Mocha, toast, red plum, dark cherry, some interesting sugar cane notes. Medium plus flavour intensity, medium plus finish. Modern style, fine tannins, but not much else to evolve along 4 hrs.

Not much aromatics at all, slight vanilla and some weak rose perfume together with tar but on a low scale for everything except maybe solvent. Taste is ok with medium acidity and medium- tannins (nebbiolowise), cheeries and some coocked red berries. But there is a hole in the middle. Being so wowed by the 2016 this comes out as a bit of a disappointment. Sometimes expectations destroys a wine. Gi e it 3 hours in decanter, 88 points is with a lot of air.

Not up to my standards, the nose has a little nebb character, though mostly tar and herbs. The palate enters with a little sweet fruit but dies off suddenly. A victim of the vintage I fear.

Barolo 2018 (Bottega Coco): A little pot pourri, slight alcohol prickle, slightly dilute red cherry, sweet spice, very slight volatile acidity (?). Medium plus intensity acidity, drying, tight, grippy drying tannins prove chewy, sour cherry fruit, fresh, kind of nice.

Paolo Scavino (Ivy Bottle Shop, Sydney): tiny of touch of wood glue, slight cream, sweet spice, a little dried orange peel, quite lifted notes, cherry fruit, a little menthol note. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, medium plus intensity crunchy, slight chalky tannins persists long, cherry, dried orange, aa touch of non-inclusive alcohol warmth helps the finish carry long, smidge of wood glue here as well. Complex, interesting. Okay.

Red berries, fine grippy tannins, earthy, easy drinking. Very nice drinking barolo. Not a wow and not a sparkling vibrancy, but a very solid, easy drinking red. Would be great with some nice cheeses or pasta.

Henri Bloem-Bloemendaal-autumn tasting: Difficult to judge, still closed; underneath the first glimps of wood, some vanilla and red fruit, I noticed a powerful core: the promise for further development.

Their classic style, blend of 8 vineyards in 2018 from different soil types. 3 limestone soils, 3 sandstone soils and 2 that are a mixture of limestone and sandstone.
Fresh, ripe red fruit on the nose. Balanced and silky, approachable tannin structure. Of course they're present, but not in your face as many young Barolo's can be.
(This was our first of the 2018s of the trip, eventually we'd come to see that this is very characteristic of the vintage. They're very approachable in their young stage right now.)

Good purity here, nice fruit expression; silky on the palate, really nice spread of fruit. Fresh, with good balance and transparency.

Bu en succ.
Simple et juteux.
Prunes et fleurs avec de la réglisse.
Pas le plus long mais assez approchable pour son jeune âge.
Bien.
