  • High end Champagne 2012 vs 2013, tasted blind (Bad Ragaz): 7g dosage, medium yellow, Discrete nose of oak spices, ripe apples, cinnamon. Very generous palate, lots of power. Less open than the 2012.

  • April BYO (Bodø, Norway): The wine is lively yellow in the glass. Round and creamy scent, with dairy products such as cream and cold butter. On the palate, the wine is fresh and fruity with red sweet berry fruit and what are perceived to be distinct pinot tones. Some candy and an exit with sweet oranges or clementine.

  • Amazing how consistent this is. Had the 04, 08 and 12 the last 6 or so months and must they, they've all been bangers and punched way above their weight class.

Followed over a few hours. Was better the first hour or so. After that complexity died off and acidity took over. Was best 30 minutes after opening: 96 points. Then kinda got a tad wonky and dropped to 91. Hence a generous 93.

Based on how this bottle was so so so so so much less inspiring over time I'm wondering what's going on. The other vintages didn't do this and got better over time. Damn. This sucks. Will see what happens down the road but I won't rebuy.

Regardless, a great champagne. Feels to be in a very open drinking window. Will it get better? Not sure, perhaps but no need to sit on these and deny yourself the pleasure. Drink as often as possible and with Peter (me!).

These and Egly have become my favorite champagne behind Argonne and Henri G in general.

  • Pale, fine persistent bead. Herbs and yellow fruit aromas. Lean, light, racy, and explosive. Lemony fruit, unbelievable acidity and stone without seeming austere in the least. An absolute joy to drink this now with the realization that it is probably just beginning a decades long journey. Fantastic bottle.

  • Ski trip - Four wino familes; 2/16/2024-2/19/2024 (Wisp Resort): Elegant yet energetic nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, lemon curd, caramel apple, brioche, light caramel, honeysuckle, honey and limestone. Beautifully integrated palate, finely layered delicious yellow fruit, very fine medium generous mousse, pure, precise and fresh, bright acidity, fine mineral, and a long sweet yellow fruit driven finish. This is drinking incredibly well.

  • This thing slays. The Churchill bested a 2015 Cristal by a decent margin. Previous notes apply.

  • Korean BBQ dinner at home (Mi Casa): This is quite elegant and delicious. Generous perfectly ripe yellow fruit, lemon curd, red apple, white flowers, brioche, saline and fine mineral. Already showing beautifully integrated palate, finely layered pure yellow and white fruit, perfect balance, freshness, and precision, very fine generous mousse, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long pure delicious yellow and white fruit driven finish. This seems more like the 08 than the actual 08 Churchill. A classic Tete de Cuvee.

  • Opened at the Victuals in HK. Slow-oxed for a while before being served.

No extensive notes, but this was drinking really well - fresh, good acidity but also already quite buttery and toasty. Some power coming from the Pinot in this blend, and I can imagine this creeping up a point over time.

Always a pleasure to drink this cuvee, and thanks to M for sharing!

  • Tast Vinicia. Empezó muy reducido. Un decantado le abría ido bien. Pero es un grande, también en el precio.

  • I love this. This might be my new favorite champagne. I am having this with some Gruyère before dinner for my mom’s birthday dinner. Really pretty red apple, floral, and lemon peel on the nose. It has such a lightness/freshness that does not exhaust your palate. Now comes the hard part in keeping my hands off my remaining bottle

  • Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Wimps - Racine (La Trompette): Real oomph on the nose. Elevated, with a certain chalkiness. This is only at the start of its journey but really nice just now.

  • Drinks well but uninteresting as it’s current condition.

  • 95% Pinot noir
Smells like Pinot noir rose with strawberry cake.
Fine and retained bubble and flavor profile. Very balanced and approachable. A bit fall leave flavor at the finish. Subtle, like fall.

  • Very intense wine - much too young. There is a real core here, citrus, butter, minerals; much too young, great wine in the making.

  • Prickly pear and ginger notes make for a spicy entry, with red apple skin, bosc pear, anise, grilled lemon rind, wet limestone, sweet & sour margarita mix, unripe green and yellow apple flesh, and bristly mineral notes all make for a vivaciously charming Champagne. The hand is hovering over the nuke button here when it comes to complexity; it simply can’t wait to detonate. The tension is toothsome and joyously invigorating, as it shakes, wiggles, and shivers like a Husky puppy holding its own leash, ready to just freak out as soon as the front door opens and it’s time to go for that 7-mile run. With some years under its belt, this machine is going to be all glory and go. Though it has a primary and serious sense about it (cue Churchill analogies), it is also so electric and engaging. It’ll be difficult to keep hands off, but it will be worth it come Blade Runner 2049.

95+ (96+?) points. This is seriously one of those wines I'd love to try in 30 years whilst lounging on the back deck of my floating house on Ceti Alpha VI.

  • Took a while to open up. At one stage smelt slightly oxidised I wonder if this was a bad bottle? Quite okay and bready but this bottle was a far follower of my go tos… Dom or Cristal.

  • 2019 Louis Michel etc. (Chicago, IL): One of the better bottles of Winston Churchill that I can remember. Far more taut and precise (perhaps surprisingly so), giving this a really nice counterbalance to a more traditionally autolytic/creamy champagne. In some sense this is very similar to a recent 2013 Cristal with the acidity giving shape and cut to a traditionally more baroque wine.

  • Honey Graham cracker nose is off the charts. super rich, way more broad and voluptuous than I expected. Tart green apple and lemon on the palate speak more to the precision of 2013, but I keep coming back to the honey Graham cereal. Long and rich as all get out. 7g/L. 95% PN to my great surprise.

  • A fresh, rich and powerful nose of baker's yeast, aniseed, red fruits and preserved citrus. The palate is intense and layered. There excellent detail and super-chalky structure, The finish powers on, carried by a wonderful line of sharp acidity.

  • Restrained, crisp, with just enough bready aromas. Top of the big houses for me.

  • Well that is delicious. And doesn't suck to boot.

  • bright light lemon color, on the nose incredibly tight to start with hints of orchard fruits and white flowers, on the palate voluminous though with a certain current restraint, crisp green apples on the front, citrus acids dominating on the middle and a persistent crush raspberry note on the fine long linear finish, 4 hours later- little changed, showing more apple notes on the nose and the same fruit progression across the palate- but even tighter than at opening, the fruit is more evident but so also is that fiery acid that is the hallmark of the 2013 vintage, floral notes also more evident with time- but no signs yet of the great mousse that will come with age, pristinely defined and wonderfully edgy, as with Dom Perignon- a fine pair of vintages here, 2012 and 2013, with the latter to be locked away for a good decade while enjoying the former on its long broad aging curve, another very fine 2013- very much the sort of performance I had expected of the 2008.

*(***)+, 2033++ as with 2013 Dom probably 5 stars but not quite as self-evident as the stylistically similar 1996 and 2008 at this stage, so time will tell.

  • My first crack at this lovely beast. Served blind to me, I get to keep the bottle with the correct guess. I went with 2012 Comtes, but it was a fail. Noble reduction like DP, but lacking a little flint. Some lemon curd, green apple richness, not much red fruit. I don’t feel bad about the guess, and finished the bottle anyway. It’s a very very good SWC

  • Well heck, this is an absolutely great young Champagne. The Pinot Noir is evident, but the entire execution is both inviting and electric with red and yellow fruit flavors. The front end dominates with a suave-meets-muscular entry of red apple flesh and skin, yellow apple, bruised yellow pear, grilled lemon, bark, and rock, but as the flavors expand, they present as pulsating yellow and green citrus and ginger notes. Finishes a little serious and sophisticated, with chamomile and anise flavors popping up, but also with the perfect balance of well-executed liveliness to excite the delivery throughout consumption. A Champagne that shows aptly regal in its performance without being uptight. Churchill with a "V" for Victory indeed with this 2013.

A lot going on here. This is one that is a beauty now (and one that requires some contemplation while sipping to really soak in what it has to offer), but it'll be a tremendous ager for sure. I may even favor this slightly over the more autolytic 2008.

    95+ (pushing 96?) points for the 2013.

  • At first a little muted on the nose, but after a while showing white/yellow fruit, chalky minerality, some floral as well as yeasty notes. On the palate again a little restrained, but already showing wonderful detail. Layered, bright, intense, chalky. Really elegant, vibrant and super long. Youthful, but approachable. 94-95+

  • Best champagne I’ve had, lots of green apples and some bread dough. So good

  • Pale lemon colour. Small and lively bubbles. Medium and developing nose with yellow apples, brioche, butter, biscuit and wet stone. Medium (+) nose with yellow apples, brioche, butter, biscuit, mushrooms and wet stone. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. An outstanding Vintage Champagne that needs more time. Drink in ten to thirty years. Goes well as an aperitif, with meditation or cured meat.

  • After a series Burgs and lots of good nibbles during a Singapore farewell gathering at 67PM, we opened this to close the table. Showed beautifully but very young still. There is lovely spiciness here, woody notes intermixed with fresh lemon peel. The racy 2013 shows as well, making this a fresher, lighter rendition of this famous Cuvee. I would definitely cellar this for another 5 years or so. Drink after 2028. 94-95+

  • Drank alongside with the Vintage Brut and the Brut Réserve from the same producer. This was by far my favorite, although we all agreed this can age more before reaching its prime. Less sugar and more balanced than the other two cuvées. Also uses grand cru grapes vs. premier cru or other for the other ones.

  • BTG at the bar at 67PM

Lovely nose of pastries, papaya, orange zest, a hint of cream and wet stone
Palate diverts from the nose a bit as some ripe apples emerge, lime juice, Granny Smith skin, a nice dense roundness to the mid-palate then a pretty tart and bitter acidity kicks in early in the finish. At first the finish put me off a bit but it grows on me with time almost becoming a tonic water quinine balance to the lime

I suppose this counts as infanticide so wouldn’t rate this now but seems like some great components that will knit together with time

  • Red apples, bread, nougat and minerals. Feels quite complex but hard to pinpoint. Really feels that this will develop with aging.

  • Lunch at The Clove Club, London.
Perfekt balans, bra syra, fin frukt, lång finish.
