price versus the quality, age of the wine, a blend of tawnies up to 80 years old, and the magnificent mouth feel are majestic.
The only reason I resist is that I might know something not everyone does and I'll spill it here. This wine has a grand daddy and inded it is called Great Grandfather's. The tawny blend in that one is between 60-120 years old and this is the one to try. Beware though, that one has a slightly higher price.... about 4 x the 'standard' Grandfather :-)

My oh my, Wow, what a wine!!! I have never had a wine that coats your mouth like this, viscous, not syrupy, dried apricots, orange rind, nutty rancio flavours with a finish that lasted over 90 seconds. This was paired with some cambozola cheese that had been out of the fridge for over 3 hrs before it was served, amazing pairing, the nuttiness of the cheese worked well with the port. My wife who hates any kind of blue cheese, loved it. Great port for camping and sitting around the campfire.

(Mallard, Chateau Fairmont, Whistler BC) Gorgeous nose flows off the glass with Mandarin licqueur, honey, Masala and cake. Light on the palate with a long, long finish based on the same elements. Great balance, persistent. Beautiful sweetness with being over-bearing or sticky. Delicious stuff.

By far the best tawny port I've tasted. Smooth fruit with hints of brown sugar and very little tannin to spoil the experience. The flavor lingered for a long time. Initially tasted by recommendation in a restaurant and after purchasing a bottle the experience was every bit as good the second, third, fourth...time.

If you cannot get this port then you will not know one of the world's greatest tawny's. this one has it all and then some. sweet, honey, caramel amber and beautiful. It beats the australian favorites from seppelt which by the way i love as well. this is one to get and while you are at it get a nice cheeseplate to go with it.

Always as good and probably a better QPR than comparable portuguese tawny...I just wish it was slightly less raisiny.

Excellent - classic Aussie fortified wine with wonderful aged quality and very sweet profile. Multi-dimensional and complete. An outstanding wine.

Always a wonderful finish to a meal either back home from the restaurant or in home dinners. Time to locate the next bottle.
