  • Drank during Cornerstone Provenance Night Event with more than 30 wines tasting. Did not have enough time to take down notes and didn’t have proper wine glasses. In general, the wines are still drinking fine and have characteristics of old vintage wine; forest floor, some barnyard, spices, tea, hawthorn, toast. I only managed to use my own personal score to rate the wine.

  • Five bottles of truly awful wine. Corks were in good shape. What a disappointment from this producer and year. Avoid.

  • Alex's 40th Birthday (Alex and Fiona's in AMK): Yummy, and drinking so well now. It had a beautiful, classic Margaux nose, with loamy earth and tea leaves, a waft of tobacco smoke, and then sweet aromas of cassis and plums, with something meaty and umami that reminded me of bak chang (glutinous rice meat dumplings) running behind. Lovely stuff. The palate was very drinkable indeed, with soft acidity and round tannins caressing a velvet mouthful of smoky tobacco, cassis and plums, all fresh and transparent, yet very soft and round. The finish was a little on the shorter side, ending with a nice bit of earth and sous bois. That aside, this was delicious.

  • Frankly disappointing...
Top neck fill, cork in good condition.
Clearly Cantenac-Brown was under-performing during this era, but producing a wine with so little class in 1982 is regrettable.
It's quite lean, lacks ripeness and texture. Subdued aromas with little interest.
    Avoid

  • Bought at auction recently. Medium garnet colour, some fine sediment. Red and dark fruit, black currant, plum, cherry, cedar, sous-bois, tobacco leaf, spices, cinnamon, and light balsamic notes, with good acidity, mostly resolved tannin and very good length. Medium-bodied. A little unclean and dirty. Good complexity, but doesn’t possess the harmony and soft texture one would expect from an 82.

  • Hard to believe our 2 bottles were purchased in 1985 but don't remember from where. Finally getting around to open bottle number 1! Only been sitting there for 33 years. What a wonderful surprise. medium red color with a brick edge, dark fruit and leather nose, a beautiful full body with plenty of mixed cherry and current fruit, a touch of refreshing acidity with integrated tannins. The leathery fruit finish was of medium length and was very satisfying. BTW the price tag left on the bottle was $18.95. The lamb chops were good too.

  • It was long ago since someone wrote a revive on this wine. I was amazed, I opened three bottles between the 24th of December and the 31th. The wine is perfect mature, I mean perfect! The nose is big but elegant with; tobacco, thym, new leather saddle, chocolate, lots of red and dark fruit, still vibrant with lovely acidity and matured tannins. In my opinion this is one of the best Bordeaux 1982 you can buy without get ruined. This wine will easily last for more then ten more years in cellar. All three bottles had the same stringent and high quality and no notable bottle variation.

  • Bordeaux Dinner at Dino: 82 Canon to 05 SHL Blanc and a lot inbetween (Dino's Washington, DC): he waiterss approached the bottle with some trepidation as the cork appeared to be rather modly/flimsy. Never fear, I though, I’ll handle this. Well the ah-so managed to simply move the cork down the neck and when I tried to get the wine key into the cork so I could massage it out, it simply plopped in (well played...) We ran the wine through a coffee filter and decanted. The wine probably could have benefited from an Audouze as it appeared very fragile upon opening, as if it were in a mausoleum and were suddenly hit by a wave of air, but it settled down in glass. Sous bois, milky notes and some light truffly brett. The fruit was reticent but still there. Lacks the sheer mouthfeel of profound Margaux but it had some characteristic signs of the appellation. A nice wine but probably over the hill.

  • This bottle was a gift to my father-in-law who doesn't drink wine, 20 years ago. 3 years ago I was snooping around his dinning room and found 12 bottles of wine in a rack ranging from Chateau Margaux to Lafite Rothchild to this Cantenac. We've opened them and this was the last soldier, most end up very expensive salad dressing. You'd think 20 years in the New Jersery climate would have to cork it... but it didn't. The wine was definitely wounded but we drank it and it wasn't all that bad. I'd put at 80-82 which is amazing for the abuse.

  • Cork just went inside the bottle and I had to double decant it. The wine nevertheless, despite soaked thru cork was singing songs. Fully resolved tannins, eucalyptus on the nose and leather shop. Finish was somewhat subdued though. All and all I am glad to have more of this one. I'd buy it again.

  • Decanted one hour. Lots of fruit and earth on the nose. The fruit is still quite vibrant, with strong tobacco notes, as well as leather, pencil and a bit of chocolate. Impressive velvety mouth feel, and a long finish. Tannins still going strong. A real showstopper.

  • Absolutely unbelievable! I mean spectacular. Tobacco, lead pencil and fruit on the nose with a combination of earth and fruit through the mid palate and even a bit of tannin on the finish. Had on a night where we crossed regions of the world, drinking 1996 Burgundy, 2001 Barolo, and 1998 vintage champagne and this was far and away the highlight of the evening. If you can get your hands on this bottle, get it.

  • One of the best bottles I've ever had. I've tasted wine this good, but never my out of my own bottle. Everything was aligned. Terrific nose of fruit and flowers right from the get-go. Just enough fruit to make it fresh, with the right amount of earthy funk to make it complex. After a half hour in the glass developed the texture of silk. This wine is at its peak and won't get any better, but if you've got the right bottle, it can hold up at least another 3-5 years.

  • Older Cabs, etc in NYC (NYC): Truffle, earth, thin, lean. Not much fruit. Good food wine, I guess.

  • ORANGE ON THE RIM. LICORICE, EARTHINESS, AND BERRY FRUIT IN THE NOSE. LINGERING FRUIT IN THE FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH.
