Off-Track Leroy BYO (Manhatta): 2738, American label original case. Lightly dirty with pretty red fruit and cherry spice revealing after air. Super solid as always. 93

2743, American label original case. Really perfumed and lacy right from the pop, cherry, spice, red-fruited, pure, sweet, powerful. Some Pommard tannin and rusticity came in after air. Very very enjoyable and perhaps more expressive than the VR BM on the side. 93

2746, American label original case. Slightly herbal among the Leroy perfume. Palate is cooler, minty, less rich than the 02 on the side but very good for this vintage. 92-93

Not the best Leroy, but it stood out tonight. Classic Leroy energy and spice on the nose and palate. Very dry red fruit and roses, and a bit angular. Medium finish.

Brick/ruby to a slightly orange rim. I know not everyone agrees, but I simply love the nose on Leroy's reds. Here we have sweet, slightly herbal fruit mixed with a wonderful, exotic spice element. Some iron comes in at the end. Just lovely. Medium flavors are best on the sweetish and full attack. Things round out nicely in the middle but then hit a wall as a wave of green harshness comes to fore on the finish. Incredibly bitter here....food is a must. Strange wine as the nose and initial impression is wonderful. Overall, a disappointment. (84)

Suspect a gray market import via London based on label. Cork pushed up slightly and completely discolored... cooked somewhere along the supply chain. At least it was a gift!

Tasting Group Dinner (Jeff's House): Nose of freshly chopped mushrooms, smoke, and ripe red cherries. Ripe cola/cinnamon. With air, this grew funkier and less pleasant, developing VA/Band-Aid on the nose. I liked the 1997 Leroy NSG much better.

Classic Leroy floral showed up after 30 minutes of nothing. Fruit was rather dense, classically Pommard, and also too a while to coax out. Quite tannic today and not perfectly balanced. I'm not sur eif the volume of fruit will work out in the end with all this structure. I'd hold this another 5+ years but cross my fingers.

Expressive sweet red fruit on the nose. Showing the rustic side after 2 hours of decant, as the dryness of tannin came through
