very nice again, four square with medium dark fruit, and though dark not heavy... decent acidity, tannin all resolved... just a very nice classic red burg but didn't peak our interest given it was Chambertin (of which I have few)

some deep red fruits came out over the 3 hour decant / 2 hour drink period, exotic flavors alongside with swirling wood and a tiny bit of barnyard (barely noticeable at this stage)... wonder if this will bet better with age... probably

Bt breathed an hour, bright garnet, nowe of red fruits, hint of creamy vanilla and spice. Tannin slightly bitter on palate, midly concentrated fruits and acidity, earth and hawthorn. Finishing is lingering and luring for another sip.

Med ruby in color, the wine offers sweet creamy ref fruit nose, almost jam like with some hint of spice. On palate however, it is more acidic as were quite a lot of 06 burg I tried. Quite mineral from mid palate, which is almost bitter going with the medium tannin. Good concentration and a long lasting aroma of hawthorn. Shall try other vintages as this is the kind of burg I adore.

Popped and poured. Drinking beautifully right now. First impression was creamy red fruit with restraint and class. Darker fruit flavors and more complex as it opened in the glass. Gorgeous wine.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Ripe black fruit comes across as almost jammy to start. Good background structure is almost teasing us with how it will rein in the opulence. But the structure is there, and I think just needs more time, which is no surprise since it is Chambertin.

The Verticals Tasting at La Paulée 2016 (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Light ruby with brown tinge. Aromatics of ripe, roasted red fruit. Slighter lighter weight than the 2011. Sweet fruit, good acidity, gripping tannins. This seems disjointed and grainy compared to that wine.

Tasting at Maison Camille Giroud...Barrel and Library (Beaune): Tasted at the maison. Popped and poured. Big black fruit aromas, that came across as slightly one-dimensional to start. Revisited an hour later, and more nuance emerged with layers of flavor. Still too young, this was much like another bottle opened in Chicago late 2013 that was also just teasing us with its potential. Better in at least a few more years.

2006 Burgundy Dinner (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Open 4 hours before serving, of which the first 90 minutes were in decanter. When returned to the bottle there were very fresh and vibrant red and black cherry aromas and some meaty spice. When poured a few hours later, this was slightly more backward but still fruit centric and rich. Palate even further subdued with lots of superbly elegant tannins. This is a serious wine that will take another decade+ to be easy to enjoy, but there is clearly lots of good raw material and potential here. Not as pleasurable as I recall from when tasted in 2010.

La Paulee de San Francisco - The Verticals (RN74 - San Francisco CA): Vertical tasting, brief note. Black fruit with great spice and a real sauvage character. Prototypical Gevrey-chambertin, even if its forward accessibility isn't normal for young Chambertin. Lots of concentration and density along with structure (mostly in background today) make me confident this will be very cellar worthy.

Needed air, but even after an hour remained tannic with thin fruit and a short finish.
This bottle wasn’t good., flat

Birthday Celebration (State Street Manor & Racquet Club - Chicago IL): Opened and decanted a few hours before tasting. Clearly ripe, starting to mature and soften. I would have expected more nuance from Chambertin at this stage, but still very tasty.

A nice wine with nice balance, good fruit, structure but lacking in the wow factor. Paid entirely too much for this which never helps the cause.

Even denser and more intense than the Charmes, a bit austere, but although very serious, this was not unapproachable
